save or throw away

I love asparagus like that too!
I usually do asparagus like this:

lightly saute in butter then light sprinkling of parmesan cheese and under the broiler for a minute or 2

The dogs get the bacon grease usually......they have very nice fur coats.

We don't eat bacon that often, although, I have found Applewood Bacon and that is delicious!!!

We sprinkle with parm and put it on the grill. I didn't think of saute and broiler. Good idea. (though I saute in olive oil, not butter.)

I used to save bacon grease, but decided it was rather gross so I quit doing that a number of years ago. My mom still saves it but I have no idea where she keeps it...prob in a bacon grease jar near the stove.

Here's what I can't seem to throw out...Folgers coffee plastic containers. For some strange reason, I feel compelled to wash those and keep them in a cabinet. I guess I'll find a use for them one day. (A bit off topic, I know)

switch to Kcups lol

what did you do with the grease when you saved it?

I used it to season green beans, cornbread and fry stuff in. I don't fry anything anymore though. Now I use a little drop of olive oil & chicken broth in my green beans...and I just use olive oil in the pan for cornbread. One day all those coffee containers will come in handy, just don't know what for yet. LOL

I thought when I heard of people cooking things like green beans with bacon grease :sick they fried up some bacon and used the grease. I had no idea they used old grease.

It flavors green beans and makes them taste like they were cooked in HEAVEN! We save it for beans, cabbage and to cook with eggs. MMMMMMMmmmmmmm! :DN
Or you can go with steamed and actual green bean flavor that taste great and then a vegetable is not going to clog your arteries. Just saying. :))

I had some unsnapped green beans, blanched once and they were absolutely delicious!

Ugh. I hate frying things, lol. Last time I used my fry daddy was about 2 weeks ago. First time in about 2 years. I was craving some homemade French fries in olive oil. They were sooooo good, but it was sooooo gross. But, I learned a new trick! If you spray your fresh cut potatoes with a little bit of Pam and bake them for about 20 mins they are reallllllly good. Next time I'll coat them with a tiny bit of EVOO.
