Should have gone to the airport meeting today

Ok, so back on topic ...

I've been doing some checking and it seems to me that the only part of this that was not known by (or at least information available to) the citizens of Paulding was the specific deal with Propeller.

~Even long before Paulding built an airport Hartsfield/Atlanta have long intended to build another airport out here so anyone that bothered to check would have known that an airport was a very real possibility out here.

~Commercial us has been planned for all along as far as I have understood and in fact there is a "MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR COMMERCIAL AERONAUTICAL SERVICE PROVIDERS" that was developed and published for Paulding back in 2010.

~Propeller is paying for the current expansion taking place at the airport.

~Authority was given to the Airport Authority to do exactly what they did. The secrecy was needed in order to keep Delta and Atlanta from getting their noses in the middle of it.

This county desperately needs real businesses here to help take the tax load off of the homeowners. The airport may not be what some folks would have chosen but it is here, it has very real potential, and we have someone else willing to invest in it to make it work for us. We are not talking about 747s flying around here all day and we're not even talking about that many flights per week of the smaller craft that will be flying.

I need someone to help me see more of the picture that is causing such an uproar with some folks. So much of what I'm seeing being thrown around as reasons to be upset turn out to not be factual/accurate and I'm getting frustrated. I want to understand, I really do.

I don't know what all the hoopla is either.
Not because I don't think there is a problem, but trying to read all about it (what with all the big words and all) makes my pretty little head hurt.
However, I come from a group of friends that stands with (and sometimes behind) their friends,
So if one of my hwy buddies has a problem with something, in this case NG, then I got a problem with that also.
Like I said, me and my friends are the kind that stick together.
Our saying is, if you get in jail, we'll get you out!
If we can't get you out, we'll get in there with you!
One for all and all for one!
One shot, we're all shot!
We never leave a man (woman) behind!

Disclaimer:
The above rhetoric does not apply when your wife gets mad at you.
Your wife gets mad at you and you are on your own brother, cause we are outta here.
We got our own wives to fight and we ain't got nothing extra to share with you when you are fighting with yours.
We will however be waiting for you, with a cold beer, at the local bar when your wife finally allows you back out of the house.
We will then be happy to tell you what we would have done had our wives acted that way and what we would have said if our wives had said that to us!
Cause that's just the kind of friends we are!

I certainly don't question her right to be upset. She's not the only one ... plenty of folks that I know are up in arms about it. I'm trying to see their side, their view of it. That's all.

I understand.
I wasn't doubting intentions or really commenting on your post.
My post was all in humor.

Well, I will stand up for you guys........as long it is doesn't really require any effort on my part.
Basically, I will stand up for you guys........as long as I can do it sitting down.

You don't have to believe me but you can attend the work session on Tuesday at 10:00 or the meeting at 7:00.

People lie, then they raise you taxes again to pay for the bonds. I'm done.

The county may well be seeking funds for other work but sources outside of the county state on record that Propeller is paying for work has already begun. Now there is also hope that Propeller can gain an FAA Grant to pay for the permanent control tower that will be needed but Propeller is reportedly paying for the temporary tower.

Cathy, I 100% respect your right to your opinion and the fact that you are willing to do something unlike so many folks that just sit back and complain without doing anything. I'm just trying to see what everyone has to say about it all.

:love Excellent post and right on the money.

Let me explain a little bit about how big(ger) business works on just about any expansion where there may competition. The world of big business is very cut throat and a competitor will do what ever they can to stop you if they find out.

The County has been working hard to get the word out all over the world of our little airport and this has the competition (aka ATL airport, etc) paying attention and may have "moles or spies" at the meetings, they are open to the public.

When a big business comes to the County or Airport Authority, before anything is discussed or introduced (this may include the business name and the nature of their business), Non-Disclosure Agreements are passed out to all involved and present at the meeting...always closed door or at someone's office. You break a NDA and no one will ever talk to you again, period. If you are not sued that is.

Only the decision makers will be invited into these meetings, the fewer the people that know the better. There have been some big deals lost in the past because a "commissioner or staff member" told someone...who told someone...who told someone else...and so on. And unless you are a decision maker, you have no right to be in the meeting anyway.

