Electric vehicles....

Rivian has surprised a lot of people at how soon they produced their truck. It's available now, and all the reviews have been very positive.

Here's my dilemma...

A buddy of mine who is a banker and a financial guru has an EV and he sings the praises of it. Claims his fuel costs for 2-3 months is about $14, after the cost of the vehicle and installing a fast charger in his house. But, he uses it as a commuter vehicle and it probably makes sense.

I want to buy a new truck in 2022 (company vehicle), but I live like 5 minutes from work, so my fuel costs are minimal. Add to that, wife's Denali is getting some miles on it and we want to do some traveling, but would probably use the new truck since the Denali is racking up miles.

The traveling is the issue...the infrastructure just isn't there to support traveling without lots of pre-planning and using certain routes. WE hope to travel more if the WuFlu settles down. And, the business buys my gas. OK, a percentage of it still kinda comes out of my pocket, but again, it's not a lot.

I can't see any scenario where an EV would work for my needs just yet. If I drove 30 mins to an hour per day to commute, then yeah it would make sense. But the numbers just don't work for me.

Speaking of electric vehicles, this is great news for Georgia.

Just another example of the stupidity of the "butt hurts" running Perdue against the incumbent governor of a state with one of the best economies in the country. Kemp will beat Perdue in the primary based on his merits as governor unless the "butt hurts" mobilize and the thinkers stay home. Perdue has no record to run on against "Mommy Klump". Regardless of his Gomer Pyle appearance Kemp's record is strong with real facts to back it up. Including his refusing to break the states laws by interfering in the last election. He should get credit for standing his ground and not caving into tremendous pressure at home and from the executive office nationally.

But....but.....but....Trump doesn't like him so he has to go!!!!

Dad had a pretty good combo, being retired. EV for around town driving, shopping, visiting us, church, etc. then he would take the Prius on the road, 50 MPG.

Of course, I'd have to have my truck too, dad had a small trailer he pulled behind the Prius for dump runs, large purchases, but I like my truck.

To me, the main reason to get an EV right now is the insane acceleration that some of them have. I don't drive enough (and even less next year) to care that much about gas prices.

There's no real reason to be scared of any "Butt Hurts" is there? The old RINO GA GOP has it all under control. Just keep voting for who we push.

Regardless of how flawed the system is you have to play the game to win. Someone voting or not voting because they are mad that their idol got beat is an absolute ignorant non-productive stance. Being butt hurt costs us two senate seats and may cost us a governor. Warnock and what ever the Yankee guys name is were horrible candidates and could not have been elected if blow hard DJT had not pouted and gave orders to his minions to stay home. SOS stats confirm this. I have no ties to either party or candidate but I vote for the person (group) that most closely complies to my beliefs. And yes the Old RINO GOP is doing a pretty damn good job in Georgia (not so much nationally). Georgia is one of the most conservative states when it comes to civil law, has one of the best economies in the country and has one of the most pro 2nd amendment constitutions in the country. DJT accomplished nothing that was built to last he did everything with executive orders because he could not bully or bribe the system like he can is his robber baron world. Damn near everything he accomplished was wiped away with the stroke of Uncle Joe's pen because DJT was ignorant to how our constitution works like it or not. He was totally ineffective with any policies of substance. He could not get a jay walking law through congress. Facts are facts.

Then why all the worry? If what you state is true then old Kemp will be a shoe-in. Heck, if not enough republicans turn out to vote for him in the primary he can just ask Big Snags her secret for how she pulled off the 2am vote count miracle.

Evidently lots of people are scared of the “butt hurts”:

I find that as utter nonsense. Let free politics run as free markets and may the best candidate win. If idiots stay home…they’re still idiots.

My wife has a Camry that's a great "little" car. It gets well over 30 MPG and is ideal for her. But for me, it's like riding in a tin can. I have to squeeze into the seat, nearly giving myself a headache from smacking my noggin crawling in and out of it. I'm ready for her to upgrade to an SUV or even extended cab pickup truck, but right now, it's just an awful time to purchase. I just don't see myself in an electric vehicle. I'd like a new F-350 King Ranch dually with a powerstroke diesel, but I just don't see that happening anytime soon.

GD may not remember but when the Queen and I moved to Atlanta we had an old mini van and a Geo Metro. She drove the van with the kids and I had the pleasure of driving a Geo Metro. The Metro got dang near 50 mpg but of course it had no A/C. It was a two-door 3-cylinder can-of-death but I drove to Rome and back daily for a year in it until we moved the office to Smyrna. I finally traded it for a used Ram if I recall correctly. I miss that car sometimes (mainly when fueling up the F250).

Your wife and I would get along great... I like driving a sedan.

Yes, it is a horrible time to find a car to purchase.

Be careful what you wish for:
1). Those big long buggers a pain in the butt to park in places like Home Depot and Lowe's,, (where else would you be going??)
2). Those dually flairs will hit everything you forgot about like mail boxes, garage doors and rub rails at the drive thru,, just sayin!
3). They are so tall that you can't pull up and get your mail out of the mail box, you have to stop two feet away and get out of the truck.
4). The only good Powerstroke no longer exists. They have since had a series of three diesels, none of which measure up to the old 7.3.

We live in sad times.

I actually prefer our Toyota Rav4. As an older person (74), it is very easy to get in and out of without having to do a deep knee bend and the cargo area is easier to access than a trunk. It handles well and the 6 speed auto will really accelerate when needed and still get 22 mpg.
At some point I realized that practicality takes precedence over pride. I then bought a used F150 short bed club cab for trips to the dump and Home Depot,,, best part of this truck is that it doesn't use Government Juice.

5). All new diesels require Government Juice (DEF).

Imagine driving down the road and you spot an EV on the side of the road and sitting beside it is a gas powered Honda generator being used to charge the batteries.
It's been known to happen.

I'd feel better about EVs if they have a back-up of some sorts, like a small gas or diesel engine.
