WTH was that presser???

lotstodo

aka "The Jackal"
Trump and Putin hold a quick presser after their first.meeeting and Trump looks like a complete dupe. He blamed the US intelligence agencies for what is pretty obviously Russian hacking of the DNC.

First of all, you don't EVER throw your own intelligence service under the bus like that, even if they screwed up. Second of all, they didn't. Gucifer has worked hand in hand with the Russian government since "he" (really a they) first came on the scene. If he intended to look like a puppet he couldn't have done a better job. How Putin kept a straight face is beyond me. This was shocking even for Trump.

It wasn't his best event, but it was still better than the previous admin's apology tour. I'll take it...and twice on Sunday.
All we hear is what a great negotiator he is and he pulls this crap. Obama was no statesman, he was a terrible negotiator, but this was just insane. Jimmy Carter would know better.

I would have put it this way, "Putin says he didn't have anything to do with election interference and I can understand why he would, because not ONE SINGLE VOTE was changed. I would be very tempted to deny conducting a failed mission if I were him."

I'm tired of all this stuff of meddling and interference when it's been going on for decades from both parties. Don't talk to me about Face Book posts and other social media engineering, as if both sides of the isle don't the same thing. Demonstrate how ONE VOTE was changed. Show me ONE election facility in which numbers were altered. Please....someone....define "interference".

What is the answer? A shooting war? Telling Vlad to "knock it off" as our former flimsy C N C did? Or should we quietly do a little interference our self?

Maybe in order to beat the Russians at their own game, one has to lie through your teeth and keep them wondering what's going on!! IDK, just shaking my head!

I had zero illusions of the possible outcomes. No matter how he "performed" he was going to be raked through the coals. No one knows exactly what was discussed in their 1 on 1 meeting, only speculation. One thing I do know.....you don't poke at a sleeping bear.....just let it sleep in peace as it's better for everyone.

How I the hell can you defend this? All he did was ask where Hillary's server was and say that Putin made a good case for it not being him who hacked it. He was literally repeating Russian talking points, when two Congressional committees and two independent council's have concluded based upon our intelligence that it was Russia.

No collusion no collusion! What an asshat. It doesn't matter that the outcome wasn't changed, it doesn't matter if Trump was or wasn't involved, Russia was involved, we know this for a fact, and we should take that stand. Total bullcrap on Trump's part, trying to cover his own ass when he should have been standing up for our's.

Russia is not our ally. We should be talking to them, but not cowering like Obama, saying that both sides made mistakes, "the Democrats made mistakes"

Oh. My. God. What an idiot.

Perhaps I'm jaded but I'm not surprised at all by any of this. When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. Trump is not loyal to America, he's loyal to himself.

...when two Congressional committees and two independent council's have concluded based upon our intelligence that it was Russia...

No reason to doubt their conclusions, they've done such a superb job lately (drip drip).

Here's my take (and it's not directed at you or anyone in particular): As mentioned, there was no collusion which vindicates Trump and many people just can't stomach that thought because they were hell-bent on taking him down. Russian interference? Sure, I'll accept that, not unlike previous elections for the past several decades. Sorry, but that's no different than our interference with other foreign elections. Please don't anyone say it doesn't happen, it's exactly what foreign governments do and will continue to do whether or not Trump gets stern with Putin.

We are blessed that tonight there are no missiles flying, no troop buildup at the borders, our markets are stable, and our economy is booming. Go Trump, Keep America Great and if it pisses some people off who cares because those same people probably didn't vote for you in the first place.

It's possible for all of the following to be true at the same time:

1. There was no collusion between Trump and Russia in the election.
2. Russia interfered with the election.
3. We do the same with other countries.
4. The Democrats are attempting to use the idea of collusion to hurt Trump.
5. The Democrats would use anything they could to hurt any Republican President.
6. The Republicans would use anything they could to hurt any Democrat President. (But they aren't as good at it as the Democrats so it would fail).
7. Trump has done some great things as President - economy, tax cuts, SCOTUS, cutting regulations, and more.
8. Trump had a horrible press conference and blamed the U.S. for Russia's interference and threw his intelligence folks under the bus.

Email friend sent along his thoughts (wish I could take credit for this wisdom... grin):

On this Helsinki summit, I noted Trump mentioned he was willing to take some political hits to get his agenda for some sanity done.

That might be a key remark that the chattering classes might have missed.

I think (and I hope I am right), that news conference was meant for public consumption only. Nothing to be gained by coming off all bad-ass and make Putin look weak to his country, he would have to come back all bad-ass, and a major confrontation could result. I think what counts is what was discussed without any potential leakers in the room. And, I notice neither he nor Putin are saying.

In private, he could well have said "we know your people/agencies pulled that stunt during 2016, perhaps without your direct knowledge (a face saving gesture). I just don't want to see the same action for 2018, or there will be a response you will not like. There just are too many issues for this nonsense - nukes in hands of unstable regimes, terrorist attacks, Iran in Syria that could well cause an Israel-Iranian fight - which we would side with Israel. Need to work to solve these issues in a way nobody loses face."

