Braves 2022

Chipper Jones played Shortstop for a while, 3rd base, even 1st base and left field...could the Braves possible keep Freddie and put him in another position? possibly left field? I doubt it, but maybe Freddie can stay. stay tuned,,,,

I don't think Freeman could play any other position but 1st/DH. He lacks the speed and the arm to play outfield. I don't think he is quick/agile enough to play infield even though he obviously has a good glove. If Freddie had of wanted to stay he could have negotiated a contract that allowed him to be paid within caps. He is human and he is just as greedy as most players. He is from California so I can see him on the west coast. Olson is 4 years younger than Freeman. I find it hard to be loyal to any club when the players constantly change and have no loyalty to the clubs themselves.

I like Freddie and think he is better than Chipper ever was, but it may very well be that he hit his peak last season (a season in which he did well, but not absolutely fantastic.) My hope for the Dodgers or whoever pays him a King's Ransom is that Freddie turns out to be an expensive fart in the wind. It would serve them right!

Freddie may be running out of options. The Yankees signed a 1B yesterday so, presumably, they are no longer in the market. Someone will still pay him a ton of money, but it may not be what he has been hoping for.

I'd still think long and hard about moving to CA, even for 16 million a year.

Figure 12% State taxes and 37% Federal and he's down to 8 million a year and will still need to pay for his security in LA.

Nope.

It's over 6 years so the average is $27 million per year. It has been reported that the Braves offered 5 years for $140 million which is $28 million per year and he turned it down. I guess the 6th year was pretty important to him or he just didn't really want to come back to the Braves.

Or he (or his agent) overplayed his hand and hoped he could leverage offers from LA and other teams to get the Braves to go to 6 years. Unfortunately for him, the Braves didn't wait around to play that game.

I suspect the latter. When you figure in the extra 6% of state taxes CA vs GA, he's getting 25 M in LA vs 28 M in ATL. Plus the higher Cost of Living of CA.

Why pick that? Unless he figures LA to be in the World Series much sooner than the Braves will be.

They overplayed their hand.
