What do we do with the airport?

If this is how these elected people treat those who elected them, why would a business believe they'd be treated any better (and they have more to lose) unless they think they can line someone's pockets to get what they want too.

If anyone needs to step away for a while, I'm sure the air will cool down. I don't like it when that police stuff starts. Everyone gets defensive. :seesaw

There are no posts. I'm just reading all of the comments between everyone in these two threads and it appears to me that you all are getting a little heated. I just don't want any of the moderation stuff. It makes everyone testy. That's all I meant by it.

:)) Oh okay. I am really not heated about anything. I know, and I only speak for myself, that when things are presented I ask questions. Toss out maybes, and what if's. As with this topic I am asking most all of the same questions to both sides, trying to figure it all out.
So no need to get all testy. :laugh

I have no horse in this race, my race is bringing the stadium to Cobb County. Really doesn't matter what I want because if the higher powers have already knighted it then it will happen. Same goes for the airport. Whether we want to admit it or not, there isn't a whole lot that can be done to stop the train once it's rolling. We may delay it, we may make it change tracks, but the train is coming through town with the whistles blowing. Get on board and ride the gravy train or get left behind. JMO.

Do you think? I am thinking that these suits will derail at least some of this. To what extent I am not sure, but I do not think, IMO, that it is all said and done at this point.

If we are going to get the police involved, we're going to need doughnuts.

It will. This is getting a lot of coverage from all over.

One thing I've noticed from watching the videos, there are a few folks who oppose the airport also opposed every rezoning application years back. I know for a fact that Whitey doesn't live anywhere near the airport. I would bet a few others don't also.

This fight will never be over. It will be one law suit after another, dragging out the process that could have created 100's of jobs this year. They did the same thing with housing developments, they needed a new target to spend their free time. It's the same thing I've seen for years, same people, same arguments. Next year it will be a new fight of something else. A never endless cycle to prevent any type of progress in this County.

Glad I only have about 7 days left here.

I am not against smart growth or progress... I oppose pipe dream projects that negatively affect the taxpayers pocketbook and quality of life.

I oppose the citizens of this county being shut out of the planning process. I oppose the notion that the government should create jobs at the
expense of the profitable private sector. I oppose the arrogant and condescending lack of respect that these officials have shown the taxpayers.

Prior proper planning prevents piss poor performance. ;)

Lack of proper planning is why the taxiway is 35 feet wide instead of 50, why the runway didn't get that last 600' of concrete. By the time this airport opened in 2008, they should have had businesses lined up to move in. They keep using the recession as an excuse to move to commercial service. If proper planning procedures had been implemented, there would have been buildings sitting there at the grand opening.

Pipe dreams, millions of dollars wasted, they have no clue what they are doing. Read the post where I copied my friend's findings. He's not just "some guy", this is his field of expertise, he holds a master's degree and many years of experience.

Here it is again, please keep in mind, this is a small excerpt of what he had to say about this airport. There is much more that I don't feel comfortable sharing without his permission.

On the fundamental business side of the project, neither a Business Case Analysis nor Return on Investment was developed. There is no Integrated Master Plan (IMP) or Integrated Master Schedule (IMS). Because no IMP/IMS were developed, there is no Independent Risk Assessment or corresponding Risk Mitigation Plans. Fundamental Program Management principles and tools were obviously ignored or not utilized in the development and initial execution phases of this project. It appears that Paulding County is venturing into a multimillion dollar project blindly and without the aid of basic management processes or tools.

This process oversight may be due to lack of expertise or proper educational skill sets. Even though Paulding County entered into a partnership with Silver Comet Terminal Partners LLC (SCTP) team, neither the Airport Authority nor SCTP has a member with Airport Management experience. They have not utilized outside Subject Matter Experts (SMA’s) or consultants that that could provide specialized guidance and direction during this critical planning phase of the project. Even with non-related educational skill sets, one would assume that by being appointed to the airport Authority someone on the team would possess some basic management skill and would have followed elementary planning process and techniques.

It would be wonderful if you could obtain his permission for the above excerpt, as the people need to hear from someone with real knowledge in this area.

This is what concerns me. Are judgments clouded simply because folks don't want to see any growth in this county and they want to keep it the way it has always been?

The lawsuits do have an impact. Companies spend a lot of money doing due diligence and that includes determining the likelihood of lawsuits. I would also venture to guess that is why Delta is so involved - they know that if they create a big opposition, aerospace companies that they do business with are less likely to want to come here.

Are you concerned about the lack of due diligence on the part of our elected officials that is outlined above ? ? ?

Absolutely, it's a concern all the way around.

Lawsuit, or not, I do not like the way this was all done behind closed doors and the very constituents that put those men into office were deceived by those officials. If all this causes business/industry leaders to not move to Paulding then the blame rests with those elected officials...not the citizens that oppose them. If this had been handled on the up and up, I'm sure some kind of agreement could have been reached about what the citizens would accept. I know this is a passionate disagreement, but all of this could have been avoided if it had been handled correctly from the start. They could have held an open meeting, with community input/involvement, to specifically address the airport and the burden it has placed on the county.
