This should be interesting

I couldn't help but start laughing as I read through this............Seems every vacation idea GD puts out there, all the gloom and doomers start posting. hahahahahaha. GD, you could end up telling us that you're going to Felton for the weekend and the very next post would be "watch out for the meth makers". hahahahahaha. Sorry to add to it. Enjoy the trip where ever you go.

GOOD HEAVENS!!! Felton?!?!?!? Honey, I could tell you some stories about that place and the people who live there. (And again, I am not kidding!) But hey - you wanna take your life into your own hands and head to Felton for a vaca, who am I to say you shouldn't?

Not everywhere is doom and gloom. I said the Caribbean cruise would be good; the norovirus warning was just to be aware. He could go to Callaway Gardens, the Keys, Alaska, Great Britain, Dominican Republic (but not Haiti), and all manner of other places and not get a warning from me. Just sayin'. ;)

I agree with everywhere else too. I couldn't help but laugh, though.

Did I mention I was part of that "Gloom and Doom" ? :HAHA :HAHA :HAHA :HAHA

I could tell him of our time in Belize (the.most.beautiful.place.) how we paid people to travel with us everywhere with automatic rifles after they warned us of the guerrillas that try to kidnap American citizens, but I didn't want to scare him out of travel outside the US. :))

OK, I checked with "She who adores me Junior" and it is definitely a cruise.

Wee hoo! Keep us posted on the cruise line and other details. Us Nosy Nellies like to know things.

Haha...see, I'm so cynical that I would have thought the guys with rifles made the whole up just to get you to hire them!

No it was the State Department or I would have thought the same thing! We were traveling up into the rain forest and caves that are very close to the border (like they follow one) of Guatemala.

So has this solved the flying issue? Will you just drive down to FL to grab your boat?

Nope, still flying.
I never fly to a cruise. The airlines have restrictions on what I can bring, my car and the boat does not! I get to bring everything I need. One word of advice; get a room with a balcony. You will not believe how much bigger the room will feel. Yes, it is much cheaper not to, but I think you will be much happier if you do.

For all its other stupidity, the State Dept. is a fantastic place for up-to-the-minute info on the status of a particular place in the world. They keep that site updated very well.

YES YES YES!!! I second the balcony thing. I will admit it won't make that much difference if you're doing the Caribbean, since you'll be out and about so much. (Although even then it would be nice.) But if you ever go to Alaska (AND EVERYONE SHOULD GO TO ALASKA!!!), you MUST get a balcony because the days are Very Long, and even in the middle of the night there is some light, and if you don't have a balcony cabin, you will miss TONS of scenery. Plus, it can be nippy depending on when you go, and it's marvy to be able to see all that BEAUTY from the comfort of your own cabin.

I wanna go NOW! :whiiiiiiiine:

They do and we have looked at it and even called when we have traveled. Things can be volatile in some of the places we have chose to travel and day to day things can change. I am glad to have the resource!

Well, remind her that my mother has ever been TERRIFIED at the thought of flying, and if she flew, then SWAY can do it. It's really actually pretty monotonous. Go to the airport (I highly recommend the parking lots with security and take their shuttle vs. parking at the airport), schlep through security, wander to the gate, sit and wait, get on the plane, sit and wait, fly to destination/land, taxi to gate, sit and wait, get caught in crush of people all standing up at once pulling their crap out of overhead bins and standing in the aisle, schlep through that airport to ground transportation. The only thing she'll feel is the takeoff and possible banking. But she'll have you...she can squeeze your hand if she gets really afraid. ;)

Coffee and wine for sunrise and sunset is fabulous! Plus just to get some breathing room from others on days at sea. :)) I want to do Alaska, I just haven't done some others that top the list above Alaska. I really need for the economy to get back to what it was!

I'm such a geek. I like to check it sometimes and see what they're saying about places like Madagascar. (Generally not somewhere you want to go.) There's ALWAYS warnings about Syria, Pakistan, etc. I would def. take that information to be able to call.

What's the freakiest/most dangerous place you've ever traveled, SD? The worst place I've ever been is Jamaica. I don't recommend that to ANYBODY, even in a resort. Talk about slackers. Man, that place is creepy. I felt very oppressed the entire time we were there (this was 20 years ago, and things have only changed for the worse from what I understand), and Kingston was completely scary. They say now Kingston is pretty much a war zone with cartels, gangs, and whatnot.

You know, that is a real consideration. There's SO MUCH going on on a cruise that I find it VERY relaxing to just go to my room and look out the window.

That's a big part of why I don't do cruises ... I don't like people. I sure as heck don't want to be trapped on a boat with that many of them. And if I'm going to go and end up staying in my cabin/on my balcony ... I may as well go to a fixed location and do the site-seeing stuff from there.

I'm such an anti-social individual.
