That was a real douche bag move, Teddy should have just stayed home.
The pledge was "signed" well before the campaign battles began. The RNC and supporters have spoken, they didn't want a strict conservative or a party elite. In my opinion, Cruz made a fatal mistake and was already in the news this morning giving a speech doubling down on his decision.Trump attacked his wife and father. I don't blame him at all for refusing to honor the pledge. In fact, I respect him more.
And Trump saw Ted's speech in advance so he knew there wasn't going to be an endorsement.

Showing to me that Trump knew exactly what he was doing. Cruz dug the grave...Trump gave him the shovel.
So Trump is more interested in getting revenge on and damaging Cruz than winning the election?
I have no idea where that came from. It was Ted's decision about what to say. He could have just as easily said that it was a heated primary and we have a lot of fences to mend, but I'm a man of my word and support Trump for president. If I wasn't going to do that, I would have respectfully declined to speak. No, this wasn't about Trump or winning this election at all. It was the first Cruz campaign speech for the next run. Some people are more interested in not allowing an Obama 3rd term than they are in trying to slip up a rival for the candidacy and promote their own future campaign.
I don't just "put the Pledge" aside though, it was the first issue of the campaign trail and everyone skewered Trump over his reluctance to agree. Cruz was one pushing the issue back then and now has proven himself to be no different than any other politician.....a liar of convenience and, of course, lying with full justification. Campaigns are battles with nothing off-limits...don't come to the battle with cheap armor and don't whine when you lose.I'm gonna stick up for Cruz on this one.
The "pledge" aside; he's doing what he's always done, which is what I admire him for. He's sticking to his principals. Cruz was the true conservative of the candidates for POTUS. His record has been one of consistent conservatism, and he stuck to his values even when that put him at odds with the Republican party, which was often.
Trump is not a conservative. His policies are all over the place as ideology goes. He will grow the size and scope of government, which is one of the things conservatives typically oppose.
Trump made some rather nasty attacks on Cruz and his family during the primary. And as I have pointed out here before; Trump was behind many of the blogs and fake news sites that were perpetuating the vicious attacks and rumors on Cruz. Even the one where Cruz frequently used prostitutes. There was never a shred of evidence came out to support these claims. So Cruz has every right to be upset with The Donald.
Now, I will likely vote for Trump, but only because it appears that he's the ONLY candidate that has a chance at keeping Hillary out of the big chair. But if by some miracle, and it would certainly be a miracle, Gary Johnson is able to get his numbers up to where he could actually win; I could easily jump over and vote for him. Yes, I know that this is probably a statistic impossibility; but I'm holding the option open. Why? because I would be voting my conscious.
It's really a shame Cruz was such a terrible candidate. He might made the best president.
So Trump is more interested in getting revenge on and damaging Cruz than winning the election?
My point is that Trump knew well in advance that Cruz wasn't going to endorse during the speech. If Trump's main priority was to win in November he could have simply denied Cruz from making a speech. Instead, he allowed it knowing full well there would be backlash against Cruz. What does Trump gain from that? It hurts him since it shows the still large segment of conservative voters that don't like and likely won't support Trump but at least he got to get some form of revenge on Cruz.
Cruz is more interested getting revenge for his butthurt fweelings than winning the election ? ? ?
Correct, he did not say he wouldn't support him and he did urge people to vote their conscious. I would have no issue with Cruz at all had it not been spoken from the floor of the RNC convention. In my opinion he only gave more fuel to the MSM and to HRC, they will capitalize on his misjudgement. He would have been far better to just admit differences, admit defeat, and then give his support AND endorsement. It's no different than Obummer not saying, "Islamist Jihadist" while describing certain obvious terrorists.I didn't see his speech, and I haven't read the whole transcript. But did he actually say he was not supporting Trump? What I read was that he just stopped short of it, and encouraged people to vote their conscious.
So technically, he did not break his promise. Only implied, at the most.Correct, he did not say he wouldn't support him and he did urge people to vote their conscious.
