Personally I don't believe it has anything to do with genetics, I think it's a lifestyle choice people make for a variety of reasons. I won't force my views on anyone within my circle of influence who may be gay but in return I won't allow anyone to convince me to change my view on the subject. We all have free will and make daily choices of how we live our lives. Ultimately we answer for our choices.
:thumbsup Reasonable.

Hypothetically, what happens when the gene is fully discovered and you realize that people that are gay did not make a choice and they were born that way?
Wow I think that needs a s/o! :))

I would question the research which claims the discovery.

Why? Genetics plays a big role in determining your sex and your sexuality.

ETA: Actually, let me add this. Questioning it is probably going to be a natural reaction for everyone. But, I think if the evidence is there, we have to look at it. Does that change what the Bible says? No.

I've seen studies and research that tends to support both theories.

Sadly, there is far too much agenda in "science" today. Take Global Warming, for example. Several scientists admitted awhile back that the federal government pressured them to find data to support man-made global warming.

So yeah, I take most studies with a grain (or two) of salt.

Having said...certainly, some men are more feminine than others and some women are more masculine than others. Is that a contributing factor in homosexuality? Very possibly. But our actions are still a choice. We are all tempted of the flesh; yet most of us will agree that it is NOT alright to cheat on our spouses. We have all experienced the emotion of coveting what we don't; yet it is NOT alright to steal from those who do.

BUT, and this is my point, if it came out, it was indisputable, totally accepted it is from birth, how does that change your mind or thoughts about it being a choice? You did not have a choice of being heterosexual you just were, they are just homosexual. We are not talking about a temptation, but a fact that a girl like a girl in the same way a guy likes a girl. Why would they not follow nature if it is indeed a born trait they can not change like they can not change their eye color or height?

I seriously doubt that will happen. There will be attempts as such a revelation by people with an agenda, there already has been. But I don't think there's a gene that make us hetero either. I think it's mostly due to our anatomy and our environment. People with male parts tend to be attracted to people with female parts, and vice versa. I think environment is a huge factor. I know a gay guy that says he's gay because a friend of his big brother would taunt him with his (insert male part) when he was a little boy. That caused him to be fixated on it as he was growing up and his physical attraction grew from there. This is his own words.

I think the guy was just yanking your, um, chain.... :whistle

Good answer. :CLAP

Unfortunately I've had to end a long-time friendship after years of ministering to someone on another issue. It began to negatively affect my health and well-being, not to mention disrupt my family life. At one point the individual has to come to terms on whatever the issue is and decide if they're going to ever make a change.

Now, let's NOT discuss coffee addictions.... (As I get up to go get another cup).... :whistle

My chain would have been safely put away.

No, he swears this is what made him gay.

Not me.

Though I do have a rather strong connection to Coke Zero.

If they discover a gene that does indeed identify sexual preference I may re-examine my thinking. However, having been involved with some gene research myself, I don't think that will happen. I think we are all born with masculine and feminine tendencies, environment, nurturing and personal experiences while we are young can and do affect many things in our lives. Some of my best friends were boys and they liked playing with my Barbies and I liked playing with their GI Joes.

It will take some major convincing if they "find" that gene and can isolate it and better yet track it.

Very honest and open of you. That is all I wanted to know. If it was a fact. Traceable, track-able, a fact accepted by all doctors/scientists, would that make you rethink your position. :thumbsup

And when I run out I'm pretty sure the people around me get a glimpse of h*ll.

just sayin

To quote what my boss just said moments ago, "She's not usually this nice this early on a Monday."

For anyone who cares (and why you would I don't know) here are my thoughts on a couple of things that have been touched upon in this thread.

First, homosexuality.
Based on my experince with people who have said they are homosexual and my observations of other who say they are or were homosexual, I have come to the comclusion that there are differing reasons for people to say or be homosexual.

I have known people that tell me that they were sexually attracted to the same sex from the beganing and the thought of sex with the opposite sex has the same effect as having sex with the same sex does with most hetrosexuals.
So I believe that some people are born homosexual.
Not a lot, but some.

I think there are some who are confused in life, maybe don't fit in, maybe are rebelling, there are many reasons or possibilties, and they, for lack of a better way to put it, join the homosexual lifestyle.

The I think there are those who just want to have sex with whoever, however, whenever, you get the idea.

No matter which catagory the person falls into, no matter whether or not I agree with their life or actions, as long as it does not affect me personally or they ask me for my opinion, it is not my business.

My finished post went poof, NO, it was not the hwy, it was me, I hit some wrong button or something.

Anyway, as far as society is concerned, I feel that we should neither condem nor gloriefy these things.

As far as God is concerned and what I think his teachings are.
My relationship with God is a personal one.
One that is ever changing and growing and going backwards and changing and growing and going backwards and so on, because I am a flawed human being trying to get though life as best I can.

What I can do and what I cannot do, per my understanding of what God wants from me, has changed as my relationship with God has grown and changed.
So I have a hard time telling others what they should do or should not do.
I will, if asked, tell what I feel God wants me to do or not to do based on what I have learned.

Do I think that there are things that God does not want anyone to do or things that I think God wants everyone to do?
Yes.

In my opinion, God is love.
So God wants us to behave in a loving manner and behave in ways that will not hurt others.
I know that in my spiritual journey, there are things that I felt they were ok to do and I did them.
Then as my relationship with God grew, these things begain to cause me discomfort and they became something that I could no longer do.

I try and remember that as I watch others on their journey, for some are further than I am and some are not as far along.

I had a lot of interuptions while typing this, so I may have not made sense, but I am done for the moment.

I did want to add one thing.

While I do believe exactly what I wrote, that God is love and wants us to act loving towards each other.

If you were to follow me around some days observing my behavior and someone was to ask you at the end of the day, How does he believe God wishes him to act?
Your answer may very well be; "He believes in sarcasm and anger."

I wish it wasn't true and I do work on it.