This is just common practice when dealing in these types of deals. I was certified to do Business Brokerage (buying and selling of a business) years ago. It doesn't matter the size of the business, NDA's were always required. And if someone didn't use them, they had no clue what they were doing. From the $100K a year "stop and rob" stores to multi-$Million$ and larger (non-public, non-stock sales) are all basically done the same way, with a few exceptions. No One Knows Until The Deal Is Done!

As UM said, it's always been public knowledge since the initial land purchase in the early 70's that this was going to be an airport or sold back to the County for the same price it was purchased at. It's been public knowledge since before the construction started that it was being built to commercial standards and will be done so in stages over many years. There is still a 2nd runway to be built later one when traffic warrants the need. It has always been public knowledge that there would be additional industrial areas built around the airport, on both sides of Hwy 278 and long range plans call for a large resort center with hotels, golf courses and much more to be built on the S/W to West side of the property. All of this is projected to take 20 to 30 years to do. I think this whole project is around 10,000 acres, of which the County has only purchased about 150 so far.

But since no one but me attended a lot of these meetings when they were happening, I bet no one know of the 20,000 house mega-subdivision Cousins has plans for and already owns the 10,000 acres just west of the airport? Or the 1500 house subdivision that was in the works on the Polk/Paulding County line at Hwy 278? This was all public knowledge 5 to 8 years ago, for the most part. It was made public but never advertised, you had to know where to look to find it.

Dang, I know I'm getting old, where was I going with all this? Ok, enough with my rambles....for now. :)

Great post and I am also seeking answers to the uproar because what I am being told by some that are upset is not matching what I can read in black and white. :dunno

Wow. You are a plethora of information! Thanks.

I posted this elsewhere a couple of days ago, but here is my serious take on this situation.

I will be the first to say that as far as the ins and outs of how the airport will affect those around it and how successful it can or will be, I have no clue.
I do know that with major business deals keeping things on QT can be a major part of getting the deal done.
So I cannot have an informed opinion on whether the county commissioners have served the people and county of Paulding well with the airport deal.

But I do know this.
If you have this much controversy over who knew what and when.
If you have the general public feeling that they do not have a voice in what goes on in their community and with their elected officials, then you as the elected officials have done something wrong somewhere.
Whether it is with the deal itself, whether it is in keeping silent with some elected officials or whether it is in the way that you presented to deal to the public and/or the way that you have treated said public who have questions about the deal; somewhere along the line, you screwed up.

Since we all screw up at one time or another, I suggest that the elected officials do what we try and teach our kids to do when they screw up.
Admit what you screwed up, ask for forgiveness for the mistake and try and do it right from now on.

If they refuse to admit that mistakes were made, and again I have do not know exactly what and where the mistakes were, then there is a bigger problem.
Because when people refuse to admit a mistake, they will continue to make these same mistakes over and over again.

To repeat myself, why do I think mistakes were made somewhere along the line.
Because if there were no mistakes made, you may have some who are not happy with the deal, but you wouldn't have the commissioners "fighting" in public, you wouldn't have a large portion of the people saying they feel the elected officials do not care what they want and last but certainly not least, it wouldn't be news worthy for the local TV.
(and that is taking into account the fact that I have little respect for what the local news channels consider news worthy)

I have said a few times I think that how this was made public is going to bite them in the butt, even if they did nothing wrong legally. I hate it and wish they would just call an open town hall meeting for them to explain it all and give people a chance to talk. Even if there are 2 minute rules for question and answer. (and a sign up ahead of time) I think it will go a long way to squash some of the rumors and misinformation and make people feel better about the deal.

I think that your idea has a lot of merit.
Most of the time when people are extremely frustrated, is not only with what is happening, but more importantly they feel that they have no control or say so on things they feel they should.
If they did something like what you suggest, you are still going to have some people unhappy, but a lot of the frustration will subside.
(at least until next time :)

No you're not, you're more of a fighter than that. Get your side of the story out there - keep being a pain in the backside of the BOC so they know they are being held accountable for their actions (good or bad).

If you need lessons in how to be a thorn in the side, let me know. There are lots of folks here that will quickly attest to the fact that I can be a pain.... ;)

I could be mistaken but I don't believe she mean that she was quitting. I think she meant that she was done with the lies and taxes and was going to take her stand.

But again, I could be mistaken.
