I don't believe I am, I spent years in marketing. For profit businesses need no more pressure to initiate new tactics than the promise of the almighty dollar. That is what is behind your fortune cookie conspiracy. As for the changing face (and primary language) of the population that is behind that market surge, change has been a part of this countries history since it began - and so has complaining about it. It is what it is.
You should see the signs here - 3 sometimes 4 or more languages. Menus you have to thumb through pages just to get to your section. If I felt like I had to learn the language, I would certainly make a greater effort, but they cater to non-natives here so it is completely uneccessary. Is the government here pressuring them into it for some political reason? Sometimes, but not for any reason other than why the businesses do it on thier own. They couldn't care less about our comfort and well-being. It's done because they want our $$$$ - no matter what language we speak.
Big picture? Don't expect businesses to cut off their market base in the name of controlling a national identity - that's not their job nor their responsibility and it would be stupid of them to do so. The government needs to step up and close the borders COMPLETELY, until they get a grip on the current population, thier identity and their needs. When that happens and we, the American citizens, are getting our needs met by the governent we fund, THEN and ONLY then will we be able to have rational flow of immigrants and emmigrants to stabilize the population. From there, we continue to monitor and control the effect of world events on said population, re-establishing our national identity and all of the little nit-picky details that go with it - like what language gets the number 1 spot in the phone que.
