What goes around...

There is such a thing as tradition and etiquette. Generally speaking the losing candidates who speak during the convention publicly endorses the nominee. It's as simple as that. Make whatever excuse you want, it doesn't change the fact that it's a "tacky move" to speak yet not endorse. Cruz would expect no less if he was the nominee. I actually gained some respect for Rubio and will remember him in the future even though I personally think he ran a crappy campaign.

Rubio is a butt kiss.

Like him or not, I think Cruz truly believes that Trump is a poor choice. And remember what Trump said about Cruz's family. I can't find fault with him for standing on his principles here.

I have learned that Trump read Cruz's speech beforehand and approved it. Too bad the Trump loyals can't be as big about it as Trump was.

Rubio is definitely a butt kisser. He ran for the senate expressing great conservative values to gain the support of the Tea Party, only to turn his back on those values once sworn into office. Rubio ran for the senate because because he had aspirations to be president and he quickly fell in lockstep with the GOPe.

The Democrats are running scared after that barn burner of a speech last night.

:)

I tried to watch the whole speech but kept falling asleep so I turned it off before he finished. That's not meant as a dig against Trump (really!)...I was just tired and it was getting late.

Was there a big to do about a pledge and support in that election?
Back then it was always expected that if you did not win the nomination, that you would help the candidate's campaign. Reagan not did not endorse Ford, he refused Ford's request to make appearances at campaign events on his behalf.

Reagan new Ford was a toxic candidate and would not win because he pardoned Nixon and because of that would lose the votes of the independents and moderate voters. The election results were close with Ford losing. I honestly feel Ford would have still lost even had Reagan endorsed him because the independents and moderates could not forgive or even understand why Ford gave Nixon a pardon.

Another reason Reagan did not endorse Ford because he strongly believed Carter would be a failure as president and the moderates and independents would be quickly dissatisfied with him before the end of his first term. One only has to look at the 1980 election to see how dissatisfied voters were with Carter. Reagan received 489 of the electoral votes, while Carter received only 49. Not only were the independents and moderates dissatisfied with Carter, but so were a lot of Democrats who voted for him in 1976. Carter won only 4 states (GA, WVA, RI, MD) and DC. I remember how upset the UAW rank and file were when the union leadership endorsed Carter. The rank and file started their own campaign in support of Reagan.

To me this presidential election is nothing more than to defeat Hillary. I'll vote for Trump because I know Clinton would only continue the slow death of the US that Obama has started. I have no idea what will happen with Trump as president, but if he's a failure like Carter was, I will hope Cruz runs to seek the nomination in 2020.

I'm impressed that you at least tried to watch it. You're coming around, slowly but surely. (And to answer one of your previous questions, no, opinions should be welcomed by both candidates and their supporters. We all have opinions and seldom agree on everything).

I see no comparison to Ted's demeanor and behavior to the great Ronald Reagan in these speeches. Ford and Reagan were clearly united together and there was no reference to "voting" their "conscience". Ted's remarks were blatantly in defiance of the nominee and the one glaring difference between the two. Did you notice?

Reagan wasn't BOOED off stage.....Enjoy

Lemme clarify something...

I'm not so much defending Cruz as I'm trying to make the point that this continued war from Trump supporters on Cruz or other Republican candidates will divide the right leaning voters and hurt Trump on election day.

Trump and his loyals should be extending their hands to the rest of us with a message of "Join Us", instead of "your guy sucks".

I think Trump is finally starting to do that. Now if his loyals will cool their jets.

Most all they talked about was unity during the convention. If there a war between sides, the Cruz side has as many soldiers and are just as much at fault. I read Facebook like most others and have seen plenty of pro-Cruz posts about what an idiot and embarrassment Trump is....or they think he is. There's plenty of mud slinging to go around.
