US General: Half of All Afghan District Centers Under Taliban Control

I also don't think Trump would have left advanced weaponry over there. I'm reading there is 200 aircraft that is now in the hands of the Taliban
yep... talking heads have said all our technology will be in the hands of China and Russia now... the planes are too advanced for the Taliban, but will give them more cash when they sell them.

Plus we did not bomb the runways we built on the bases making things easier for Russia or china to come in.

China will be in there very soon. For one thing, they want the lithium.

I just watched the Pentagon press conference. It's pretty obvious that the military spokespeople are quite frustrated and having a tough time keeping from saying what they really feel.

I'm not putting down the military, I suspect they are just following orders.

Just saw on Fox News that American medical personnel delivered a baby girl from a women on one of the evacuation flights.

This Marine seems to agree with you. And he agrees with me that we should have given up on them in 2002/2003 as soon as it was obvious that they would not fight for their country.

************

What we are seeing in Afghanistan right now shouldn’t shock you. It only seems that way because our institutions are steeped in systematic dishonesty. It doesn’t require a dissertation to explain what you’re seeing. Just two sentences.

One: For 20 years, politicians, elites and D.C. military leaders lied to us about Afghanistan.
Two: What happened last week was inevitable, and anyone saying differently is still lying to you.

I know because I was there. Twice. On special operations task forces. I learned Pashto as a U.S. Marine captain and spoke to everyone I could there: everyday people, elites, allies and yes, even the Taliban.

The truth is that the Afghan National Security Forces was a jobs program for Afghans, propped up by U.S. taxpayer dollars — a military jobs program populated by nonmilitary people or “paper” forces (that didn’t really exist) and a bevy of elites grabbing what they could when they could. You probably didn’t know that. That’s the point.

And it wasn’t just in Afghanistan. They also lied about Iraq.

I led a team of Marines training Iraqi security forces to defend their country. When I arrived I received a “stoplight” chart on their supposed capabilities in dozens of missions and responsibilities. Green meant they were good. Yellow was needed improvement; red said they couldn’t do it at all.

I was delighted to see how far along they were on paper — until I actually began working with them. I attempted to adjust the charts to reflect reality and was quickly shut down. The ratings could not go down. That was the deal. It was the kind of lie that kept the war going.

So when people ask me if we made the right call getting out of Afghanistan in 2021, I answer truthfully: Absolutely not. The right call was getting out in 2002. 2003. Every year we didn’t get out was another year the Taliban used to refine their skills and tactics against us — the best fighting force in the world. After two decades, $2 trillion and nearly 2,500 American lives lost, 2021 was way too late to make the right call.

Note about the Marine who wrote that: Cole County native Lucas Kunce is a Marine veteran and antitrust advocate. He is a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate.

Maybe the military will be pissed enough to take back our country.

I'll not arm chair quarterback this topic as I have no idea what would have happened if "X" would have happened first. I do know this though, if we wanted to stop them we could. Say or think what you want but we could have our way with them at any moment should we desire. The fact that we're not is very telling.

To be clear, I'm not saying the country would have taken any longer to collapse. All I'm saying is that I think Trump would have gotten our people and allies out first.
All Americans who weren't part of the military or with a company supporting the military were required to report to the US embassy upon their arrival. Pretty much all of them were on humanitarian missions and were scattered all over the country. Most of the country is primitive: no electricity, no cellphone towers, no Internet. A lot of these people left without telling the embassy, so the numbers look larger than they really are. The other problem is reaching those who are there. Many of them started helping a specific village and then went on to another, then another.

And all the equipment that was left there? Latest count is 85 billion worth, including 200 aircraft. Videos are coming out showing the Taliban wearing American uniforms and carrying American equipment. I suspect some of our advanced weaponry will end up in the hands of the Chinese.

Biden won’t extend Aug. 31 deadline as Taliban reiterates demand for U.S. forces to leave

President Biden has decided not to extend an Aug. 31 deadline to remove all American troops from Afghanistan, a U.S. official tells Fox News.
The development comes shortly after a Taliban spokesperson – following a meeting between leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and CIA Director William Burns in Kabul -- said there will be “no extensions” to the Biden administration’s Aug. 31 date.
Defense Dept. Press Secretary John Kirby said Tuesday that the White House is still “aiming toward the end of the month” for a complete withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.
The Pentagon also said the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan will go to “zero” at the Aug. 31 deadline.

We're going to leave Americans and allies there to be slaughtered. This president doesn't have the balls to stand up to the Taliban.

A lot of those weapons and vehicles were intended for the Afghanistan National Army. Whatever weapons, vehicles, and aircraft that were left behind should have been blown up. They could have taken all the bolts out of the M-4s and buried them. The weapons would have been useless. Even if the Taliban did find the buried bolts, they wouldn't be any good.

Looking like the GOP in congress are fighting back. Quite a few of them are former military, some served in Afghanistan, and they are pissed off! They just did a press conference and said if Biden won't clean this mess up, they will. Not exactly sure how they will do that, but I appreciate the intent.
