We could adopt that Sir Mix A Lot song as a county theme.

Paulding County : "We Like Big Butts And We Cannot Lie."

Ha ha ha ha....we need that here!!!

Seriously, I have also thought we should capitalize on our scenic natural forest beauty.

Our out of town visitors are always impressed by the scenery and many trees up here.

Lots of historic small town civil war type stuff to see and do could be better preserved,
developed, and then marketed to attract an interest in folks who like Southern History.

A good mid size amphitheatre for festivals and concerts with nice camping facilities,
natural hiking and biking trails, and assorted outdoor type recreation opportunities.

Look at the wild success of the Bonnaroo festival up there in Tennessee,
and the success of some places who have embraced that "country" feel.

This would be a good one.

The whole key to the success or failure of the airport and the ability to draw folks from the sports complex is that Paulding must have something to offer. If we don't have the hospitality industries in place to make Paulding an attractive drive from the sports complex (hotels, good restaurants, entertainment), even if SC field is up and running, there are going to be those that simply stay close to the interstate so they can make the drive to Hartsfield. AND, if we don't make it lucrative for businesses to relocate or build in Paulding (the airport, industrial parks, quality road access, along with better hospitality options), then we should just go ahead and turn the airport into a parking lot.

And why would any "lucrative businesses" want to locate in Paulding when they are going to be met with angry residents and never ending lawsuits?

You think the airport is causing trouble now, wait until a major developer starts clearing 10,000 acres to build an office/industrial park.

There will be jobs from it, no doubt some of them for Paulding people.

I don't see a lot of other economic impact; people staying in our motel, eating at our restaurants, etc. The airport could help that, but I'm not confident that it will. Between the poor handling of it by the government and now the backlash (some of that necessary) from the residents, it's pretty must a wasteland for now.

We have one big factor against us out here; we don't have an interstate highway. That's also a blessing in some ways, just depends how you look at it. We need large industry and / or major attractions out here to kick start the economy. I think more of this could have been accomplished had our politicians invested taxpayer money more wisely.

Was it really handled poorly? Some say it was done properly and accordingly to the NDA's I'm sure were in place from the very start. Maybe, and everything I've seen so far, was that it's the same core people who fought all the residential development for so many years in this County are now stirring the pot because they were boarded and "this is what they do" for entertainment. Not to mention another major airline company wanting to assert their control to prevent any competition from coming into "their market".

And what taxpayer money was invested improperly? Which "our politicians" are you talking about? As there were about 10 different "govt's" from all three levels (local, state and federal) involved and who knows how many politicians.

Let me say first off...I am not anti-airport. I think it will eventually become a plus for the county.

Now...yes, a lot of things have been poorly handled, this included. They should have been more transparent from the start. Add to that millions of taxpayer dollars that were spent in the wrong places and it's no wonder that we have some of the problems that we face now. The reservoir, something we really need, is stalled. Several major corporations won't build out here because of a lack of sanitary sewers. So year, lots of things have been poorly handled.

But doesn't our county have a surplus of money? I believe they do and that would show they have handled money in a wise fashion?

I do agree that this could have and should have been handled better.

As of now I am still on the fence with the airport, leaning towards the have it because I am not against having commercial flights. The problem I have had from the start and it has only progressed is what are the real facts? I have heard and read much from both sides and actually both sides have gone way too far in mud slinging to prove their point and it leaves us to wonder, what is the fact, what is the rumor, what is the what if, and dredging through studies that are old, not applicable and just not worth my time and effort in the end. :dunno

I'm cool with private development as long as there is proper zoning in place... not cool with the wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars.

Just putting it out there that Cartersville Airport is 10 minutes from the new sports complex.

Sent from a small screen using fat thumbs.

McCollum Field is right down the road, too. Easily can handle charter flights.

Chattanooga has direct flights to Chicago, Orlando, Tampa Bay, Charlotte, Washington, DC, Detroit and Dallas, TX. It's a little over an hour to Emerson from there.

Regardless of what some people are claiming, I am not opposed to business, industry and jobs. I don't want or think we need commercial flights at Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport. We have contracted with a company with NO history, no successes. They have not put any money into this project, none, zip, zilch, zero. If they want to spend their money, have at it. Taxpayers are on the hook for all loans, bonds, expenditures, etc. Let them put THEIR money where their mouth is.

And why do we still not have the details, business plan, return on investment, estimated number of flights, etc. If is such a GREAT deal, why haven't they shared any of it.

Do you know if Cartersville does charter flights or the destination flights? That would be of great interest to me, I did not realize they had an airport. :))

It has a 5700 ft. runway and handles 50,000 operations per year. The traffic is about 90% general aviation, some of it business class jet, and the rest is air taxi type charter. There are no scheduled commercial flights.

Thanks for the info. I would love to have a smaller airport to leave and arrive back. I am not a big fan of HJ and just the amount of time it takes to get there, park, get to the gate seems like forever. :))

Somebody over at the "other place" just said that Brushy Mountain Road is a "convenient" route to access 278 from Emerson.

It is possibly the most inconvenient road in the entire county and it's full of giant potholes.

It runs from Rockmart thru middle of nowhere Braswell and ends up on Highway 61 North.
