I really dislike that ad, every time I see it I cringe. Not that it’s not true, I just don’t like the fear mongering any better than the similar ad of the other side.
Long story, but I called the police on a Monday, then Tuesday, then Wednesday... gave up after that - each day I worked over 12 hours, but the police could not come even given 12 hours. The dispatcher would call every 4 hours or so and update that they had not forgot about me, but they were on calls where peoples lives were in danger. I understood, but still 36 physical hours, three days, no police.
Turns out the police were looking for these thugs (who had broken into hour hotel rooms.) The police went to the crack hotel (where I had given their security guard photos to be on the lookout) he pointed the police to me. Friday 6 police officers, (3 squad cars, with 2 officers each) came into my hotel. I said I was so glad to see them, they gave me an odd look.
They asked if there had been break-ins to rooms, storage units, or cars? I had pictures and info as well as two suitcases with identification (and drug stuff) that they had left in the room, as well as pictures of them breaking into rooms.
Long story, but the criminals came back Monday to pick up the suitcases, I called the detective assigned to the case who said they would come arrest them. There were riots that had just started again Monday, and the detective investigating the case said she had no one to send (as the criminals sat in my lobby as I stalled.)
So yeah, the commercial is a reality already for me... it's real... it's not made up. Buy a gun. Live in suburbia where it is safe.
