Re: Word Count - The First Grey Colson Novel (title withheld)

Week #2, waiting a decision by the publisher. tick-tock....tick-tock....Oh, well, I already knew it would take some time.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch. I put off trying to start a new story. Today, as I went to gas up my patrol car, it "grabbed" me. I went back to the office and typed the first page of the next story. This one is going to be F.U.N!

The name of the new book is a slang term my mother used to use for the devil. Mrs. Reacher has given her thumbs up :thumbsup

Thanks LTD ;D I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I don't expect the world, just to get 14 months of work published.

Re: Word Count - The First Grey Colson Novel (title withheld)

I received a contract from Brighton Publishing today via email. If I take it, it will be in the works for 8 or 9 months before it's published in eBook format, then another 2 months before the papreback is available. That puts it being out around August or September of 2012.

I guess I should be jumping up and down...shouldn't I? :'(

I'll keep you posted

Actually, the reason I'm not jumping up and down yet is because I'm curious about the quality of the publication from the publisher. I have been speaking with one of their authors who is doing pretty well with Brighton Publishing. His name is Chris Broyhill. Just to make myself feel better, I ordered his book from Amazon to check out the quality. It should be here on Nov. 28th. Right now I've placed myself in a holding pattern until I am confident about those folks...Here's his book:

What kind of contract? I am not concerned with the quality of the publication. Most printing firms can put out a good looking book, but I am wondering what they are offering. Are they doing a self publish for you or buying the rights? (I am not trying to be a Debbie downer, you know that, but this happened very fast, and a few things seem a little off. I do not want you to be "burned" on a deal :( )

I feel the same way. I've done exhuasting research and spoken/communicated with two other authors. These were not names give to me, but people I contacted on my own. I can't find any complaints on the internet about the publisher, although I've seen many skeptical comments about subsidy publishing.

HERE is their site.

Although this is my first attempt at publishing a book, I've been down this road in the music industry. It's a similar approach.

Re: Word Count - The First Grey Colson Novel (title withheld)

I've made my decision to go with Brighton Publishing. I received The Viper Contract in the mail today. TOP QUALITY paperback quality. I also had a long talk with the publisher on the phone this afternoon. I believe this is the best route for me at this time and I will sign and return the contract next week. I believe it's a good story and may actually do pretty well.

After prayer and discussion with Mrs. Reacher, I have signed and returned the contract to Brighton Publishing. Mrs. Reacher supports the decision without hesitation. She must have the faith that I lack. Time will tell.

One thing I know for certain. The quality of their product is as good as I've ever seen. The next 8 or 9 months will be exciting and a learning experience. Then the ebook will be released. Around 2 months later, the paperback will follow. I'd like to request of all my friends to help me push the book when it comes out. It's really not too bad at all....even if I say so myself. 8)

Re: Word Count - The First Grey Colson Novel (title withheld)

Monday December 5, 2011:

I spoke with the publisher again today. He needs a summary of the book, an "About the Author" statement, a photo and my thoughts for a cover concept. They have an individual who creates original cover art, but I'm thankful they requested my input. I like the concept in my banner (below) and I'm anxious to see what they come up with. This should be an interesting 7 or 8 months ahead. 3 editors will read and correct the manuscript over the next several months and I will be tasked with doing a couple of proof readings. Then there are a few "real" businesses mentioned in the book that will require approval before publishing.

I'll keep you posted. When finihed, I'd really apprciate as many of you as possible to read the book and post reviews on the various sites, like Amazon.com, etc.

I Thank Thee ;D

GREAT! Really ;D

I did a LOT of work even after I gave you and fox the flash drive. At least another month of work with the agent before it went to Brighton. I've spoken with the publisher twice and will be working with them for the next six months. They are determined to make it the best it can be. I've found that no writer is perfect and requires many edits. I just want it to be something acceptable and worth a read.

They will consider book 2, but I have to move 5,000 copies. They have placed a great deal of faith in the work and said it was something in the genre that was currently popular. They said they were tired of all the vampire and Harry Potter knock offs they received on a daily basis. I hope to provide something a little different.

One of my friends is a photographer in NY. (She is awesome, she is published world wide. People, Time, etc....) anyway her cousin is also a friend and the creator/writer of Covert Affairs. One of my new favorite shows. Anyway I know she reposted your blurb for me and I will ask her to have Chris do it too. The people that follow that show will enjoy your book.
