Should have gone to the airport meeting today

Rolling down the highway
I hear those that attended didn't have a say. It was a done deal and they couldn't do anything about it. But the press listened as did the AJC.

Todd Pownall was interviewed by all the news stations, I have a feeling the stuff's going to get deep.

I still say they are putting the cart before the horse, no infrastructure, many, many roads still unpaved. No plan, just build it and they will come attitude.

Also found out Todd Pownall was not the only person that didn't know about any of this, there are others that were told they could not attend "closed meetings". Apparently there were more than a few and they are county employees.

Next meeting is November 20 at 9:00, I will be there. :)

Make sure you catch the evening news, WSB is airing an interview with Todd.

Okay, I have to ask.... WHAT are you talking about? What's going on with the airport?

What types of commercial flights? Is the airport big enough to accommodate a large carrier? :dunno

Come on y'all, everyone is just sort of silent on this. The way this "deal" was handled was reminiscent of Chicago politics. I know it won't have an impact on most of you and perhaps it could be a good thing.

Buttt..........meetings behind closed doors, commissioners being left out of the negotiations, people that work for the county not knowing what was going on. Want to know why? When they brought the toll road before the public, it got shot down. I know this is how business deals are handled but this is not a regular business, this involves taxpayer money.

There is no infrastructure plan, no plan to pave gravel roads, no plan on the effect to the taxpayers in the county while they are waiting for all those jobs to move in.

They have already started construction and from my understanding they are not using one Paulding County contractor to build the stuff they have broken ground for.

We'll see how you feel when your taxes go up yet again for Paulding's elected officials to get their pet projects completed.

I understand that the marshal's office was well represented though.

Sent from a small screen using fat thumbs.

Yes, and the County Commissioner Chairman ducked out within minutes of the opening when the participants were told they couldn't ask questions and the meeting was cancelled. Even the one poor lady that did everything right to get on the agenda. They were basically told it was a done deal, go f*** yourselves.

I'm silent simply because I haven't had a chance to read up on it yet. My initial reaction is that expanding the airport WILL bring more jobs to Paulding and I'm all for that. BUT, let me read up on all of the shenanigans and then you know I will have an opinion!!

I was at that Toll Road meeting and the way Austin treated those concerned citizens was pretty shocking.

Mine too, and Winchester, I believe posted some information regarding this deal. Let me see if I can find that other topic.

Somebody is getting the gold mine and somebody is getting the shaft. You don't have to be a genius to figure out where the taxpayers are on that scale.

It's not about whether or not limited commercial use of the county airport is a good thing. It is. It's about how the revenues and expenses from those operations are divided over the next 25 years. The standard for such long term arrangements at small airports like ours are 35 cents per square foot of undeveloped land and $3-$12 per square foot for improved land with the leesee being responsible for all improvements maintenance, compliance, and management., This is PLUS 8 cents per gallon of fuel pumped per year. Profit percentage arrangements where the airport authority has no operations management or subleasing authority are far to risky for a long term deal. Bad management and special business arrangements can ruin the stated profitability. The County is the landlord here, not a silent partner, and should be paid as such.

Will they? Or is this something unknown as of yet?

I have seen it reported elsewhere that this is strictly a percentage of the profits deal, but I have not read the lease agreement. I also understand that the actual agreement is NOT with propeller investments directly, a troubling development.

Hmmm, that info on the agreement is new to me.
