NBA\'s first openly gay male athlete

don't know, but I bet most teams won't be packing it in down low anymore. I suspect they'll go to a more spread offense/defense but that may changed as well.

I don't know - this guy has been in the league for the past 12 years. I'm sure there will be players that have an issue with it, but I'm not sure that it will make a difference in how they play the game....

I couldn't care less what his sexuality is. What kind of basketball player he is does matter.

And I truly hope the media doesn't spend untold hours discussing his homosexuality.

I get so tired of hearing about things that don't matter (i.e. black candidates, women CEOs, etc.)

Let's talk about QUALIFICATIONS!

If I heard correctly, he's 38 years old. That makes him almost wheel chair age for professional sports. Of course if a team doesn't pick him up his age will not be the reason the NBA is blamed...oh nooooo. It will be suggested it was because of his "issue".

Maybe that's why he came out. :whistle

Actually, he's 34 and is still considered a good center and would be a good pick up for a lot of teams.

Then time will tell I suppose. I don't keep up with basketball much because it's predudice against white folks, but I'm thinking a California team will sign him.

Oh, that. As my neighbor says, you need to be a little more pacific. :laugh

Well, on the California thing...the folks on the left coast are very "out-there" in their support of this fella's lifestyle. Well, unless California fell into the ocean while I wasn't looking

The other thing about predudice. It's obvious because of the numbers. Isn't that what other people base predudice on? I say affirmative action is called for. As my English firends from across the pond would say, "Here, Here"! :laugh

Speak to Hank about it tipping over...

What numbers are you using? Some of the greatest players in the history of the NBA are white. (Larry Bird, Steve Nash, McHale..just to name a few) Your statement is not one based on fact. Yes, during periods (70's stick out to me) it was predominantly black, but overall history does not show white prejudice. I will say there are many very good players that just happen to be black. Like IF said, it is their qualifications and what they can do on the court, not their sexual preference or color.

Yes, I thank my husband and his vast knowledge of basketball for my random knowledge of players. :)) I knew I had him around for some reason! :laugh

I have no doubt your numbers are FAR better than mine since I pay hardly any attention to the "game" at all. I just figured I'd throw out an empty argument like so many minorities have done it the past. Everyone seemed to buy the BS when they were slinging it around.

I hate the BS numbers on either side. It is very infuriating.
