Some truth in the Bee's reporting:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Amid record discontent around the economy, inflation, and education, the Republican Party has narrowly managed to stave off what many thought would be a record-breaking red wave.

"This was a close call," said one Republican leader in Washington. "We were worried that we would achieve massive victories tonight, but we thankfully snatched defeat from the jaws of victory to achieve a much more proper and sensible red trickle, like the proper gentlemen we are."

Some Republicans achieved major victories, which were largely ignored by party leadership due to the fact that those Republicans were loud and icky "MEGA-MAGA" culture warriors. "Ron DeSantis won by double digits, and frankly, we find that quite uncouth," said a D.C. consultant while holding up a glass of red trickle victory champagne. "Everyone knows the key to being a good Republican is to muddle your message and make it really squishy so no one knows what you stand for and everyone will like you. Duh!"

Everyone in the room then golf-clapped politely.

At publishing time, Republican strategists were researching ways to keep their power in D.C. without achieving so much power that they'd actually have to become compelling leaders.

The GOP needs to put some major effort into finding out what has changed and made it so hard for them to win elections. The number of people voting since COVID hit is way up. While I that is is a good thing in general, I'm not convinced it's on the up and up. I still think mail-in voting has been successfully perverted by the Democrats increase their voter turnout, and that not all of it is coming from real people who are making their own decisions.

Stuff like what is happening in Arizona and Pennsylvania is completely unacceptable given today's technology, and the people of those states need to demand better.

If we don't fix this mess, the Democrats will keep winning.

I think its a combination of the democrats learning how to motivate their base to get out to vote (even if it's with lies), the GOP having too many candidates trying to use the Trump Train and not campaigning on their own and the media using the "Red Wave" inaccurate polling to keep GOP members from being motivated to go to the polls.

As you noted, the polls for the GA race were all OVER the place, and it turned out to be a tie. So... who was lying and why?

I'm getting a little worried about the House. There is a chance the Democrats could remain in power.

In a way that may be good, the libs will be emboldened (and pushed by the squad) to some more wild and out there stuff and the GOP can hopefully capture congress AND the presidency in 2024.

If the GOP had house and senate this election, the Dems would motivate their followers in 2024 with "The GOP stopped us from doing xxxx" (where xxxx is whatever that fringe group wanted done.

Sorry but I see it as the typical GOP / Republican results. Nothing exciting, nothing drawing voters...just relying on people to vote "against" what the Dems are doing. Not going to attract young voters that way and not going to convince undecided, at least not until we're already over the cliff.

Historically, Democratic turnout for mid-terms is a lot less than it is for presidential elections. The Dems did a good job using Trump and his endorsed candidates to fire up their base and to get them to the polls. They used guilt by association to make their base believe the Republican candidates were a threat to "democracy," especially those endorsed by Trump. This is a good example of why Trump would not be able to win in 2024 against a Democrat opponent.

The enthusiasm among conservative voters for Trump is not near what it was when he ran in 2016 either. That's why his candidates are struggling. Notice in Georgia how Walker received far fewer votes than Kemp received and the Libertarian candidate for Senate received 2.1% of the vote. I wouldn't be surprised if most of them normally voted Republican and just weren't excited by Walker. Face it, Walker is a terrible candidate.

This says it all. Now apply that to the other 54 states and imagine what the real results are.

The question is what are we going to do about it. The answer is blame Trump.

(No, I haven't personally vetted this claim. Yes, I deliberately typed 54 to see who is actually reading it)
