Senate Debate

OK, here is a project for you religious folks out there. It may not be too much to ask God that we have candidates for office who are not about to be indicted, know how to keep it in their pants, and who have paid all of their bills. If possible, it might help that that person doesn't want to redistribute the wealth. Expecting it sure hasn't worked. I know this is asking a lot, but you have two years to work on it. Better start now.

I take your challenge. I've been very disheartened by this political season. I don't think your wish list is too much to ask. In addition, I'll add that we improve our own behaviors so that these types of campaigns are not acceptable.

My vote will continue to be for Heath. I can say that not everything has been released, worse than what already has been released, by the Heath campaign on Carruth. :Ninja

Well, that tells me all I need to know about who not to vote for. :laugh

Ask Carrruth about his land dealings as Commission Chairman in an area where a road was planned (now named after him) but not made public yet? And the role our then County Attorney had, who also represented Carruth personally against the County. This land was also approved for rezoning during a 14 day lapse of the moratorium to prevent any zoning changes that only 3 people in the County knew of the lapse. This is from the mid 90's I think.
This is one of them that hasn't been released.

There's more if you want to dig. I ain't saying any more as I still have to do business in this County. :(

Understood and yes, I am aware of much more as well.

I wasn't really "tuned in" during Carruth's commissioner days. In the time that has passed though, it appears he has done good things with his DNR job. I'm just trying to balance the lesser of these two evils in my head. And, as of right now, I see Carruth's past issues paling in comparison to the way Heath has currently conducted himself. I'm still processing this though.

Madea, NG...I do not like Carruth. I was here during his commissioner days. IF there was a GOOD candidate I would cast my vote for him/her. Sadly, we have Heath and Carruth...Heath will never get my vote as he is the worst possible candidate.
Too Conservative for ya, eh there JJ?

Having thought about it, Heath is not conservative enough!
A true conservative would have signed the pledge to limit gifts to $100.00 or better yet, sponsored a bill to outlaw all gifts to govt folks.
You want conservative? Reduce Ga State Senators' pay to that of the average citizen in Ga. Reduce all govt pay a similiar amount.
Outlaw the PACs and take the money out of politics and the crooks will have to go elsewhere for easy money.

I think he's afraid to show up...unless he gets Heath to talk about the useless ethics complaint. But then again, I want to see why Carruth won't pay his taxes unless the county comes after him and his over 200 liens..the worst of anyone in office or who ran for office.

I don't mean to be disrespectful PCGOP but you seem to be rather fond of the word "useless." You referred to several of us in an earlier thread before the election as "useless haters" and now you are using the word "useless" as to the ethics complaint I filed against Bill Heath.

First off, I am not a "useless hater" - just ask my husband of 32 years, my 3 children, my 7 grandchildren, my precious parents, my sibilings, my relataives, my friends, my employers and my co-workers or anyone who knows me well. They will not agree nor do I agree with you calling anyone here on dallashwy.com a "useless hater."

As for the ethics complaint, I filed that because I truly (and so do lots of others in my profession) believe there is a legitimate ethical problem with the "incumbent Protection Program" established by this Senate "Independent" Committee with money being filtered from political PACS to avoid the cap on political contributions.

Who knows - I don't nor do you PCGOP, know what the outcome of this ethics complaint will be. I hope that justice will prevail and this independent committee will be forced to dismantle. No, I don't know for sure that will happen but I truly felt the need to voice my concerns to the Ethics Committee and as a tax paying, law abiding citizen, it is my right to do so.

I have a request for you PCGOP. Can you please be respectful of other's opinions and not attempt to degrade others and their choices in political candidates and the reasons for that support? After all, different opinions are what makes the world go round.

First...I did not call you or anyone on this board "useless haters". Understand? I was speaking of elsewhere and not here and of a different politician and of others outside of here and I have my reasons for it. I really get tired of explaining that. :rant

Second...in my opinion, it is a useless complaint. Where's the one for Carruth who has 10x more issues that Heath ever had? Fair is fair, right?

I can respect other opinions, but respect mine as well. And yes, I am straight forward with my opinions. Anyone that knows me, knows that as I do not subscribe to political correctness. But that is who I am and have always been this way for all of my adult life, 20+ years and there is a reason for it and I don't want to explain why.

So stop taking things so personal, BB. Okay, fair enough?

How much do State Senators make, Johnny? Let me inform you...it's under $20000 a year. Heck, I make more than a State Senator and a State Representative combined. PACS are in both parties on the state and federal level and they are not going anywhere.

