They are close cousins only in that they are both a virus, and as different as are you and your cousins. The older method of developing a vaccine was to use an inactive dead virus to grow copies of (typically in raw eggs), then inject the inactive version into the body as something to fight and kill. The commonality for this SARS/Covid thing is S1 protein spike around the virus. Until they find a similar commonality in other viral strains, we will have to put up with the killed virus vaccines as our line of defense.
I agree. Everything I read from studies and virologists out of Europe says natural immunity is better than the vaccine. Only the CDC, the WHO and Biden say different.
Assuming mRNA technology proves safe, that's promising. I think the technology has great potential, I'd just feel better with some time under it's belt.In the works.

You need to read the history of mRNA. It was invented in 1986 by Robert Malone, then slowly stolen from him. It's been in use since the early 1990's, and is proven to be safe in the last 20 years,,, which is the reason the Covid vaccines could be rushed through trials.

The Democrats are attacking that treatment because DeSantis is promoting a FREE effective and accessible tool to prevent hospitalizations.
(Facebook has slapped an "experimental" warning label on Democrat posts that claim the treatment cost thousands of dollars...)
No warning about the spread of dangerous misinformation concerning this proven treatment contained in those posts !!!

Part of the hospital surge is that they've scared the crap out of people...
I've seen reports that every hypochondriac with a sniffle is going to the ER...
RE : about the above... I can confirm this is true.
( per a friend who is a diagnostic tech at a nearby hospital... she started having Covid symptoms on Friday.
She then took an informal poll on FB of her friends and coworkers, asking if they or their kids were sick with any colds or viruses going around.
Out of well over 100 responses of Moms with sick children, all of whom had swarmed urgent care or doctor's offices or hospitals to be tested...
A grand total of 3 had tested positive for Covid... the rest were all sick with the same old colds, influenza, RSV, sinus crap that our kids get every single school year !!! )
The media is scaring the crap out of parents, and the parents are crowding the healthcare facilities !!!
They've convinced people that every illness is Covid... no surprise that people will panic.

Our son’s wife tested positive today. She’s is in her 3rd trimester of pregnancy and is due Oct 29, So far she is only showing mild symptoms…scratchy throat and nasal congestion mainly and is only taking her neonatal supplements. Our son continues to improve, says he just gets tired more easily. Our nephew is improving but now his sister (our niece) also just tested positive, they both live in South Georgia. Hopefully all just have mild cases.
I was hoping she wouldn't get it. Maybe she'll have a light case.
Tell Bubba to rest and get better, and maybe we can resume when he's clear of the WuFlu.
As for getting tired easier...that can last awhile. I still do.
I thought about that too, the SIL and I can finish it up when ya'll get back if we have to.
We're OK for awhile, I have other stuff to do. Hoping to do the bathroom tile next week and finish the plumbing. He should have time to get better.
I got the new HVAC system operational. Really nice! you might wanna consider some of this for the new J-Home. Come by when we get back and I'll show it to you.
