Paula Deen fired from Food Network

I wonder if Oprah ever called a white boy a "cracker"........ever? OH, that's right....per Jessie Jackson, it's impossible for a black person to be racist. ::)

Remember I lived in Kentucky until I was 10. I anyone ever asked me what our first dog's (that I remember) name was........I won't get hired by Food Network. :soashamed

Paula Deen may be a diva, may be a *itch but I really don't think she's prejudiced. I saw a lot more of that in Chicago than I ever saw in Kentucky or Georgia.

Wonder how many Americans were killed because of her, how much she's covering up, how much she's lied under oath and how much tax payer money she's wasting??

A perfect example of how Americans are concerned about the wrong issues. :'(

Same here, except I lived in Smyrna. I was only 5 yrs old-ish. I didn't know there was anything wrong with the name of the dog, til we hired a maid and my sister and I were sat down and told the dog's new name was "Mutsy". :soashamed

I could care less but I'm glad at least one cooking show is now gone, can only hope others are soon to follow.

^^This^^

I really, really don't like cooking shows.

And now on Facebook, Smithfield has dropped Deen. Yes, the same Smithfield that sold out to the Chinese.

FOX 5 Atlanta

TMZ tweets: "Paula Deen has been DROPPED by Smithfield - a major pork company" Deen included a line of hams with Smithfield in her Paula Deen Collection. Smithfield to TMZ: "Smithfield condemns the use of offensive and discriminatory language and behavior of any kind."

Quite frankly, she should have dropped them when they sold out.

Do you think that Paula Deen is wandering around her house muttering; "D*** N******"?

(meant in humor)

You know, your words and actions have consequences. She admitted to using that word and now she has to deal with the consequences. As I told someone today, that is probably one of the most offensive words ever spoken.

I wouldn't say its one of the most offensive words out there. Hell, black folks throw it around like its cool so it can't be too offensive.

But she admitted using it ... when? How long ago was it? Last week? Last year? Ten years ago? And in what context and with whom? And why exactly is it so offensive for some people and not others? Of course it's not a word that should just be thrown around, particularly by old white folk in the south right ... but if there are times and places and people that it is ok with does it not also stand to reason that it could be taken out of context and blown totally out of proportion?

Food Network has every right to exercise their option not to renew her contract but her fans have every right to be ticked off at them for reacting before the whole situation has come out and is figured out.

Now can we please get back to real news? I must know what the Kardashian/West baby is wearing home from the hospital.

Reports say the baby is wearing a g string, little high heels, a "Kill Whitey" shirt and a pink fedora.

It doesn't matter when or where. She made a choice to use that word (as do a lot of folks). I'm simply saying that she has to face the consequences. I know a lot of people that use the word, especially old white southern folks. But, most of those people would openly admit that they also use the word and would deal with whatever the consequences were and wouldn't have their children out saying ignorant stuff like "she couldn't be a racist, she bought me Hank Aaron pajamas."

I hope the word queer doesn't ever get labeled the same way...........

Heck, choose any word and demonize it later in the future and then go back and persecute those who said it in a society that was much different from today. Sad.

That word has always been a word of hate and has never been acceptable to me. My father was very much a racist for most of his life, but even he was smart enough to acknowledge that the word elicited so much hate that he didn't want his children or his grandchildren to use it.

There are former members of the Nazi party who are still paying for their words and actions... And they too much accept those consequences.

The word is off limits at my house. However, when my son started middle school he came home asking why. He heard it daily at school, but not from white friends.

I don't defend racism ever. Having a negative reaction against someone for something a base as the color of their skin, something they have absolutely zero control over is wrong and just plain stupid ... but so is knee-jerk reactions to simple words without a full understanding of context. Though highly unlikely, let us assume that she was referring to times when she was hanging with her homies who throw the word around as though it were "like" or "ya know", as we've all heard is done ... why is it automatically wrong for her? And what if she is part of a mixed race group that is comfortable using the word in certain aspects of their conversations and they were overheard by someone else? Would it automatically be wrong? And why do we continue to give words such strength, regardless of context? I absolutely understand the history of the word in this country but I refuse to throw the baby, the bath water, and the tub out based on a few letters stuck together without any context or timeframe to go with it.

The word is wrong, regardless of who says it, in my opinion.

Paula said in her interview on Today this morning that she said it when she "had a gun pointed at her head." Really? You call someone that when they point a gun at you? And, when you have NEVER used that word in your life before so it's not even in your vocabulary? I've never been in that situation thankfully, so I can't say for certain how I would react, but I'm just not sure that I'm buying her story as the complete truth.

Here's the link to that interview: http://omg.yahoo.com/blogs/celeb-news/paula-deen-today-pick-stone-throw-125256884.html
