Trump to meet with Kim Jong Idiot

IMO...

We are in a cycle of media where

NO NEWS

Regardless of who reports it...
Can be believed... until it is verified.
(Personal comment: regardless of what the source or intent)

As to the story in the LA Times...
That is a seriously liberal rag... I would personally want double the verification on them.

BTW: I could not read the article...
Their site will not allow me to access the article because I am using private browsing...
In other words: if they cannot harvest data from me, I do not get to read their stuff...

So I have to ask myself... do I want to let an organization that supported an administration (the previous one), which weaponized the Fed govt to spy on anyone and everyone they could... to harvest data from my computer???
Just to read a news story???

I think I will pass... as I have lots of news feeds I can more or less trust (and are easily verified).

Here is a little history lesson on the LA times:
In either the 1980 or 1984 election (Reagan was on the ballot)...
The LA times, on the morning of the Tuesday election day) came out with a poll saying the DIM was gonna win by a HUGE margin...
Which turned out to be the OPPOSITE of what happened.

So do I trust the LA Times...
NO... :)

OK... back on topic...
Here you go:

That is from 2017.

A more recent article about profits: https://www.theinformation.com/briefings/cf4270

AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson is looking pretty smart right now for refusing to sell off CNN to ensure the Department of Justice approved AT&T’s $85 billion purchase of Time Warner. The cable news network is bringing in on average 700,000 viewers a day, more than any other time in the past 25 years, according to Vanity Fair. And CNN is projected to turn a $1.2 billion profit on $2.5 billion in revenue this year, making it the most profitable year ever, the magazine says.

Well would you look at that... betting this report won't get that same amount of air time :

That's actually a common theme for NOKO reports. Several who were reported "purged" have reappeared after completing re-education at one of their many labor camps.

Problem in my subdivision...
Comcast seriously sucks!!!

Generally when I go to my desk and wiggle the mouse to get the computer up...
Then click on something to go online...
On a good day... it takes 15-30 seconds for Comcast to find a floating IP for me...
On a bad day... the ONLY solution is to:
Reboot my desktop, then reboot the Comcast modem.
Once in a while, doing the above does not work (about once a week)...
And I am at the mercy of Comcast to get online.

So at this point... AT&T, even with poor service, would be a LOT better!
Speaking of AT&T... as I type, the crews are burying fiber conduit in my subdivision!
In a month or so... there will be competition... YEAH!
And I bet Comcast all of a sudden magically improves their service...
DUH

Having said this...
AT&T has a long rep of p*ss poor customer service...
Or as Clark Howard says: Customer NO service.

I really think the public needs to be really b*tchy about customer service with ALL the internet/cable/cell providers...
Repeatedly...
Until they clean up their acts!

I want to stop my use of ATT, but it has nothing to do with their politics, just the crappy service...

I had ATT Uverse and cell for over a decade... the service was wonderful!
When I moved, ATT was not available... so had to go to Comcast...
See post above

Service hasn't been bad i admin, just low powered with minor irritants like router reboots all the time. I get 18 mbs down, but only 1.5 up and I can't adjust that. if they would let me adjust it to 12 down 6 up I'd be much happier.

Uverse top tier is like comcast bottom of the line.

I had U300... which included most everything except the pay movie channels (HBO, Cinemax, etc)...
It worked over 40+ year old buried copper lines... they had some technology where they could use 2x twisted pairs and get it to work, called it duplexing...

I got 15-16M down and 5-6M up... which was good for 4X HD TV signals AND mild internet surfing (not streaming).

I talked to the folks at the ATT phone store a few weeks ago... when the crews started working in my neighborhood...
They said ATT fiber comes in:
100M,
300M,
1Gig...
And that means BOTH up and down.

My brother has the 300M package down in Snellville...
He says it averages 350-375 down all the time, and up is usually at least 325.
He says he cannot use near the bandwidth he has.

I remember a year or so ago... doing a service call at a guys house...
He had ATT fiber...
Showed me a speed test on his cell phone, over WiFi in his house (high end router)....
The phone said 1.015G (not a typo)...
Amazing... down the fiber, through the router, through Wifi to a phone... and over a GIG download speed!

Lets see Comcast do that...
More importantly...
Lets see Comcast do that
RELIABLY!!!

Here is a tidbit about the technologies:
Comcast is like a LAN in the neighborhood... the more folks dragging on the system, the less bandwidth you get.
ATT fiber is a direct line to the big ATT switch building... no LAN in the neighborhood.

We will see how this works out...
However I have yet to talk to anyone who does not like ATT fiber!

Yea, if I could get the fiber service, I'd upgrade in a minute. Many places in Paulding have it, but our subdivision has 2 acre lots, so not many houses for the fiber they'd have to string and they haven't run it yet.

I have the duplex DSL service now, that's how I get the 18 down / 1.5 up. The line might push a little more for download, line 1 is running at half speed with a much better S/N ratio, but both are already pushing 1.0 up, with s/n margin of less than 10 dB, so they would have to transfer more channels from download to upload to get any more upload speed.

As I understand it...
At one time, ATT was looking at quad/plex technology... trying to use 4 twisted pairs to boost the bandwidth...
Then they started running fiber.

I also heard that ATT wants to have the entire metro Atlanta area on fiber by the end of 2020... so you may get your wish...

OTOH... there is talk of hundreds of low orbit satellites running the internet on 5G technology... if that happens, the fiber will be old school.

Still though... I am sooo ready to leave Comcast!

An interesting tidbit I learned a few weeks ago:
Was at a customers house in Buckhead... they had Google fiber installed...
As usual... I strike up a conversation with the installer guy...
I asked why fiber is strung on poles in one neighborhood and buried in another... seemed like a waste of $$$ to me.
He told me that Google ownes a lot of the elec utility poles... rents space to the power co... and obviously there is NO WAY that ATT or Comcast are gonna have their wires on poles that Google owns...
And it gets worse... Comcast owns a bunch of poles also... repeat.
The guy said as far as he knew... ATT did not own any poles.

Curious how the markets work... :)
