Who sports the best "meat"?

We are as organic here as we can be too. We love local farmers and try to get as much as we can that is not processed from the stores. Not much meat comes through here, but we do try to get the best we can when it does. Husband and son love buffalo, but neither like venison.
I was so spoiled before I moved here from No.VA. There was a buffalo ranch less than 30 minutes from home. He intentionally stayed small so that he could maintain the well being of the animals and the quality of the meat. Oh man was that ever good stuff. So much better than the stuff you can get at the grocery stores.

I love buffalo meat!!! I'd rather eat that than any other source of protein. Good stuff! :thumbsup

Oh my. I would :sick. No way I would eat that (if I ate red meat) and trust that in this day and age that something didn't contaminate it and kill me. At least cooking it well done would (hopefully) get rid of some things.
Cooking red meat to well not only destroys the flavor (in my opinion ... though basically raw isn't necessary for taste ;) ) it also makes the meat less beneficial for your body.

That aside ... I am more and more careful about the food that comes into our home. The closer I can get to truly natural, the better. Our food in this country has become less and less healthy and riskier and riskier. It's scary, to be sure. We aren't full organic but we're very careful. Beef in this house is organic and grass fed/finished as much as possible. Heck, I'd fully switch us to wild game if I could. The kids LOVE venison ... even as the meat for tacos or their steak.

We get together with some other families and split an organic grass-fed cow, but it doesn't last long enough. I wish we could afford a whole cow. SOo-o-o-o delicious and nutritious.

Seriously. We might get some, too.

OMG you guys are awful! You............. you, Omnivores!!

I'm with BS, pork tops my list unless I can get a good steak. I used to keep the books for a steak house. The butcher they got their meat from only sold to the restaurant industry. Of course being employed there I got to buy some, I've yet to find a steak that tastes like theirs did.

Fish toes, are not on my favorites list either.

I used to enjoy all kinds of porky goodness but I just can't bring myself to buy it anymore. Commercially raised pigs are fed so much bad stuff. Now a wild pig ... I'm all over it.

I don't eat much meat and I know commercially raised meat is not good for us, from any source. I don't think I've ever had wild pig.

There actually are some good options available even in local grocery stores. Beef and Buffalo.

I'm still waiting to catch the beef out at Carlton Farms. Every time I've been out there, they've been sold out.

I have to say that it is hard to beat a good rack of pork ribs and brisket. Of course, I'm of the frame of mind that if it walks, flies, or swims, I'm all over it.

We get our beef from Bobby Arnold, in Fairmount. He allows us to have it completely grass fed with no finishing at the feed lot, so it doesn't weigh as much as a normal cow and doesn't have as much fat.

Have you heard of Riverview Farms, Wes and Charlotte Swancy? If you don't want to have/split a whole cow, you can buy what you want from them. They are in Ranger, but they have deliveries around the city. Their beef is grass fed and very good. We have been members of their veggie co-op for ten years.

I'm beginning to think that you may be my new best friend. ;D

Me, too, me, too! That Arnold name sounds a bit familiar...I wonder if my father knew him? Anyhoo, I might be calling you (Genevieve) for the info...
