Seems to me...

Lots of folks like to argue...

Yet what is more important...

Slowing the damage done by the open borders...
Or arguing???

Walls work... there is NO argument there...
If they did not... then why did the USA spend $Billions building a 274 mile wall in the ME???
Why did China build the great wall???
Even in the Bible... there are multiple references to walls around cities!
And if walls work... then why do we not want what works on OUR border???
Is arguing more important than solving the problem???

That is, unless someone (or lots of someones) are profiting from the damage being done to our country????

Thoughts???

The Federal Government cannot exercise eminent domain without express permission from Congress. There appears to be no exception in the Emergency Powers Act. Several large landowners said they will not give the federal government and easement nor sell their property along the river to the government. The center of the river is the legal border. Moving the river moves the border, and diverting the water is controlled by treaty and both state and federal regulation. Unless breaking several laws and and a treaty is part of that plan, I don't know of anything that will allow him to take or use border property in Texas.

He may be able to declare the emergency(another subject), we will have to see, but building a complete wall in Texas does not depend soley upon that fact. There are a lot of moving parts, and I seriously doubt that they are anything a GOB clan can ignore, not even Texans.

Now let's get to the cost, $23 billion. If he were to attempt to take that out of the defense budget, even the Republicans in Congress would have a fit. I would imagine that somewhere before that happened, Congress would repeal the Emergency Powers Act and have the 2/3 majority to make that veto proof.

Now let's talk about time. The President is declaring an emergency to do something that experts predict will take 13 years to complete. He will be either 2 or 6 years into it when he leaves.
Just curious where the 13 year figure came from?

Not disputing it, but that does seem long.

Nobody, except some liberals, disputes that walls can work. However, there is much more to the process of building a border wall than declaring an emergency. Acknowledging those facts doesn't mean people are arguing for or against the wall. It is just stating facts that can't be covered up by Trump now being able to say at his rallies that he got the funding he needed (which isn't really true either).

It was a study done a few years back, one of the two that also came up with the 23 billion dollar price tag. I think either Cato or Heritage did a report on it, but I don't remember exactly who conducted the research. I want to say Stanford, but I'm not sure.

Build the wall along the border and keep it open along those properties owners will not give the government access. It won't take long before those landowners request the government build the wall there as those places will be very common for illegal crossings causing damage to those lands.

I think it could be built faster, just depends on how much resources we throw at it. But, that could impact cost too.

I like the suggestion that we should start deporting Democrats to Mexico, and then Mexico would pay for the wall.

To say that Texans distrust the Federal Government would be an understatement. This is on top of the fact that their land is worth exactly zero without access to water. Putting up with illegals is to them a minor problem in comparison.

One huge landowner, a man who owns thousands of acres and miles of border said he wouldn't be opposed to cameras if he thought he could trust the government to honor a limited easement. His and other's distrust is based on years of interactions with BLM, the EPA, and others. They come by it honestly.

But can we really? Look how long it takes to make a new highway.

I wonder what the alternative would be, one that “everyone agrees is the right way.”

Guess doing nothing and continuing to say things are just fine is the answer. There’s nothing wrong with at the border, immigration policy is perfect, nothing to see here folks. We just need to tell people to say no to drugs just like we have since the Reagan years. Brilliant idea and why rehab facilities are going the way of the dinosaur.

Regardless of how long it takes, the sooner we start the sooner it will be completed.

There are many other things we need to so regarding immigration. We need to remove many of the giveaways, take another look at the birthright clause, and we need to streamline the legal immigration process for the good ones while at the same time doing better with the vetting.

But as usual, politics stands in the way.

Trump has a reputation for bringing in jobs ahead of schedule and under budget...

Lets see if he can manage that with govt work... :)

During the first year of his administration... LOTS of red tape slowing down construction projects was eliminated or streamlined...
Hope it worked!

Personal comment: I really do not care if the rules are bent...
The wall will help resolve a LOT of problems that could really become hazardous to the USA...

NOT the least is:
We eradicated a lot of diseases in the USA...
Yet these illegals coming to our border carry those diseases!

Our healthcare system is a mess...
The LAST thing we need now... is an epidemic of some disease!

Sooo... is the potential for an epidemic enough reason to build a wall... :)

They built a bridge for I-85 in what, 8 weeks? Of course, I hate to know how much OT they paid for that...
Well, they kinda already owned the land and the bridge was already designed, sited, permitted, and they didn't put it out for bid. Plus, like you pointed out it cost over 3 times the normal bridge replacement cost.

LOL. Yeah, that worked out well didn't it?
Too bad they did not use all the money they spent on shovel ready jobs and green energy jobs to protect our border with barriers and people to deter illegal immigration into our country the last 10 years.

We all know the jobs never happened... the money just disappeared into 0bama's friends bank accounts.

And a lot of it was just flat wasted. We were doing a good bit of work for a local county government at the time, and I'll just say that we replaced a whole lot of HVAC units that were in better shape than the one in my own house. Local governments were falling all over themselves to find ways to spend the money.

That's history being history and trying to teach us a lesson for our future.
