Has anybody checked out the list of local candidates?

Where can I find info on a candidate? When I pull up the name I get real estate. :dunno

Depends. Which candidate? Maybe some of us can send you in the right direction.

Todd Pownall

His website he had at one time is down now. (www.ToddPownall.com) I know he has done some good things for the county, some things I do not like, and other things I am perplexed with the methods. (not like or dislike just the how.) He is against the airport (I am not speaking for him, that is all over, and he has spoke at meetings.) I have met people that love him and some others that have stated that they don't. :dunno

I plan on emailing him (Todd.Pownall@paulding.gov) this week and asking some questions that I have. I believe that might be your best way to get information on where he stands for things that specifically matter to you.

A few people have posted about him and to me those opinions help also.

And once again...Diva shows her Divaness!! Thank you for the info. Heck, I'm against the airport myself. I live pretty close to it. :girlsaysno

Yes, please. If anyone knows Tony Crowe I would love to see him discuss a few issues here.

The post 4 residents need more information, as we have a pretty interesting race this year.

Let me just say this. You can be the nicest guy in the world and completely wrong at the same time. I also don't care if a candidate thinks he's doing what he thinks is, right. Obama and Pelosi think they are right. Pat thinks they are too. He won't be getting my vote.

Sent from a small screen using fat thumbs.

You're not in his district, are you?
:)

My post wasn't so much about politics, but rather about two men who I know somewhat.
I love my wife, but the list of offices that I would vote for her on, is a very short list.
And I think she is one of the best people I know.
(but she is waaaaaaaayyyyyyy to liberal to get my vote in most cases)
I should have said he WOULDN'T be getting my vote.

Everyone is just talking about what a nice guy he is and like you say that means nothing in an election.

Sent from a small screen using fat thumbs.

Agreed. Met him twice…both times a very pleasant experience…but then again, Jimmy Carter seemed like a nice feller too, so…..there you have it.
EXACTLY! JC is a very nice man, probably one of the nicest most genuinely caring people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. But I would NEVER vote for him.

I think it's a good time to address this...

As most of you know, DallasHwy has a general policy of not being critical to the other local website or it's members by name.

However...since Mr. Hughes is now a candidate for public office, he does open himself to a certain amount of public scrutiny. But in the spirit of this forum, I would ask that we remain civil and respectful in our discussions, and try our best to be factual.

Please avoid personal attacks and mudslinging. Let's keep DallasHwy the high road.

Thank you,

Admin

Should we refer to him as Mr. Hughes? :D Good thing I'm not post 2, because it would still require that freezing option. :D

Thankfully, there are other choices for those in Post 2. I think generally Pat Hughes is a decent guy, although a bit looney. Hell would have to freeze over before I voted for him for anything.

Great. I respect your opinion so the list is getting smaller. I feel that same way about another candidate. :))

His online persona and personal opinions are very close in line. He's less abrasive in person (that's why I called him a decent guy). But, he has said things to me personally online that I can't forget and were uncalled for. But, that's just me. Your mileage may vary. He's been cordial, but reserved in person.

Todd is not opposed to the airport, he is opposed to how the entire deal was done and he and the citizens were shut out. The airport lies in Post 2, every other commissioner was in on the deal but him. While some people want to say he knew about it, David Austin admitted in a BOC meeting he was intentionally left out because he "couldn't be trusted". That is as far from the truth as the supposed e-mail sent to him about the commercialization. Video exists of both of those BOC meetings where those claims were made and proven to be false. Open Record Requests are your friend.

He ran on a platform of open, honest and transparent government. He believes citizens should have input it something that effects their quality of life and their wallets. We were promised a general aviation airport, the people in Todd's Post want a general aviation airport. He is the only incumbent that has followed though with his campaign promises. He's listening to his constituents and is opposed ONLY to commercial/passenger airlines. He is not opposed to a successful general aviation airport.

He wants jobs, he wants industry, he wants to work for and with the people. Don't believe me, talk to him yourself, his phone number is 678-859-0301. Don't take anyone's work for it, find out yourself.

I have talked to Tony Crowe, Vernon Collett, Todd Pownall and a few others. They are all fine men but I want my representative to represent me, not have a personal agenda. Just because you aren't in someone's district, it's important to understand where they stand, their vote affects the entire county.

Some of the stuff I have read on the internet just disgusts me. I can't believe that a person running for office would think there are enough idiots out there who would vote for such stupidity. Amazing.

This strategy has been keeping the Democrats in power for a good while now.

Just for the record, my post above was in fun.

I am quite sure Mr. Hughes is a good man, it's just that our political beliefs are very different.

So are your personalities...

I'm in the midst of listening to the speakers from the meet & greet last night. So far, let me say that I'm really glad I don't live in Post 2. I'm hoping if I keep listening, it will get better. :cantbelievemyeyes

On the up side, I think we have a couple of good choices for Post 3. I would have liked to hear Maxwell and Bond speak even though I'm not in their district.

This was only set up for Post commission races, not for state races. If we let Maxwell and Bond speak, we would have had to let everyone speak and sent them invitations. We may have an opportunity to do that at a later date.

I think they all did an awesome job, running for office is not an easy thing to do. It was only to introduce themselves to the public so people knew who they were. That was all it was.

I was impressed they took time out of their busy schedules to attend and talk to the voters.

I will say I'm glad I'm in Post 2 and will have an opportunity to vote for Todd Pownall. I'm also glad to hear where each of the candidates stand because if they sit on the BOC, they're votes do effect me.

BTW, this was a citizen effort, no group "sponsored" this event. Kerstin Liberty and I, put this together ourselves, paid for out of our pockets. None of the candidates, any arm of any party or the church was involved in with the planning or execution.
