Local races matter too! This is your chance to get out and meet each of the candidates.

Attendees will not be allowed to ask questions, but they may be emailed to the Paulding Republican Party, no later than this Sunday at 5:00 p.m.

Everyone is invited!

I wish I had the time to get involved in local stuff, but I have to schedule potty breaks here lately.

I was not able to attend the local debate (I have to have way more notice than a few days...not a dig at Madea, I appreciated her telling us, just why I could not attend.) I did watch the video though.
I would love to hear opinions on who you support as Commission Chair and the reason why. I am on the fence. I would love to hear why you support a person. This is a local race and I really would rather just hear the good about your candidate and factual statements if you would like to make them about another. I just do not want my question to turn into ugliness about any candidate.
Thanks.

I would like to give a shout out to my man Mickey Tuck. I think he will be our best representative in the 14th district. He's a constitutional conservative who understands that we must cut spending to cut taxes and he will not go along to get along. For too long Tom has said one thing and voted another. It has to stop. Congress has a 13% approval rate and a 97% reelection rate. Let's start the turnaround here in the 14th.

Is he for the Cedartown area? I am pretty sure I have heard a friend speak of him. (good)

Dave Carmichael.

I am sure that nobody wants to continue the debacle at Silver Comet Field. And having said that, let me PROMISE you that all of the ranting and raving about "secret" deals is fabricated and a coverup for Todd Pownall's misfeasance in office.

This is the abbreviated and ACCURATE version of all the PCAA and PCIBA board furor.

1.) The out-of county meeting (All of 5 miles out of the County in Douglasville, at the convention center) was sponsored and paid for by Propeller. In addition to people from Paulding County, there were representatives invited from other airport venues in GA, Columbus (?) and Savannah (?). Propeller invited the PCAA board, the PCIBA board, and the Post Commissioners. Remember now, at that time, the Post Commissioners had NO input into the business of the PCAA, as they had created an intergovernmental agreement previously. Nevertheless, Propeller did invite the 4 Post commissioners as a courtesy. (None accepted the invitation)

2.) The event was a show and tell and much like a trade show where Propeller told who and what they were all about. No contracts were negotiated, no money changed hands, no liquor was served, no hookers were provided. (Which may be WHY the 4 Post commissioners didn't go?)

3.) A week or 10 days following that seminar event, the PCAA had a regular scheduled meeting and decided to enter into a business relationship with Propeller.

4.) This is where the fabrications and lies begin. Immediately after that PCAA board meeting, Dave Carmichael called Todd Pownall as a courtesy to tell him of the PCAA's action. Pownall did not answer, and Dave left him a voice mail telling him that an action had been taken and that he should go onto the PCAA's website and look at the minutes. [NOW, I know this because I stood in Dave Carmichael's kitchen while I was there doing a glass repair on their entryway. Dave looked me in the eye and told me what I just wrote above. Lou, his wife, was standing next to him when this all occurred. I don't know about you, but I damn sure wouldn't be telling anybody a lie while my better half was standing right there.]

5.) Business continued as it did surrounding the airport for the next few months. There was nothing to report and Propeller was doing whatever they were doing under the radar, no pun intended.

6.) Whenever some FAA certification (Part 139) that was requested by Propeller as part of their development plans became public, a small group of CAVE people (Citizens Against Virtually Everything) began their opposition to "commercialization". And the rumors and fairy tales began to run rampant. Pownall denied any knowledge of the Propeller contract. I firmly believe that he did so to cover his own ass because he ignored Dave Carmichael's phone message. I have been told, and can't positively substantiate it, that David Austin also sent Pownall (and the other 3 Post comissioners) an email notifying them of the Propeller deal.

7,) The PCAA's vote on the deal with Propeller was 9-0. That included both city's mayors, the President of the Chamber, the Commission Chairman, and 5 other board members who had been appointed to the PCAA BY the County Commission....And most of those 5 were Shearin appointees, BTW.

Given the way the economy has tanked and the personal behavior of Brett Smith, I'm pretty sure that none of the 9 PCAA board members would repeat the deal.

There was NEVER any attempt to certify SCF for handling Airbus 320's and the like. The intention was to get a small feeder service with 25-50 seat aircraft doing flights to regional hubs.

What none of the CAVE people understand about the 139 Certificate is that it is merely an "approval" by the FAA that the facilities (runway, terminal, security, lighting, etc.) is up to standards that are required for passenger service. It does not mean that such service will ever occur, given the economics of the industry. What could happen is that UPS or FedEx or DHL or "whoever" could build a cargo facility adjoining SCF and fly cargo planes in and out of SCF WITHOUT the Part 139 Cert.

So, enough about what is really a NON issue. The whole thing is in court and basically out of the voter's hands. I have read the lawsuits that have been filed, and I would be stunned if any judge overturns the PCAA and PCIBA. The 4 sitting Post commissioners are gonna lose. And cost the taxpayers big bucks in doing so.

So, the current race is a conservative Dave Carmichael vs 3 RINOS, who are basing their campaigns on a fabricated non-issue.

I was AT the debate last Monday night. Virginia Galloway stood behind the podium and READ (without even looking up at the audience) her pre-prepared answers. Roger Leggett is Jerry Shearin personified. And Robbie Dobson? If you like illiterate country-boy hicks, he's your man. Carmichael has the education, the honesty, and the experience.

