Has anybody checked out the list of local candidates?

In reality, Pubby and I do agree on some issues; however, he is a lot more liberal than I am when it comes to other issues. I do wish him well (and anyone who runs for public office, for that matter). This may be just the representation that Post 2 needs. He says that he will listen to the folks in that district. Hopefully, if he is elected, he will serve them well.

Now, HB - start talking girl. We need to liven this board up a bit!

He will listen to those that agree with him... the rest are a bunch of "knuckle draggers."

:Stick

Really? That is not anything I heard today and I spoke with a couple people. (I do not know him, nor anything about him except his runs a board, so I asked around.) Are you speaking of him personally or his online persona? I know that many of us are quite different in real life. ;D

He has referred to the opponents of airport commercialization as "knuckle draggers" no less than four times.

Pubby listen to his constituents...Hahaha. what world are you all living in? Btw, I'm curious, what exactly do some of you agree with pubby on. I'm very curious to hear this. I've been on that board for years and I don't think I've ever nodded yes to anything he had to say.

As a candidate or in the back and forth stuff? I ask because I was told of some stuff posted by others that IRL I am positive would not be as snarky or mean as they have come across with some of this airport stuff. IDK. I do not know him, I am just trying to get input on Post 2 candidates.

:dunno Do you know him? Or are we just talking board persona again?

Seriously I spoke with a couple people today that said he was pretty liberal but listened and wanted growth in the area. I respect the people that spoke to me in that they were not just trying to "sell" him. One is actually "friendly" (not friends) with another on the ballot and I do not know of them being friends with Hughes.

Anyone that does agree with some of what he says, could you post what that is? You can be general and not specific.

I think it's a good time to address this...

As most of you know, DallasHwy has a general policy of not being critical to the other local website or it's members by name.

However...since Mr. Hughes is now a candidate for public office, he does open himself to a certain amount of public scrutiny. But in the spirit of this forum, I would ask that we remain civil and respectful in our discussions, and try our best to be factual.

Please avoid personal attacks and mudslinging. Let's keep DallasHwy the high road.

Thank you,

I personally know Todd Pownell and Pat Hughes.
I know Todd a little better than Pat due to Todd and I having kids in the band together.

I have no reason to doubt Todd or what he says, I have always known him to be as honest as the next person, maybe a little more so.
I know that Todd has personally done a lot to help people that he never wanted to be known.
I only know about some of it because I was blessed to be a small part of it at times.
He truly does, at least in my opinion, care about people.
BTW, his wife is a lovely and nice lady also.

I have spent at least 8-10 hours with Pat, just talking about this that and the other thing.
I have always enjoyed his company and his sense of humor.
Yes, he has a good sense of humor, although it doesn't come across on the the internet as well as in person.
He is able to laugh at himself and I think that tells a lot about a person.
Yes, he leans to the left, but he and I have still been able to find a lot of common ground.
He is not shy about his opinion and where he stands and that is also good, even if I disagree.
I personally do not know of a negative about Pat.
Many dislike the way he handles his board, but then again, that is a tough tightrope to walk.
(as I am sure the mods on here will attest)
I am not always happy with how things go there or here, but I do feel that everyone is trying to do their best (here and there) and I try and keep in mind that I may not always know all the details of what is going on.

Anyway, that is my 2 cents on Pat and Todd.
If I was in Post 2, I would tell you who I would vote for, but as I am not I will keep quiet on that.
But I will say that I donated to Todd's campaign when he ran the last time.

Let me just say this. You can be the nicest guy in the world and completely wrong at the same time. I also don't care if a candidate thinks he's doing what he thinks is, right. Obama and Pelosi think they are right. Pat thinks they are too. He won't be getting my vote.

You're not in his district, are you?
:)

My post wasn't so much about politics, but rather about two men who I know somewhat.
I love my wife, but the list of offices that I would vote for her on, is a very short list.
And I think she is one of the best people I know.
(but she is waaaaaaaayyyyyyy to liberal to get my vote in most cases)

As someone that does vote in post 2 I appreciate your input StRadial. I also agree with LTD. I do not always vote for the nice guy, but I do try to vote for the person I think will be best for the position and where I stand on local issues. I am completely undecided on these candidates...okay one is a no way, but that still leaves a few I must try to figure out who I agree with most. :)

I should have said he WOULDN'T be getting my vote.

Everyone is just talking about what a nice guy he is and like you say that means nothing in an election.

I'm sure that Mr. Hughes is a very nice guy in person... the man who runs that board is a different story.

I have been a faithful reader over there for almost 10 years now. In that time I have witnessed too many
disparaging and disgusting attacks, on folks who do not share his political beliefs, to even count them all.

Out of respect for the integrity of this board I will get not into the details or specifics of the numerous incidents.

I will say that the behavior I have personally experienced was petty, vindictive, and fundamentally dishonest.
I have watched folks of good character slandered, insulted, and labeled with hateful epithets they did not deserve.

I have an excellent memory with near total recall and that leaves me in the unique position of a cumulative distrust.
I wish him well in his personal endeavors, but a representative must respect ALL of his constituents, not a select few.

Because of this consistent and troubling pattern of behavior, I must oppose his candidacy on the grounds that his politics do not represent
the prevailing political views of most residents and in the past he has used awful pejoratives to describe the "brown shirt" folks of Paulding.

Thank you for your insight. I know I personally do not need specific incidents, but an understanding of opposition or agreement with the candidates from those that know them. This specific candidate is definitely across the board with opinions of him :)) , though I have found that with one other one running in this particular race too. I appreciate you posting. :thumbsup

Where can I find info on a candidate? When I pull up the name I get real estate. :dunno

Agreed. Met him twice…both times a very pleasant experience…but then again, Jimmy Carter seemed like a nice feller too, so…..there you have it.

Depends. Which candidate? Maybe some of us can send you in the right direction.
