The 'Cutest Couple' This High School Didn't Expect

When 18-year-old Chelsea posted a photo of her classmates Brad Taylor And Dylan Meehan to her Tumblr blog this week, she did not anticipate the incredible response it would receive -- within 24 hours, the entry had been shared almost 100,000 times.

The image was taken from her high school yearbook, and she included this caption:

"Two of my best friends won Cutest Couple of our senior class. First time in my school history a same sex couple has even been able to run for this category, not to mention winning it. So proud of them, and my school."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/01/brad-taylor-and-dylan-meehan-cutest-couple_n_3372220.html

I think it is great that the student body recognized the cutest couple no matter what sex they are. BTW It does not say but this is the town of Carmel about 50 miles from New York.

I'm not impressed. I will not endorse what I believe to be wrong.

Okay, don't be.

I am impressed that teens are showing tolerance and acceptance of these young men. I do not know if they believe in their being together or not, but they do show that they can get past that and accept that they are a cute "long term" (for high school) couple.
It is a nice story of young gay teens that does not involve bullying or suicide. I like it. :thumbsup

If they believe it is wrong, they are in-conflict with those beliefs to "get past it".

Calling them the cutest couple is not showing tolerance, it is endorsing it.

I see many teens that do not agree with the gay lifestyle, but are very good friends with lots of gay kids. (you can ask RNG about this too) Voting for your friend is what you do in high school. (I know that was a really really long time ago, but it is what they do. :taunt )

I am also good friends with some homosexuals. I love them as the people they are.

But I won't endorse their type of sexuality because I believe it is wrong.

I am not talking about you. I am talking about teens voting for their friends. That is what teens do, they are friends first. They give them the vote, whether they are gay or straight. It really makes no difference to them. That is a good thing GD. I posted this because it had gone viral, as a good thing, not another case of bullying or a suicide.

Not supporting or endorsing that lifestyle doesn't make you a homophobe. :girlsaysno Perhaps staying true to your beliefs and having a strong conviction to support those beliefs is vastly misunderstood.

Do what you want, I have no problem with it. I won't put you down or tell you you are wrong, but I can't support it. I have people I love that are homosexual, but that's their thing not mine.

No different than being Catholic and letting Jews follow their beliefs. It's their right to do what they want in their bedroom, but please can you just sort of keep it to yourself. It just works better for me that way. I don't think I have to share my "stuff" with anyone but my partner.

What are you talking about? I am talking about KIDS in an article, voting for their friends, that just happen to be gay. They are not defining their friends by that, just voting for their friends.

Do you guys not see that an article like this where it is not bullying but something nice is a good thing? Would you rather I post one of those? There are far more of those articles than these. SMH

Not voting for that particular couple is not bullying.

Being gay in "in". It's fashionable, and there are powerful forces promoting homosexuality in this country. Most of this "virile" stuff you are seeing is simply kids following the fad of being gay. Kids don't always think with their heads, that's why they need adult leadership.

There was also a time when being pregnant in school as frowned upon. There was also a time when 13 year olds giving BJs in school was frowned upon. Those issues and this one too is part of the moral degradation that we're seeing in this country.

No, I don't think it's a good thing and I don't think it's great that the kids show tolerance for it. I am even more shocked that adults show tolerance for it.

Your language suggested that if kids didn't support this couple, they were bullying them. This is not the case.

I am shocked when adults who claim to follow a religious belief that says homosexuality is an abomination before God thinks things like this is a good thing. It seems that their is some conflict there.

I am shocked when adults who claim to follow a religious belief that says lying, divorcing, gossiping, sleeping around, and I could go on forever ....do and judge.

And this issue is totally separate from the other ones you mentioned.

The term "bullying" is being vastly overused. Disagreeing with, or even refusing to support, is not even close to bullying.