Your definition of "Conservative" since you're a liberal is way off base.

I'm not condoning anything Carruth does. In my opinion, his issues are really far less than Heath's are as Carruth at least tells the truth about his issues.

PCGOP - character and truthfullness are very, very important to me. That is why I will not be voting for Heath. As with many others, he earned my "distrust" way back in 2004 when he pulled the shenanigans he did with his opponent, Mason Rountree. He told bald faced lies about Mason opening up sex shops in Paulding County and there couldn't have been anything further from the truth. And then there were the very deceptive and disturbing flyers Heath sent out this campaign about the Federal Marshalls coming after Bill Carruth - news flash, if the Federal Marshalls really wanted him, they would have him by now.

Then there is the very deceptive flyer Heath sent out in the form of a collection letter and I heard it from Heath's own mouth that his campaign was responsible for sending this out and he knew beforehand that it was going out.

Then there is Heath's flip flopping around on the HOPE scholarship issue - it is there for the world to listen to as to the words he used during the Paudling Republican Women's debate. Sure he is now backing off...............

Then there is the issue about Heath not signing the Pledge to limit lobbyist gifts - why would he have a problem with this?

Then there is the issue about Heath's ineffectiveness in the legislature. I understand he has voted the "right way" several times - anyone can do that. Specifically, how many pieces of legislation has he personally introduced to assist the citizens of Paulding County?

I'm so sorry PCGOP that you feel that one of your fellow citizen's opinion is "useless" just because it doesn't "support" "your" candidate. I don't feel "your" opinions are "useless", I simply disagree with them when it comes to Heath and Braddock.

Bottom line - at least Carruth (with his problems) is still honest and I fully expect that Bill Carruth will be ten times more effective than Heath ever thought about being. I firmly believe in light of Heath's past political maneuvers (deceptive campaign flyers), that Heath is NOT an honest person and he has proven that he is not as effective enough of a legislator that Paulding, Polk and Haralson deserve. My opinion, of course! :)

See? You are incorrect AGAIN. Ga Senators get $17,342/year plus $173/day for per diem when in session. Do they not serve 40 days for an additional $6,920.00? Together that is $ 24, 262.00 for 40 days work. THEN let's add in all the gifts...I wonder just how much that is? Then let's add in all that the Senator would earn on his real job...you know, he/she might be a doctor, lawyer, chicken farmer...you just know they don't rely on the senator pay for their total living.

I admit I am liberal on some points, but I am very conservative on most points.
Now when the average citizen earns $35, 490.00 a year (2010 average),

You did not say zilch about per diem..you spoke of salary. So try again, JJ. I still make more them as I said.

All legislatures get diem expenses due to what they do. That is no secret anyhow and is not considered salary. I should know since I work for the government and we as peons get per diem as well when we have to travel too. ;D

I am not concerned anyhow as Heath will win Paulding and District 31.

Whatever....

I know BB and JJ, both are respectable long time Paulding County residents. JJ's family has been in Paulding for generations. With that said, I believe I'm on the same page as both of them when it comes to lies and innuendos.

I will ask one more time, why is Heath spreading mistruths and scaring the crap out of citizens with crazy, yes I said crazy, accusations. Like BB said, why is he not interested in capping "gifts"??

I just have a huge issue with one condemning a candidate that has tax and personal financial issues while supporting one that obviously has those same issues. How can someone support Braddock and not Carruth or support Carruth and not Braddock. Don't use one's personal financial problems against them and support a candidate with the same issue.

Why can't Heath win his home county?? What do they know about him that we don't. Why isn't he running on his record?? He was a rep from 2000 to 2004 and has been in the senate since then. Twelve years of working at the Dome, can't he at least tell us something good about him, what he's done and what he sees in the future if he is elected.

I know Heath is not a liberal but he sure campaigns like one.

In one of the previous election cycles, I was at a GOP meeting on a Sat morning. All of the incumbents and candidates were there for introductions/Q&A/networking. One of my friends introduced me to Heath. I will never forget the initial impression I had. He is one of the most arrogant, condescending jerks I have ever had the misfortune to meet. Despite Ronald Reagan's admonition about never speaking ill of another Republican, I have to say that in addition to being a miserable legislator, he is also a disgusting individual. I can probably count on one hand the number of people in my life that I took an instantaneous dislike to, and Billy boy is on that list.

Do you know what makes Heath candy bars different from Baby Ruths and Mounds and Snickers? No nutz. :laugh

Is there any way we can remove both candidates and get a new selection? I just cannot vote for either one of them.
