The \'Cutest Couple\' This High School Didn\'t Expect

I don't want to get into the drama part of this thread, but the science end did perk my interest because I've been asked from time to time how I can teach science and be a Christian. (And the question comes from both Christians and non-Christians.)

Here is the thing about the gay gene: at the moment, we don't have any conclusive evidence one way or the other. It also doesn't matter what we believe or think about the gay gene. It either is or it isn't real. Some of us will try to argue it away if science shows something one way or the other, but that doesn't make the conclusion science reaches any less real. Some choose to put their heads in the sand, but that really is a choice.

Some argue that God wouldn't put something in our genetic makeup to cause us to sin. Really? He puts some of us in environments that cause us to grow up as sinners. Something in our genes must be fought just as much as something in our environment.

Most of the research I've read on homosexuality says that our sexuality is a lot more complicated than one single gene. For example, I'm tall, and that is genetic. But, what if I had been starved as a child? What if I ate better as a child? Those would alter my height. The same is true of our sexuality. There MAY be a predisposition in our genes, but our environment affects a lot more than that.

In one tangential closing remark: by publicizing "cutest couple" with full names, these two poor kids are going to get all kinds of internet hate.

Well said, squirrel. ;) I don't think it's necessarily either/or...it's both (genetic and environment).

THIS! I also believe that a traumatic experience (environment) can also have a strong effect.
