Word Count - The First Grey Colson Novel "Code of Misconduct"

Re: Word Count - The First Grey Colson Novel (title withheld)

Will you be able to email a file that large?

Re: Word Count - The First Grey Colson Novel (title withheld)

I was able to email it to my special gmail account. If that won't work, I'll just grab a couple of flash drives and get them to you.

Re: Word Count - The First Grey Colson Novel (title withheld)

273 of 460 pages through the first edit :'( My eyeballs are tard :'(

Still on track to finish this week. After you guys finish, I'll make corrections, adjustments and probably do a 3rd edit. I'm working on a query letter on the side. It may be as difficult as the edit, but I'd like to send the first one out around the first of November.

I should look forward to receiving my first "Merry Christmas Rejection Letter" this year :laugh

Re: Word Count - The First Grey Colson Novel (title withheld)

The query letters will be to literary agents. I'm not bold enough to send any to a publisher yet. The agents are difficult to get as it is. If one likes it, they request a portion of the manuscript. THEN, if they still like it, they work with the author to make it presentable to a publisher. The agent pitches the manuscript to publishers who "might" consider it.

From what I read, it's almost like winning the lottery. I read that good agents receive hundreds of query letters per month. They have to be written flawlessly or they are tossed in the "round file".

I have communicated with a copy editor that charges approximately 4K to perfect a manuscript, but I don't see that happening. And they were the least expensive I have found to date. I am really counting on you and Fox....

Not a problem JR.

Re: Word Count - The First Grey Colson Novel (title withheld)

I picked up a couple of flash drives today and will be finished with the first edit tomorrow. You guys send me a PM so I'll know how to get them to you Monday or one day next week. I have to work all weekend, but should be off Monday.

Edited to add the following:

All posted segments have been removed. They will not represent the final product following the edits. For those who didn't read them.....too late. You'll have to wait for the book :p

Re: Word Count - The First Grey Colson Novel (title withheld)

This is AMAZING....

I started the second edit.....thinking I did pretty well with the first one.............NOT! It seems like I'm making as many marks on the pages as I did the first time :BH

I'm still going to give the first edit to Fox and DS, but now I have to buy them 3 extra red markers each....

You all don't expect too much :Ninja

LOL. You need to stop. At this point you might be editing things that are fine and Fox and I like. Once you get our first edits back you need to see what each of us corrected/ critiqued and than go edit.
I plan on reading it once and just tabbing things that stick out as odd and than going back and doing a full edit. (I want to enjoy the storyline the first time though.)

Thanks, That is kind of what I was going to suggest Monday. It's the extraneous words that are driving me crazy. You can get the flavor of the story from the first edit. It's not that it STINKS, but it still needs a good bit of cleaning and perfume before it smeels presentable.

Just as long as you guys know it can sound much better than first presented. Some segments need to be moved I think, but that won't prevent the edit from going forward. Those can be moved at any point.

It's amazing how you can miss something you've become used to over a year. For over 12 months I have set aside an hour to 90 minutes a day writing and now it's gone. I'm going through withdrawls :huh

Re: Word Count - The First Grey Colson Novel (title withheld)

I wish to testify right here and right now that writing a one page query letter to an agent is more difficult than writing the book.

MOMMY MAKE IT STOOOOOOP! :BH

What "part" did you submit? You might not get a rejection letter if you wait for some edits! Just sayin' :taunt

A ten page portion that has gone through 5 edits. Brighton was the lowest on my list and thought I'd give the query letter a practice ;D

I can't help but ask, but have either of you had a chance to begin reading?
