US General: Half of All Afghan District Centers Under Taliban Control

New estimates are that we left 80 billion in equipment there, including 200 aircraft. All in the hands of the Taliban now. Reports are that ISIS is moving in rapidly, so how much of this weaponry will fall into their hands?

Reports also indicate that Biden was, in fact, warned by the generals that this would happen, but he chose to do it anyway.

FOX played phone calls from American citizens trapped over there, begging the president to help them get out. The people at the other end of the phones said people were being shot and killed left and right, and they feared they would also be killed.

A lot of people are dogging the military, but as of now I think Biden has their hands tied.

IMO, Biden has to be impeached and removed over this. Yeah, I know that means President Kamala, but we'll deal with her later.

People also need to know that the Democrats fully knew that Biden was not mentally fit to serve, many of them said so during the primaries in 2019. They swept it under the run just to defeat Trump. So the Democrat Party is also responsible for this blood bath.

They should have blown it all up.
The planes and weaponry is supposedly some of the most advanced. I have heard that China and Russia will probably purchase it from the Taliban, giving the Taliban more cash, and Russia and China all the secrets to our technology leaving the USA vulnerable.

The runways are 6 feet thick of concrete and some of the best, built by the USA... those should have been destroyed so Russia and China when they come in, have to rebuild- but no... we did not destroy them, or all the other infrastructure which would have at least made it take longer for Russia or China to come in and make the world even more unstable.

Thanks Biden.

I don't know the logistics here and I'm totally spitballing... however, why not take back our Air Force base in Afghanistan ?
We have to have Navy Seals, US Marines and US Special Forces who are pissed-off and ready to go.

First hit the Taliban with drone strikes and then aerial bombing and then (yes), more boots on the ground.
Get the Americans out, then get the friendly Afghans out, then destroy everything at the airbase, followed by dropping a JDAM (or three) onto the base after everyone has left. Turn it into glass.

Biden had this date of August 31st for the complete withdrawal.
Hey Taliban Joe: Move the date, moron.

I heard a podcast of the same question. The answer was that 70 days ago that would have been an option, but now we have no intel and no control of anything over there. The odds of a successful mission and finding the people we want to pull out without it becoming a hostage situation are very low.

We are at the mercy, quite literally, of the Taliban. We don't even control the airport, the Taliban are controlling the exterior; beating people as the arrive and allowing who they want. Many Americans know it is too dangerous to even try to get to the airport.

There was a question of whether the USA was paying the Taliban to LET US take out the people we have been able to get out on planes over the last week.

The Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan continues following the collapse of the Afghan government in August.

Here is the latest: - According to a NATO diplomat, at least 20 people have died in the past seven days in and around Kabul's airport during evacuation processes

-CNN reports that the US military is establishing “alternative routes” to Kabul airport in coordination with the Taliban because “there is a strong possibility” the Islamic State group is trying to carry out an attack

- Taliban co-founder Mullah Baradar arrived in Kabul for talks with other leaders as they hammer out a new Afghan government under the group, Reuters says

- The US Embassy issued a new security warning on Saturday telling Americans in Afghanistan not to travel to the Kabul airport without individual instruction from a US government representative, the AP reports Follow along here for updates from global media and reporters on the ground.

We listened to his speech while traveling. The man is delusional!

He spent most of his speech trying to convince everyone that he made the right decision and all is going to plan.

Ummm, Joe...if things are going to plan, you don't pull out 2500 troops, then almost immediately have to send 7000 back in to try and fix the mess.

We gotta get this guy out of office!

The president of Afghanistan and other government officials fled because they knew they would be killed by the Taliban because their military was comprised mostly by men who were too afraid to fight.

I know this is true because it was reported as such. But it still amazes me that men would be so afraid to fight for their country.

American forces would not run like this. But there again, we're Americans. Not sure about the current administration...

What's happening now would have happened if Trump were president today. Remember, Trump set the timeframe for the withdrawal of the troops.

Don't think so. Trump told the Taliban that if they so much as stepped one foot out of line, he would rain down the power of the US military on them like they had never seen. And from what I read, he did spank them a couple of times.

The Taliban were afraid of Trump, they are not afraid of Biden. And I think Trump would have gotten our people out before he cut and ran, unlike Biden.

This has to be very frustrating to the military. I suspect Biden has their hands tied.

Having said...I think we should have kept a presence there. A mere 2500 troops was keeping order there and preventing terrorists from having safe haven there.

It would have happened the same way. We ran every possible scenario we could before I retired and we came up with the same problems they are facing in Kabul right now.

You could have ten thousand troops right now in Kabul, but when you start withdrawing them that number decreases while the demand for Afghanis wanting out of the country remains high. You will have the exact same problems.

I was there twice. I know what the Taliban is like and I know what the average Afghani is like. We were never going to defeat the Taliban unless the people stood up for themselves. They were reliant on us to do all the fighting for them.

This Marine seems to agree with you. And he agrees with me that we should have given up on them in 2002/2003 as soon as it was obvious that they would not fight for their country.

************

What we are seeing in Afghanistan right now shouldn’t shock you. It only seems that way because our institutions are steeped in systematic dishonesty. It doesn’t require a dissertation to explain what you’re seeing. Just two sentences.

One: For 20 years, politicians, elites and D.C. military leaders lied to us about Afghanistan.
Two: What happened last week was inevitable, and anyone saying differently is still lying to you.

I know because I was there. Twice. On special operations task forces. I learned Pashto as a U.S. Marine captain and spoke to everyone I could there: everyday people, elites, allies and yes, even the Taliban.

The truth is that the Afghan National Security Forces was a jobs program for Afghans, propped up by U.S. taxpayer dollars — a military jobs program populated by nonmilitary people or “paper” forces (that didn’t really exist) and a bevy of elites grabbing what they could when they could. You probably didn’t know that. That’s the point.

And it wasn’t just in Afghanistan. They also lied about Iraq.

I led a team of Marines training Iraqi security forces to defend their country. When I arrived I received a “stoplight” chart on their supposed capabilities in dozens of missions and responsibilities. Green meant they were good. Yellow was needed improvement; red said they couldn’t do it at all.

I was delighted to see how far along they were on paper — until I actually began working with them. I attempted to adjust the charts to reflect reality and was quickly shut down. The ratings could not go down. That was the deal. It was the kind of lie that kept the war going.

So when people ask me if we made the right call getting out of Afghanistan in 2021, I answer truthfully: Absolutely not. The right call was getting out in 2002. 2003. Every year we didn’t get out was another year the Taliban used to refine their skills and tactics against us — the best fighting force in the world. After two decades, $2 trillion and nearly 2,500 American lives lost, 2021 was way too late to make the right call.

To be clear, I'm not saying the country would have taken any longer to collapse. All I'm saying is that I think Trump would have gotten our people and allies out first.

I think he would have gotten the people out first too, and let the Taliban know he would destroy them if they stepped out of line...and he would have.

I still don't know why so may Americans did not get out last year? In a way I think how stupid do you need to be to remain in such a shit hole country if you can go to the USA?

The real question would be what would have been the plan for all the planes and military equipment the Afghan army was supplied, do you take it away as you leave? Or as you see the them running away do you bomb everything to smithereens?

I also don't think Trump would have left advanced weaponry over there. I'm reading there is 200 aircraft that is now in the hands of the Taliban

I would have put remotely activated long term targeting beacons on every piece of equipment turned over to the Afghan army. After we leave, activate the beacons and bomb the crap out of them.
