OK, guys, someone in here I KNOW can answer this question:

How much $$$ am I looking at for a speeding ticket on Bill Carruth today -- 64 in a 45 mph? Go ahead, slap me and give me the :p -- it's stupid on my part, and I sure don't need this!

Ok, so of course I have to point out the whole "speed trap" thing is not the proper terminology by technical definition. Speed traps are illegal and not at all what is going on there.

Okay. Speed traps are illegal and maybe not the correct terminology, but anyone that drives that road daily knows exactly what I mean. :dunno
Honestly, most cops I know just want folks to slow down. They'd much rather write a ticket, than work a wreck.

Obviously all police officers would rather do that, but with that said, I have had 3 friends get tickets for under 10 miles an hour on that road and so many have been pulled over people post daily where they are sitting. I mean when you get FB posts each day because so many people are being pulled over and for such small amounts, it leads people to believe there might just be something to it. :dunno Don't get me wrong, if you are flying through there, pull them over! I literally ride my break on that road because it is very easy to coast up over the speed limit. Again, I have much respect for law enforcement, I would not put my life on the line for some of these people out there, but sometimes things are as they seem. JMO of course.
Very heavily enforced does not equal speed trap.

It would be interesting to know the back-story on why they are so frequently there. Is it all on them or is there pressure from somewhere on this?

I do not know UM. I drive at different times of the day, night, weekday and weekend, and have never drove that road without seeing an officer, and more times than not they have someone pulled over. Sometimes numerous cars.

Funny ... because I drive through there multiple times/week and see deputies there less often than not. I do see them on the driveway near MacLand fairly frequently. Well, I did. Haven't seen them there in a while.

I also wonder what factors are at play when I see that more often than not, the deputies working that corridor are the DUI Task Force guys.

I tell our guys NOT to write anything under 10 mph.

Make a respectful request to the judge for the mph to be lowered. He/She can do it.

You know, for some reason I never see anyone going over 54 on that road. Could be the car I'm driving I suspect. :Ninja

Really? You are the first person I have heard say that! (It is not DUI that I see, except on weekend nights.) :dunno I just know every time it comes up the first place that is said is Bill Carruth.
I am not clued in to any factors at play. LOL I just know (literally from the posts people make) they are there.

Yeah, they are on Carruth constantly.

The road is fairly straight with few traffic lights or businesses; one of those roads that is just too easy to let your speed creep up on. I don't think most people intend to speed on the road, it just happens. And the police take full advantage of it.

Call it what you want, but it's a great place to write speeding tickets and boy do they.

Too funny.

Hey, wait a minute ... maybe they know I'm coming through and they leave. Should I take this personally? I think I'm going to go to my corner and cry now.

:)) Just call me when you are traveling and I will work my errands around you!!!

I've been through there at various times. Sometimes I see policemen, sometimes I don't. :dunno So far, I haven't been ticketed. :pray (thank you Lord)

But GD's statement brings me to another question. If the GSP writes the ticket, where does the revenue go?? Is it split between the county and GSP?? What about tickets written for accidents?? Since the GSP writes all of those, how does that work?

It goes to whatever jurisdiction they're in.

Yep ... goes to jurisdiction.

That ticket will run you somewhere around 170-180 bucks probably. A family member got a ticket on Bill Carruth about a month ago going 58 in a 45 and the ticket was 155.00 so I suspect yours will be slightly more. You don't have to wait 15 days either. It goes in their computer that night so you can probably look it up online by the citation number.

So the GSP isn't writing tickets to generate income for themselves. :goodjob I'd say that's pretty fair, how can it be a speed trap if it's not county or city writing the tickets??

I'm giving y'all fair warning now. If you go through Aragon, you better do the speed limit. Aragon's finest likes to keep their little town safe, I'm sort of on their side with this. ;D

Emerson, too.

I've heard that, too. Here's my take on this, if you're speeding and get caught you get a ticket. I try not to speed but have been guilty myself, mostly because I wasn't paying attention. I've been lucky, only got caught once in my life (knock wood), but I could get caught today or tomorrow or the next day. Who's fault would it be??

BTW, I've not seen sungoddess even once say she shouldn't have received the ticket, she just wanted to know how much it was going to cost her. ;) I love that woman. :love

Look, NO ONE said some do not deserve the ticket. SOME do. People that are getting tickets for 6 miles over the speed limit, ridiculous.

I'd have to question that 6 over ... unless it was written by GSP. (Still a weak ticket but at least I'd believe it was written.)
