How many teachers knew and saw that it was a clock, before the cops were called?
No idea, but how many of us were in their place? And how well did they communicate between them? Did the other teachers send out a memo that it was just a clock?

Sometimes you have to try and put yourself in their place.

Why is the family refusing release of the interview video ? ? ?

:whistle
No way on God's green earth would I let an interview video of my child being interrogated out. NO WAY. I would bet most here would not either.

Why did the police not contact his parents or let him call his parents until after they interrogated him? That is (according to articles) against the law because he is a minor. The police have said they will look into the procedure they used.

The whole thing is, once again when we speak of schools, Muslims, gays, religion, and about 10 other things, ridiculous and blown out of proportion.

Umm, the family has not been shy about their son appearing on television.

They has given numerous interviews and press conferences... but suddenly
they refuse to release the basic details of the story ? ? ? Sorry not buying it... :girlsaysno
Seriously? I am sorry but I do not believe you would think that your child giving an interview with you around and an interrogation of your child the same thing.
It is not the basic details of the story HB. It is a 14 year old being interrogated. (and it being that the police found him having no intent to harm or alarm) No way should that be released.

That's because the video reportedly exonerates the police and school.

Do they want the whole truth out there ? ? ? It does not seem so...
Does it bring up something other than that day? That is what I got out of the mayor and her statement of records. The mayor that has issues with Muslims.
I would not under any circumstances as a parent let that video out or sign off to have my childs school records released. No way.

Which yes, it obviously can go both ways, some think it does look suspicious others do not. If the whole thing was handled better we would not be chatting right now. (about this anyway)

I'm not saying it couldn't have been handled better. Only that given all the factors involved; I can totally see why they reacted like they did.

We live in a scary world these days. It's a sad reality that we sometimes need to ere on the side of safety.

Thank you.
And there you have it.
The school screwed the pooch.

How do you have several teachers see this thing, then have the administration think it's a bomb, and not have a least one of those teachers say, "If that's little Mohamed's bomb, it's not really a bomb, it's really a clock."

I bet you dollars to donuts, this wouldn't have happened to Billy WASP.

That is one of the most ridiculous statements I've read, since I read about demon possession.

I think it's s valid.statement since virtually every school shooting has been by students who were not Muslim. Remember, they're not thinking shoe bombers and 9/11...they're thinking Columbine and Sandy Hook. The Columbine killers had set a number of bombs but they didn't go off.

You know what I think is interesting? Kids really do not relate to Columbine. It was actually either before they were born or they were little. They really do not get the fear and devastation we all felt or understand why many times adults overreact to things in school. They do not understand that something brought to school can be misconstrued and most think the policies on the books are too much (though I do too) and it is adults paranoid of something that happened long ago in a far away place....

Sandy Hook was not really a student, nor a student of the school, and since they only saw one line of kids be led around they do not get that one either. It is not the same as when, say my son, saw all the hundreds of kids outside the school at Columbine, all of the kids running out for their lives, the overwhelming sense of loss, crying,...I think the kids that witnessed that, get the overreach at times. They might not have liked it, but I think they could at least understand where people were coming from.
I was just putting that out there because you mentioned it and I did think it was interesting when it was presented to some staff at school.

Some are just skeptical and suspicious of Muslims in general. This is an area where in the last 6 months to a year there have been issues in the community against Muslims, and the mayor of the community did some kind of tour speaking of how bad Muslims are. (off the top of my head I forget the specific topic) So, in that respect I can see an overreaction of someone in this community against a Muslim quicker than Billy WASP. And for the fact that it was a "bomb" not a gun that made the reaction seem pointed.

Seems that the Muslim community in Irving has a longstanding beef with the mayor :

Checkout TX in general and that area of TX in particular, they are really anti anything to do with Muslims.

Heck, even on here it has been posted about Muslim kids being used as bombers.

Not sure how it's a hoax, if the teachers said that the kid showed them and told them it was a clock.
But could the dad have put the son up to it to stir up trouble, sure.
But the problem I have is how the school mishandled the situation.

Kid brings clock to school, teachers see and know it's a clock.
One even says, "Don't show that around".
Administration sees clock, gets told it's a clock.
Thinks it's a....bomb?
Evacuates the school....oh wait, they didn't.
So administrators really don't think it's a bomb, but call the cops anyway.
Cops handcuff kid for everyone's safety.

Now, let's look at that again.
Kid brings clock to school, teachers see and know it's a clock.
One even says, "Don't show that around".
And then says, "I better keep it here till after school".
End of story.

Or...
Kid brings clock to school, teachers see and know it's a clock.
One even says, "Don't show that around".
Administration sees clock, gets told it's a clock.
Administration checks with student's teachers who say he showed it to them.
End of story.

Administration sees clock, gets told it's a clock.
Evacuates the school....oh wait, they didn't.
So administrators really don't think it's a bomb, but call the cops anyway.
Cops see that it's a clock, administrators see that it's a clock.
They give kid back his clock.
Everyone goes home happy.
(except, perhaps dad, who didn't get the responce he wanted, because it was handled in a logical and common sense way)

If the school really thought it was a bomb, then the school acted negligently by allowing the "bomb" to remain in the school and the students and teachers to remain in the school, while the "bomb" was checked out.
That tells me that no one really thought this was a bomb.

If the dad did set this up, then the school administration and the cops couldn't have helped him out better in making his plan work.

Get rid of "policy" and bring back common sense.
