My question, would people be so hell bent on trying to prove this kid had other intentions if Obama hadn't invited him to the white house?
Well, by doing that, Obama made it a much bigger deal than it probably would have been had he kept his presidential nose out of it.

Some people see it as a bad thing, I think it's a good thing that the president invited him. I'm willing to bet plenty of presidents in the past have reached out to young people for one reason or another. Was it a political move? Probably. I mean we are talking about politicians. Just as the sudden need to vilify this kid is purely political.

There is no political "need to vilify this kid." People are looking at the facts and evidence.

The media held him up as a poster boy for Islamophobia, but could not be bothered to ask
very obvious and basic questions about his story. So far we are still hearing only one side...

The truth matters...

As far as I can see only the far right is questioning this kid and the situation. The media has held him up as being the poster child of Islamophobia. Not regular people.

Islamophobia, is that a real word?
I get the point, but I was just wondering.

No need for me to repeat myself.

I still stand by my original post questions.

A few things that bother me about this whole fiasco.
1. A school full of learned people and they can't tell a bomb from a clock?
2. Would the teacher have been as scared if it was Billy WASP that brought the clock to school.
3. If a kid can't bring his homemade clock to show his science teacher at school, then should we just shut down schools?
4. Would Obama be inviting Billy WASP to the White House?
5. How much do you think the school district will settle the lawsuit for?

Might want to look again, many folks who initially supported the kid are now calling it a hoax.

And those folks are not limited to one side of the political spectrum... it's just common sense.

Hmmm, I just typed in Google: who thinks clock is a hoax
Christian Post
Liberty News
The Daily Beast (way more right leaning than left with its articles)
World Net Daily (Conservative)
Jihad Watch
Pamela Geller
Fox News
The Gateway Pundit
BreitBart
Just the first few. ;)

Heck I don't know. Teens are funny creatures. I don't know his intentions.

But, to speak to Jenilyn's comment, most likely not. But, quite frankly, it simply amazes me (and not in a good way) that the "leader of the free world" is so quick to jump on bandwagons (involving blacks or muslims) without finding out all of the information. If he is that quick to make assumptions in those instances, IMHO, quite frankly, he's a racist. Not every misstep because someone is black or muslim is a deliberate attempt to suppress or oppress them.

The overwhelming majority of the South isn't racist. The "Confederate Flag" isn't racist.

His father's history sure makes the whole thing suspect.
Have you read about the fathers platform? Not a typical Muslim.

I've read some. Father is not a typical anything. He's out there.

Here's an update I just found: http://theconservativetreehouse.com/2015/09/18/briefcase-clock-maker-ahmed-mohamed-is-son-of-muslim-activist/

There's a YouTube video where the kid actually admits that his "invention" would be "suspicious"

I read dozens of opinion pieces from people who initially
defended the kid and accepted the story at face value...

When additional information became available, they changed their minds.
I can point to at least half a dozen liberals who walked back on this story.
Looky here, I have the sense to admit when my first reaction was wrong.

This ain't political, it's about the blatant dishonesty of biased journalism.

BTW :

The kid was on TV just Wed night still claiming he built a clock from "spare parts."

The family made a big deal of announcing they have hired prominent lawyers to get the clock back,
but the police were perplexed because they told them they could to pick the clock up at anytime...

:dunno I really have only seen conservative pieces on the feeling it was a hoax, that is why I looked it up after you said that to J. I think it is great that you can admit your first reaction is wrong, but I am still not sure it is. :dunno I just do not like that without evidence, not speculation or theories, that many are condemning a 14 year old boy in the press. I thought we were innocent until proven guilty, and the police said he was innocent. (If, again neither of us truly know, he is innocent I just hate that all of this (the turning on him) will follow him, well forever. That is the internet.) I did agree that while the father did not send off bells to me because just because dad did something does not mean child will, but the fact sister also had an issue is very coincidental.
I did not hear about the lawyer and clock or police and clock. I will look for that story. :thumbsup

I have no doubt that the father is a wacko.

Hmmmmmmmmm, reckon he could Kim Davis's next husband?
Now there is a match made in media heaven.

Do we have a max number of wackos and crazy's allowed, because I am pretty sure that just in the last couple months we have exceeded any set limit for the year.

And that's not counting the people begging to be elected to government jobs.
