Yet another reminder of just how lucky I was to have the childhood that I did.

Is it really so bad to go to a ceremony or celebration of another religion? Is it such a bad thing to better understand another human being? Just because you go and learn does not change you or your beliefs.

Would you participate in Ramadan with Muslim friends?

I believe Ramadan is a month on the Muslim calendar.
It is, but would you participate with Muslim friends for one night of it?

I participate in Halloween. I let the princess dress up and go trick or treating. We hand out candy. How is that different?

Because like Christmas, many people celebrate Halloween as a purely secular event.

Ramadan is a month of fasting and I know they can eat after sunset. (and before dawn?) I have never been asked to participate in the month of fasting by family so I highly doubt a friend would ask another friend to participate. :dunno I think you need a better "celebration" to ask her if she would participate.

:whistle Um, participating for a night is just having dinner with your Muslim friends. ;) You either fast daily between dawn and dusk for Ramadan or you do not. It is not the same as going to ....a Bar Mitzvah.

You're missing the point. It's not uncommon for us to participate in events of other religions even though we are not adopting their beliefs. It may be considered secular to some, but there are some Christians feel like celebrating Halloween is wrong and they do not do it (not even the "secular" aspects of it).

Excellent point LisaC.

I'd do it.

Attending isn't the same as committing or professing belief in.

I'd be honored to be asked, and would hope that I'd be able to appreciate it.

And hope that if I asked someone to attend a religious event at my church, they'd feel the same way.

Why did you come to the conclusion that it was a bad thing? If you're referring to the original post, I'm curious how you got your conclusion from that?

I came to the conclusion that some here believe it would be bad based on some of the replies.

Sometimes it isn't all about you, sweetie. ;)

I'm sorry, I guess the second part of my post where it asks "if" wasn't clear enough. Perhaps a laugh from second floor balcony crowd was what you were going for. lol. Either way, a simple post on a chat board doesn't sway my confidence one bit. :taunt

I didn't quote your OP and my post was deep into the thread. If SD had posted what you did folks would have been all over her. Funny how the door doesn't swing both ways with some folks around here. :))
