Local debates

Perhaps we are talking two different things... It was brought up that she operates a funeral home, and a funeral home business should be kept seperate from coroner... That she shouldn't be coroner because of her funeral home.
:p We are.

What are y'all's thoughts on the School Board and the contested judgeship. I really haven't been keeping up with those.

I like Fuller and Dutton for school board. I'm still undecided between Albright and Talley, but leaning toward Talley.

I like Lyles for Judge, Worthy is a definite no for me.

Just pulled up the ballot and realized we have to vote on all the School Board districts and the at large. Arrrggg... I knew I was going with Kim, but don't know the others yet. Why do you like Fuller and Dutton? Going with Lyles for judge. Too bad no one is running against Heath, I'd enjoy voting against him again. 'Course I can't blame them with the dirty campaigns he runs. I guess I'll leave it blank as a protest vote. Doesn't look like the Democrats came up with anyone either against Heath, so we're stuck with him again.

Did get a flyer from Graves today. It was actually about himself and what he stands for. Interesting change from yesterday's.

I forgot to add Kim Cobb for school board.

Dutton and Fuller are fresh faces, new ideas, good platforms, etc. Theresa Lyons just needs to go. She's a nice woman, but a rubber stamp for the superintendent and nothing else.

And, Heath is forever lost to me. I don't care if he's unopposed, I'll never again cast a vote for him after his last campaign.

I went with Albright. I was going back and forth, but I kept remembering that she rolled her eyes at one point when Dr. Pham was speaking, so she ultimately lost my vote.

I went Dutton, Cobb (duh!), Albright, and Fuller.

I like McDonald, and I think she'd do a good job, but she's young and new to the county. Perhaps next time. I like that she describes herself as a conservative libertarian. Lol

I'm definitely Lindsey Eberhart for coroner. Newsome is lackluster. I have never seen or heard of or from Chatham.

New information has come out about Newsome "misspeaking".

This ^^

Bill Heath is a dirty, dirty politician, and I can't believe he went unopposed this election.

What was amusing is most new candidates seem to have elementary kids or younger. They have no idea.

I'm still undecided on one of the school board races - the at-large post. I do not like Albright or Fuller. I'm still not sure about the Chairman's race.

And local politics stink!

I'm curious on the Senator issue. Can some of you post why you have problems with him? I remember hearing about some of the election tactics last time but I can't for the life of me recall.

It was dirty ugly politics. I saved the flyers for a long time, but finally threw them away. Senator Heath conducted himself in a manner that any man who identifies himself should never act. His tactics were horrible.

He's never treated me personally anything less than respectfully. There are many who do not share my opinion, and that's fine. I'm just done with him.

Please take a look at Virginia Galloway for Chairman.

There are 4 folks for the at large post I believe. Dr. Pham seems to talk a good game, but I've heard (cannot confirm) that he's much different in his personal dealings. I can't vote for the incumbent again. Ms. MacDonald seems nice, is younger, and has young, preschool aged children. I'm not sure she is aware of what she's getting into. That left me with Fuller.

Albright is opposed by Ramona Talley. I'm not thrilled with either of them.

It's a long list.

He sent a "Debt Collection" letter one year, scared the crap out of a bunch of senior citizens and I had to read it twice before I realized it was a campaign letter not a real letter to me.
He's send a flyer out that a opponent was planning on opening "Sex Shops" all over Paulding if elected just a few days before the election so it couldn't be rebutted.
He killed a bill that would made mutilation of female children's genitals illegal by appending the bill to cover *voluntary* piercings by adult women and make that punishable by 2-20 years in jail. (But ignored men completely). This made us the poster children for poor leadership all over the freaking country.

Google "Bill Heath flyers" and local sites such as this one and you will see some interesting threads from past elections.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you as far as the At-Large post is concerned, but I have family members who have had dealings with both Albright and Fuller that leave me with a definite "No" for supporting them. (Sometimes I wish I wasn't privy to the nasty stuff I find out. I know we all have "stuff" but when you have first hand knowledge of some of it, it leaves you in a "Who DO I vote for?" place. Sigh.)

Well, Ashley would be a good choice. She has very good intentions, I think. She's a mom, and she's concerned about the system she will be putting her kids in, so I find that admirable. Fuller is a car salesman. So, he obviously knows the talk... I voted for him because Ashley is young, and my peers chose Fuller. I hope that wasn't a mistake.

As far as Talley vs. Albright: I didn't like how, at the debate, Talley chatted with Lyons while the debate was going on.. Candidates were speaking to the audience, and I found it disrespectful. And, when Dr. Pham had his first time to speak, she rolled her eyes. Do I agree with Pham? No. But, in such a setting just be respectful. Albright is a lawyer, and I actually did call a friend that is a paralegal to see what her opinion was - she didn't have one because, well, she works in Douglas, and wasn't familiar with him. She found he's a defense lawyer. But couldn't find what kind of people he defends. He's not been practicing very long. But he's active with CASA, and never rolled his eyes. So, I finally chose him.

Kim Cobb is a no brainer. I wish the whole board was full of Kim Cobb.

Thanks for the input. I've decided to go as follows unless anyone has a hell no for me to hear:

Isakson (his competition is really weak, even though it's time for him to go)
Michelle Miller PSC
Mickey Tuck US 14th
Francisco Artley State 66th
Lindsey Eberhart Coroner
Roger Leggett Chairman (toss up between him and Virginia, but Virginia and I had a serious disagreement over some religion vs constitution issues before)
Ashley McDonald SB (had to pick someone, Watson has to go, and have heard some negatives about Fuller and Pham)
Steve Dutton SB
Kim Cobb SB
Glen Albright SB
David Lyles Judge

Yes on school choice
Yes on SPLOST although I think the fiber optic project is just another black hole.

I'll probably vote tomorrow afternoon. Does anyone know if anywhere besides the courthouse will be open?
