Email friend sent along his thoughts (wish I could take credit for this wisdom... grin):
On this Helsinki summit, I noted Trump mentioned he was willing to take some political hits to get his agenda for some sanity done.
That might be a key remark that the chattering classes might have missed.
I think (and I hope I am right), that news conference was meant for public consumption only. Nothing to be gained by coming off all bad-ass and make Putin look weak to his country, he would have to come back all bad-ass, and a major confrontation could result. I think what counts is what was discussed without any potential leakers in the room. And, I notice neither he nor Putin are saying.
In private, he could well have said "we know your people/agencies pulled that stunt during 2016, perhaps without your direct knowledge (a face saving gesture). I just don't want to see the same action for 2018, or there will be a response you will not like. There just are too many issues for this nonsense - nukes in hands of unstable regimes, terrorist attacks, Iran in Syria that could well cause an Israel-Iranian fight - which we would side with Israel. Need to work to solve these issues in a way nobody loses face."
We'll see in coming weeks and months if I am right or not.
They sure as hell didn't spend hours discussing tea and crumpets. That private meeting didn't drag out as long as it did for nothing.
IMO, need to give Trump the benefit of a doubt... until both sides of the story come out and we see what really happened, as well as the fake news is proven or dis-proven.

JawJa comment...
Ya know...
Last week there was a report that broke at a curious time (timing, just before the trip to the summit)...
And there were folks from the opposition (left, DEM, MSM, etc)... who got up on their usual self-righteous (pompous would be a better description) pedestals and scorned Trump... saying he should not go to the summit.
And of course the pundits screamed all that one sided obstructionism from the mountain tops ALL WEEKEND!
IMO... this smells like:
The insiders knew Trump was gonna accomplish something against their agenda (remember, the agenda of the left is not friendly to a traditional constitutional America)...
So, as usual, they set up a media campaign to attempt to manage/mold public opinion.
Now the following comment is not pointed at anyone...
However IMO... when someone (anyone) reacts to a soundbyte... without FIRST researching BOTH SIDES of the story...
IMO they are, by choice (yeah, it is an easy choice to make), falling prey to being a sucker of the left... and maybe even a slave of the MSM.
Now personally... I would not want to be a sucker or slave...
Probably best to stop here...
Before this starts to sound like a rant...
