Winter Storm Watch Issued

JSYK....The noon runs of the GFS and NAM models are beginning to agree on Wednesday and it's going to suck big time. Forget tomorrow, that will be a piece of cake. Both models are in agreement that we will have between 8 and 10 hours of freezing rain amounting to a total of about 6/10 of an inch or more. For reference, one tenth of an inch can bring down weakened trees and limbs causing sporadic power outages, one quarter of an inch can bring down large healthy limbs causing widespread power outages and some property damage and blocked roads, and 1/2 inch can cause long term power outages and widespread property damage from numerous downed trees onto power lines and structures along with widespread road blockages. Anything over that is just adding insult to injury.

I have a 5KW generator, so I can run the furnace off it.
Me too. But I have only 15 gallons of gas. I also have 2 30lb and 2 20 lb propane tanks, one 30,000 btu propane heater, and one 15,000 btu propae heater. i also have a cord of firewood.

I'm concerned about a tree that is leaning away from where they just put in my new water line. If it goes over, the root ball will probably yank that new line right out of the ground. I've been meaning to get it cut down but I may have waited too long.

Hunker Down.

City of Atlanta has announced that schools are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Dekalb is also closed tomorrow.

We're already closed. Got the kids in the storm cellar, mil is perched in the attic, and hot chocolate is on the stove.

:spitchick

Why didn't you tell me? I'm still at work!

(But I am impressed that you thought of your sweet mother in law. :love )

that's why we built the attic on the house. It can double as the mil suite.

:Stick hush! :))

I don't mind snow for a few days. Ice is a different story. The last ice storm I can remember was in 1996. I was pregnant with my oldest and we woke up to no power and everything completely covered in ice. We had to go to my aunts house in Villa Rica to eat. She had a gas stove where mine was electric.

Also, the days my hubby's job closes for weather come off their sick days. I know it's not right, doesn't make sense, etc., but that's how his boss is.

why does sticking a mil in the attic suddenly remind me of a book?

I've no clue what we'll do if we lose power. Huddle up in the bed with my pets? Marc is likely staying at work tomorrow night, so it'll be just me and the animals.

And DDD just posted a map showing 14" of snow for us by Thursday. Ye gods. This is shaping up to be a colossal nightmare.

I plan on racing around I-285...jk. I'll be here at home with the fireplace roaring. If we lose electricity I'll use the grill to cook and the extra burner for hot water or soup. We'll make it a few days until it warms up.

The latest snow depth map posted shows over 13 inches of snow for us! Of course, the experts have said that won't all fall as snow....it could be 8" - 10" in snow and the rest in ice. Mercy!

I hear they make good insulation.

Sent from a small screen using fat thumbs.

Ugggghhhh!!! DDD's map!!! NOOOOOO!

Luckily we don't have any trees near the house. We have plenty of wood (hopefully) and food (hopefully). I'm going to fill up the bathtubs with water for flushing, etc, in case we lose water for whatever reason.

Me thinks this is going to be bad, bad, bad.
