Senate Debate

That's how I remembered it IF, thanks for the insight. You know when you get my age, you're just not quite sure your remember is as good as it once was. 8)

I thought Nathan Dean just decided to retire from the Senate. Nathan Dean ran when Tom Murphy lost, that was his last election, we lost a good man when he retired. He may have had a D behind his name but he was every bit a Southern Gentleman and Statesman.

Nathan is a good man. I remember him from the time I was a young girl, always being around, and he loved the people he served. He was a good friend of my grandfather's, but he was as accessible for anyone in his district.

I ran into him at Captain Eddie's not long after I moved here to Dallas. He told me that I was missed "at home" and that I needed to come back. I just laughed and said, "I can still vote for you here!" He chuckled and said that was true, but not the only reason he wanted me around.

A good man, and a good leader. Our politicians will never be the same again, I fear.

I know BB and JJ, both are respectable long time Paulding County residents. JJ's family has been in Paulding for generations. With that said, I believe I'm on the same page as both of them when it comes to lies and innuendos.

I will ask one more time, why is Heath spreading mistruths and scaring the crap out of citizens with crazy, yes I said crazy, accusations. Like BB said, why is he not interested in capping "gifts"??

I just have a huge issue with one condemning a candidate that has tax and personal financial issues while supporting one that obviously has those same issues. How can someone support Braddock and not Carruth or support Carruth and not Braddock. Don't use one's personal financial problems against them and support a candidate with the same issue.

Why can't Heath win his home county?? What do they know about him that we don't. Why isn't he running on his record?? He was a rep from 2000 to 2004 and has been in the senate since then. Twelve years of working at the Dome, can't he at least tell us something good about him, what he's done and what he sees in the future if he is elected.

I know Heath is not a liberal but he sure campaigns like one.

He put Nathan Dean out of office and people haven't forgot that. That was Dean's hometown.

Actually, Bill Heath never faced Nathan Dean. Nathan was from Rockmart (Polk County) and Heath is from Haralson. Nathan retired and didn't run the first time Heath decided to run for Senate. There was only one race that Nathan was ever really worried about. I was in his campaign headquarters that night as election results came in. He won, hands down, even though it was one of the closest races he had faced.

I think Heath won because the tide had turned toward Republicans over Democrats for the area. Heath had defeated Tom Murphy in his bid for Representative of the 18th District. MANY of the citizens of Haralson regretted allowing someone to oust their beloved Tom Murphy, and I think that is one of the many reasons he doesn't carry Haralson.

You are correct. My bad on that one. Should have waited for that last cup of coffee before posting this morning. lol

I knew it was one of them but for some reason Murphy just never come to mind.

You are so right. Nathan and Ann Dean are the "salt of the earth" kind of people and I so miss having him in the legislature. Truly one of our areas greatest legislators ever!!!

Well why did they show up when there was never going to be a debate?

Perhaps Heath was going to talk out of both sides of his mouth and debate himself... :dunno

Well because the news went out and people expect both to show up and its not easy to get out the word that Carruth wasn't showing up. Plus, Heath explained the issues and all to those that were there. Heath did the same thing in Bremen as I just got back about 45 mins ago and people were appreciative for Heath to at least give them explanation to the accusations by Carruth.

I think it would have been better to have talked to Carruth BEFORE the word went out. JMO

I'd vote for him twice.

I know - he would be perfect for the job!
