Who sports the best "meat"?

I like eating most animals. Last night, tonight (and finishing the leftovers tomorrow night) I had salmon Encrute. Pretty good, even if I had to make it myself.

YUM! Did you make it in the fluffy puff pastry? If you were closer you would not have leftovers, you would have a guest! :))

Wifey and I have leaned to cook more healthy and make it taste quite good. We've still got aways to go in our quest to eat clean, but we're getting there.

Now if we're going to talk about what we actually eat more of ... chicken/turkey is it for our house.

I eat so much chicken I'm expecting feathers to grow on my butt.

(how's that for a visual?) :taunt

Nothing like a great steak or slow cooked, smoked ribs. I've been eating a lot of chicken here. Not by choice either; unless I want to starve. When I come home on leave in June, I'm not eating any chicken at all. When I come home for good, I probably won't eat chicken for six months. We also get served rice all the time.

As far as who sports the best meat? Hmmmmm. That's a tough one. The cow wins for me, but not by much.

Nothing beats a big bloody steak or a thick juicy burger...

I agree! Knock it on the head, wipe it's butt and throw it on a plate! :DN

Yeah, see, that's disgusting. This is where I part ways with all the chi-chi gourmet types. I know from good steak, and I cannot ABIDE steak that is not well cooked. I don't mean dried out, and I don't mean cooked to death, but I just can't go with blood oozing out of the steak as I cut it. Nasty. AND it doesn't taste nearly as good to me. Oh, and I also have been known to use steak sauce iwth my steak. Let the hatin' begin.

Haha! Y'all should see how M eats steak. He drowns the poor slab of meat in A-1. I wonder if he actually like the steak or the condiments?

I'm with you on cooking a steak well. I don't even like to see pink in the middle. Blegh!

And I'm still wondering about those fish toes. Wonder if Captain D's serves em? ;D

You wouldn't want to eat steak with me. Back in my rescue squad days ... we had steak for dinner one night and one of the guys commented that a good medic could bring mine back to life. My father-in-law jokes that he just puts my steak near the grill to cook it.

Oh my. I would :sick. No way I would eat that (if I ate red meat) and trust that in this day and age that something didn't contaminate it and kill me. At least cooking it well done would (hopefully) get rid of some things.

Cooking red meat to well not only destroys the flavor (in my opinion ... though basically raw isn't necessary for taste ;) ) it also makes the meat less beneficial for your body.

That aside ... I am more and more careful about the food that comes into our home. The closer I can get to truly natural, the better. Our food in this country has become less and less healthy and riskier and riskier. It's scary, to be sure. We aren't full organic but we're very careful. Beef in this house is organic and grass fed/finished as much as possible. Heck, I'd fully switch us to wild game if I could. The kids LOVE venison ... even as the meat for tacos or their steak.

We are as organic here as we can be too. We love local farmers and try to get as much as we can that is not processed from the stores. Not much meat comes through here, but we do try to get the best we can when it does. Husband and son love buffalo, but neither like venison.

I was so spoiled before I moved here from No.VA. There was a buffalo ranch less than 30 minutes from home. He intentionally stayed small so that he could maintain the well being of the animals and the quality of the meat. Oh man was that ever good stuff. So much better than the stuff you can get at the grocery stores.

Good heavens. That would be totally awesome to live near somebody like that.

What the deer were raised on makes a huge difference in taste,
coming from someone who really does not like any gamey flavor...

I have a freezer full of venison that feasted on a bountiful supply of acorns,
and it is some of the sweetest most tender meat ever... taste like good veal.

I did not know this. Next time I'm offered venison, I'll sample it again...I may have gotten a gamey batch (which I also do not like at all).
