Senate Debate

I know BB and JJ, both are respectable long time Paulding County residents. JJ's family has been in Paulding for generations. With that said, I believe I'm on the same page as both of them when it comes to lies and innuendos.

I will ask one more time, why is Heath spreading mistruths and scaring the crap out of citizens with crazy, yes I said crazy, accusations. Like BB said, why is he not interested in capping "gifts"??

I just have a huge issue with one condemning a candidate that has tax and personal financial issues while supporting one that obviously has those same issues. How can someone support Braddock and not Carruth or support Carruth and not Braddock. Don't use one's personal financial problems against them and support a candidate with the same issue.

Why can't Heath win his home county?? What do they know about him that we don't. Why isn't he running on his record?? He was a rep from 2000 to 2004 and has been in the senate since then. Twelve years of working at the Dome, can't he at least tell us something good about him, what he's done and what he sees in the future if he is elected.

I know Heath is not a liberal but he sure campaigns like one.

Thank you naturegirl. I respect and trust you very much and value your opinion.

I would like to clarify my position on my support of Carruth versus my not supporting Braddock. In my opinion, there is a rather large difference between being delinquent on personal federal and state income taxes as well as employee withholding taxes and sales taxes for Braddock's business. I understand that it is not a good thing for Carruth to have past due property taxes but I also understand the issues the builders and developers have gone through and I understand the property taxes were be paid in full when the properties sell.

I understand that neither Braddock's problems and Carruth's problems are good to have; however, I have said all along that first and foremost, Braddock's personal delinquent tax issues are what really concern me. The many, many other issues Braddock has are somewhat (but not completely) inconsequential compared to her numerous personal federal and state as well as withholding and sales tax issues - these are major issues.

I do believe that Carruth will be a much more effective legislator if elected than Heath ever thought about being. I have known Carruth for a while and the one thing I can say about him without any reservation is that he dearly loves his community. He is persuasive, he is intelligent, he is not a liar, he is fair, he is concerned about the well-being of our District. I truly can't imagine that Carruth will simply "be a puppet". I truly feel he will take charge and seek to serve the citizens of our District. I feel he will introduce legislation that is important to those he serves. I truly believe that he will not be "pushed around" down at the Capitol and will stand his ground on behalf of all of us.

We need people in office that won't be so concerned about what the other legislators and PAC's want, but rather what we as tax paying citizens want. It is a very sad thing to say but many of our legislators are currently being "bought". I don't see Carruth falling for this and being bought.

Yeah, it's just Heath trying to play big dog:

From the Patch again:

"Carruth just emailed me to clarify his response from Friday, so it looks like this event won't be happening. We'll update the story in just a few minutes."

Yea, Heath setting up Carruth wasn't such a wise idea. I'm glad Carruth didn't fall for it. I guess someone needs to give Heath a lesson in manners, you don't set dates for debates until you get an agreement with the person you're going to debate. Ultimatums don't bode well in elections.

NewsJunky,

When the original debates were scheduled for the three of us I was told that I had one option and that was it had to be on a Tuesday night. I was told that ,"We were lucky to get him on those nights.".

I knew that I was going to work 40 hours at my full time job, fly to the Washington D.C. Area, (on my own dime) and then work 52 hours in a 4 day period of time for the Army Reserve to backfill the Active Component Soldiers. A 100 hour work week including travel. I was going to do that, so the men who had 16 DEPLOYMENTS among the 4 of them could spend the Memorial Day holiday with their family. My concern in agreeing to the June 5th debate was I wanted to make sure I would not be fatigued. I was basically told take it or leave it. Those WOULD be the dates. Again, we would be fortunate that he would be at any debate.

It turns out there was a week in between the Memorial Day Holiday weekend and not one day before the debate. Being the challenger, I agreed to the debate, but, I was a
bit miffed that my Senator only had two hours during the month of June to discuss the issues with the people.

I have not decided who I will vote for, if either, but, the proper (military) protocol is to schedule and CONFIRM a date, time and location. We are not in the military, but, I am concerned about the issues and not about both sides playing games. In my opinion, both sides are not discussing issues that are VERY serious and that is a huge disappointment.

Sincerely

It went pretty much as you said. Glad you were able to make it. You were asked though and I think there were 3 dates given but June 5th was the one that worked best for most. That makes a difference. Best I can tell Carruth was sent a message telling him to be there. Did I miss something?

It is amazing to me that Heath can plan these debates, give less than a week notice, expect Bill Carruth to just drop everything he is doing and agree to all of Heath's conditions regarding the date including location, time, date, moderator, etc.

Simply amazing........Bill Heath is NOT (thankfully) the ruler of the universe, contrary to what he obviously thinks. I don't say this lightly but Heath is about as arrogant and self serving as they come.

Maybe its about time that Heath get over himself. This election isn't about what Heath wants and needs, it is about the needs of the citizens in this District and the State of Georgia.

On another note, I received an email about an hour ago from someone very interested in the Ethics Complaint filed against Heath. Can't disclose details yet but the email was from someone very well known in the State of Georgia, very respected, very trusted, VERY vocal and who has the ability to investigate and disseminate the information to LOTS of people at the same time! :)

NewsJunky,

You are always on top of things. We had two debates. The 5th and 19th. Both on Tuesday. As the incumbent I expected him to have a bigger say so than I, but, to say these were the only dates was a bit surprising. I agreed to the dates, because, the person trying to make things happen was not at fault and was just trying to assist the people. In any event, all of that is past tense. I want to see Bill and Bill talk about the issues and not play games. Real people are not eating, working and failing to get educated. Real people have lost their equity in their homes and have lost their jobs.. What are they going to do to help the PEOPLE?

Sincerely,

jk rogers

OK, here is a project for you religious folks out there. It may not be too much to ask God that we have candidates for office who are not about to be indicted, know how to keep it in their pants, and who have paid all of their bills. If possible, it might help that that person doesn't want to redistribute the wealth. Expecting it sure hasn't worked. I know this is asking a lot, but you have two years to work on it. Better start now.

Challenge accepted. :)

He put Nathan Dean out of office and people haven't forgot that. That was Dean's hometown.

Actually, Bill Heath never faced Nathan Dean. Nathan was from Rockmart (Polk County) and Heath is from Haralson. Nathan retired and didn't run the first time Heath decided to run for Senate. There was only one race that Nathan was ever really worried about. I was in his campaign headquarters that night as election results came in. He won, hands down, even though it was one of the closest races he had faced.

I think Heath won because the tide had turned toward Republicans over Democrats for the area. Heath had defeated Tom Murphy in his bid for Representative of the 18th District. MANY of the citizens of Haralson regretted allowing someone to oust their beloved Tom Murphy, and I think that is one of the many reasons he doesn't carry Haralson.

Heeeyyyyy....... :tapfoot2

Not ALL Heaths are bad!

I very much agree! There are two Heaths in Paulding County (initials D and D) that are wondeful people and that I respect so very much.

The Heath in Haralson though.....not so much. :)

And I saw your sweet boy this morning. My besties and I took a mental health day and went to Six Flags. We stopped by the Chick in Hiram first. :)

That's how I remembered it IF, thanks for the insight. You know when you get my age, you're just not quite sure your remember is as good as it once was. 8)

I thought Nathan Dean just decided to retire from the Senate. Nathan Dean ran when Tom Murphy lost, that was his last election, we lost a good man when he retired. He may have had a D behind his name but he was every bit a Southern Gentleman and Statesman.