Running on "NO Commercialization" is not a reason to support a candidate. This county has a budget of $135 Million, lots of employees, and an infrastructure to support. Carmichael has handled big budgets, he is a retired Marine Colonel, and a graduate of Vandy's civil engineering program.

And lastly, he's a good guy and not an egomaniac.

Thank you for your comments @Glassdogs . I would have to agree with you that Carmichael presented and appeared knowledgeable, educated, and his commercialization stance does not bother me. It actually is in his favor because if and when we get commercialization it would be nice to have someone that does not actually oppose it sitting there.
(Most I know are not against the commercialization of the airport. Just Thursday my girlfriend became the proud owner of acres of land that back up to the airport. She is well aware that it could become commercial and she does not care.)

The PCAA is a public board required to advertise meetings and maintain minutes. A meeting is defined by Georgia law as any time a quorum of members are in the same place at the same time. There was no advertisement or minutes. Minutes were recreated after an open records request.

Part 139/is required for one purpose only, and that is scheduled commercial flights by a common carrier airline. While it doesn't guarantee service as you point out, Hartsfield operates under a part 139 certification, so it does not limit service to one little airline or just a few flights per week either.

Commercialization is Carmichael's baby, even though The commission said on tape that the airport would never be commercial. Every Commissioner besides the one whose post has the airport in it was aware of Propeller's efforts. That is not a coincidence.

I'm sorry that this came down to court cases, but the behind the back efforts to do precisely what everyone knew the taxpayers didn't want started it, and Carmichael was ass deep in the whole mess.

I do not particularly like how it came out, but I do not think that all the tax payers did not want it. I know many that do and many that do not care either way.
My issue with voting for someone is that I do not want it to be an airport vote.

My vote needs to be for the best overall candidate with experience. Do I want them to be open and honest, yes, but I also know we vote them in to do what is best for the county as they can and I am not going to watch and second guess their every move. (I do not have time for that, nor do I want to.) I need to believe that what they are doing they think is best, now it just might not turn out to be the best thing, but that their intention was to make Paulding a better county.

What candidate are you voting for or like for commissioner?

I think that Roger Leggett is the best man to take us past the issues that plagued the previous board. He was Post 2 Commissioner from 95 to 01. He is aware of the financial and ethical challenges faced by the last two chairmen and has always shown himself as a man who will put the taxpayer first. He won't go against the will of the people just because he thinks he knows better what is best for them. That has been a common theme the last two administrations. I don't think Roger's perfect, he may be a little old school, but I think he is up to the task.

Virginia Galloway is another who might serve well, but she and I are too far apart on some issues for her to be my first choice.

So, apparently you think that minutes would be required if, say, 6 of the 9 Board members happened to be at the same church or at the same golf course or same restaurant at the same time? I think I saw at least 5 of the PCAA Board members were at the debates Monday night. Are you saying they had to have advertised that and taken minutes?

I think you need to study the time line on Calvin Thompson's "no airline" comments. As you well know, the American economy tanked following that point in time. I'm sure that a LOT of people would have said and done things a lot differently in 2007 if they had known the economic disaster that B Hussein Odummy would bring down on us.

If Todd Pownall didn't know what was going on in his own Post, how is that anybody else's fault? He ignored voice mails and (probably) emails from those who were on the PCAA board. Don't you dare try to make him look like he's innocent and a victim of collusion.

Thank you for your comments. I need to go back and take a look at that time frame because I really do not remember him, not sure if that is good or bad. :laugh2:

He's eminently forgettable. Appointed by Shearin to fill an open seat, and barely re-elected to one full term. Lost his second election bid in a landslide. IMO, the only difference between Leggett and Robbie Dobson is the frequency in which they shave their face.

I'm supporting Virginia Galloway. She has a broader vision for the county than simply the airport and recognizes the other problems we face. She's extremely smart, honest, and approachable.

Social and ceremonial events are exempt UNLESS "official business, policy,or public matter is formulated, presented, discussed, or voted upon by the quorum". By the admission of Blake himself, policy questions of the Authority were presented and discussed at the meeting in Douglasville, and the recreated minutes fully support this.

Since you seem confused, here is the law: http://law.ga.gov/sites/law.ga.gov/...6393706OMA_M_2012_Act_correctly_formatted.pdf

By the way I will not be threatened in any manner and will "dare" to discuss my opinion here whether you approve or not. This isn't the other place where opinion will be silenced according to whom you support.

Well, you are wrong, no matter where you post.

Thanks Madea. I did know you supported her and wanted to hear what you said.

I have looked at websites, but in all actuality anyone that makes a website to run is only going to put out the good and what they think the people want to hear. (that is for any and all races) I came here to ask personal opinions, because hey, I know we all have them! :laughbunny:

I do not know any of these candidates, and I am just trying to figure out which one I think is the best fit. Others might not agree and if I am totally honest the anti people seem to get their people out to vote more when the voting takes place outside of a major election, so this might be futile in my researching and questioning.

There's going to be a runoff, I think.

The Leggett Lemmings and the Dobson Dummies are going to split the anti's votes. It will be, IMO, Carmichael vs Galloway

I suspect there will be a run-off particularly with 4 people in the race. I do hope that if there is a runoff that Virginia is part of the runoff.
