Paula Deen fired from Food Network

about stinkin time!!!!!

She was a nightmare to work with and I told folks years ago her actions were gonna come back and bite her in the butt

She was a chain smoking, cussing, crude DIVA! Her hubby was nice and was over apologetic for the way she was acting

The company that brought her in for the event I worked vowed never to have her again... That was 3 1/2 or 4 years ago

Her brother is also nice and we go to his restaurant every time we are in Savannah

Small correction. She wasn't fired, but her contract expires at the end of the month and will not be renewed.

I've read portions (but not all) of the transcript of her deposition which seems to be at the heart of all the controversy. I think the public is taking some of her words out of context.

She was supposedly not resigned because of comments she made "decades" ago ... How many people in her age group didn't make comments back then that are offensive and/or derogatory now? Ok, the black men as slaves wedding thing was bad but if there were black men willing to do it ...

Actually, when I first read others interpretations of the wedding, I thought it was pretty bad. Then I read that portion of the transcript that puts it a bit more in perspective. That's specifically the part I think is being taken out of context.

She references going to a restaurant that had all middle-aged, black males as the servers. These servers were impeccably dressed in white dinner jackets and bow ties. She mentions that would make a beautiful wedding, but that folks would take it out of context. (It now appears she was right.)

She discusses that the men performed their jobs very well and were very well compensated for a job they had been well-trained for and done for many years.

If I had to guess I would say that those that don't like her are performing a nice hatchet job on her but she'll take her fortune and go on to live out her days quite nicely.

From all I have read about the lawsuit the brother is worse than her.

I haven't read the lawsuits... I just know from personal experience

If every celebrity that was ever hard to work with was fired sadie there would be very few of them left. You'd be hard pressed to find a decent handful of them that hadn't been an a$$ at one point or another. And I agree with SD ... from everything I've ever heard her brother has been historical a much bigger jerk. But hey, I don't live my life for them or have to deal with them in any way that can't be fixed with a simple button push on the remote so I don't really have a lot invested in any of it. :)) :))

The lawsuit basically states he is a drunk, loud, harassing, male chauvinist and names many people as witnesses to it. (not just kitchen staff, but CEO's, company lawyers, hr, and say that they just told her you know how it is) This is in reference to Bubba and his GM for 5 years. (ending a few years ago, she quit)

I actually did not like her (Paula) or him (Bubba) when I went to eat at their respective restaurants (though the are all owned by her LLC) and they were there.

:)) I do not even watch her!

I do think she is getting a crappy deal from this, and I believe most agree with that. What are you going to do though? We all have said or done stuff in our past and at least she admitted to it. I think them not renewing her is over the top, but I guess it is their choice.

Honestly...can't really say I care.

Her show wasn't in 3D.
can we get you in 3d instead of 4 d..I wanna take the smell out of the picture

I must say I'm surprised that Food Network made this move. Somebody mentioned they might be leveraging it to get her $$$ down (that they pay her) and will renegotiate the contract at a later date. She has a huge fan base, and she's a lib, so I figured she was safe. I still think she'll be back.

I don't know about Uncle Bubba, but just paying close attention to her (and esp. when she had that party show on a good while back), you could TELL she was a vulgar sort of person. The Daily Mail, I think it was, ran a story about a year ago about an intro video she sent to a major food org for them to run before she spoke. They sent it back it was so bad.

I don't generally watch her. I much prefer Ina Garten.

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook. Just another perspective. ;)

After many trips to Savannah, we have eaten at Lady and Son's, Paula's restaurant there. Most of her help there are African Americans and all we talked to her staff and were told how wonderful she treats them. We
also talked to a African American woman there that knows Paula very well. She told us story after story of kind things Paula does for people there. The lady also does tours there and gave me her card and told me the first time she met Paula, she was invited into her home and treated like she had known her forever.

I don't have TV and I've never watched Paula Deen. I only know who she is because I see her name on the cooking pans at Alco.

But, I do have a little insight: companies are terrified of being painted as racist. If they are seen to do nothing about her, certain elements will claim that the company that produces her show endorses racism. This could threaten advertising. A food show network is not one that wants any kind of controversy.

Celebs and their sponsors/supporters have recovered from worse. The backlash from not renewing her seems to be pretty harsh right now and they do seem to have reacted a bit early. The suit isn't even settled yet. They could easily have worked out a temporary stay of execution, so to speak. I think she's a prime example of the ignorance of a lot of people of a region and generation(s) and I think FN jumped too soon in their reaction. And I think nobody wins in the end.

And I would love it if we could get back to things in the news that really matter. Like golly, did you all see that Kim and Kanye made their baby's name public?!!? :huh

Somebody please make it stop.

I have quite a few of her cookbooks, but rarely, if ever, watch her show. I respect any company that takes a stand that character does matter. But, like UM mentioned, the case isn't even settled yet.