We'll see in coming weeks and months if I am right or not.

They sure as hell didn't spend hours discussing tea and crumpets. That private meeting didn't drag out as long as it did for nothing.

IMO, need to give Trump the benefit of a doubt... until both sides of the story come out and we see what really happened, as well as the fake news is proven or dis-proven.

JawJa comment...
Ya know...
Last week there was a report that broke at a curious time (timing, just before the trip to the summit)...
And there were folks from the opposition (left, DEM, MSM, etc)... who got up on their usual self-righteous (pompous would be a better description) pedestals and scorned Trump... saying he should not go to the summit.
And of course the pundits screamed all that one sided obstructionism from the mountain tops ALL WEEKEND!

IMO... this smells like:
The insiders knew Trump was gonna accomplish something against their agenda (remember, the agenda of the left is not friendly to a traditional constitutional America)...
So, as usual, they set up a media campaign to attempt to manage/mold public opinion.

Now the following comment is not pointed at anyone...
However IMO... when someone (anyone) reacts to a soundbyte... without FIRST researching BOTH SIDES of the story...
IMO they are, by choice (yeah, it is an easy choice to make), falling prey to being a sucker of the left... and maybe even a slave of the MSM.
Now personally... I would not want to be a sucker or slave...

Probably best to stop here...
Before this starts to sound like a rant... :D

The only reason for the question from the press was to put Trump in a box. Whatever was said about "meddling" was said in the private meeting. The Press could care less about Russia whom they loved and worshiped in years past. Have no illusions, this is all about Trump. If Trump had scolded Putin while standing next to him in public, the Press would have loved the result and touted how Trump destroyed U.S. / Russian relations and ushered us into a full scale Cold War and arms race. If he doesn't scold Putin in public, they react as they are doing now. Hell, the press demands that he recite what they tell him to recite in their questions.

Once again, this is not about Russia, it's not even about Russian "interference" because even the most stupid liberal knows Trump won the election legitimately. This all about what it has always been about. Either running Trump out of office or impeaching him. Tell me it's not....and why....

Everyone is consumed with the words Trump used / domestic politics and nobody seems interested in paying attention to the substance of that meeting...

Crimea, Syria, Israel, Iran.

Gulf Cooperation Council.

;)

The truth is that all the advanced nations meddle in each other's elections. Obama poured millions into Israel's elections to try and oust Bibi. And don't forget that the Democrats meddled in our own elections; rigging the primary for Hillary and colluding with the media to get the questions that would be asked at the debates.

I don't doubt that Putin wanted Hillary to lose, and I think he had good reason for it. Russia kicked Soros out of the country for nearly crashing their economy, and had Hillary won Soros would have had the power of the United States in his pocket. With that kind of power, Soros could have brought most of the world's economies down while he profited.

So ironically, this was a case where the enemy of our enemy was our friend. The only real question is whether or not Russia and Trump conspired over this, and as of yet there hasn't been any credible evidence produced that they did.

Trump did do poorly at the press conference. He was flat wrong and he allowed Putin to make him his beotch. Putin is never one to underestimate.

People this is no grand plan by a political genius. Trump is a babbling idiot who says what pops into his head and that does great diplomatic damage. He literally sided with the Russian dictator over his own intelligence and investigative services. There is no other rationalway to interpret the words that came out of his mouth. He did this to cover his own ass, as if Putin's denial would somehow make this whole pile if crap go away, as if anyone other than himself would ever believe Putin. What Trump did was make a bad situation even worse. He helped nothing, not even himself. This was a shameful presentation of hubris.

I'm really trying to understand exactly what diplomatic damage was created. Personally I feel it's healthy to question our intelligence and investigative services, especially now since the FBI's debacle revealed such an embarrassing depth of political bias and corruption, not to mention their lack of accountability. Granted, throwing them under the bus isn't a good idea and was probably Trump's biggest mistake as POTUS to date. But I fail to accept that this was in some way a major stumbling block with long lasting consequences other than giving the anti-Trumpsters talking points going into to the mid-terms.

It could have been much much worse. Not his best performance but I'll take it. Yes, I'm a Trump supporter but I don't drink the Kool-Aid. I'll call a spade a spade when it's a spade.

I partially agree with you, I've never cared for Trump's babbling and nutty remarks.

But as to your remark that he's not a political genius; I'm not so sure he isn't, at least to some degree. Remember, this is the guy who manipulated the media and played the Democrats all through the primary and even during the general election. I didn't care for his methods, but they seem to have worked. I do wish he'd knock it off now that he's POTUS though, and act "presidential".

As for our intelligence community...I think he's right that they are corrupt and broken, and I'm glad he's trying to make people aware of that. But yesterday's press conference was not the time and place. The way he handled it almost made it look like the Democrat's are right about the Russian collusion stuff. It looked bad and gave them a lot of fodder to keep the crap alive.
