Hiram Mayor Resigns

The new members were sworn in before the first meeting of the year. I think it was usually done at the first meeting. There was a shift in the way the council leans when the new members were elected. It will work its self out. I am not surprised that the Mayor resigned. I hope for the sake of the city of Hiram that everything settles down and the right decisions will be made going forward. It will cost them to have another election for Mayor and it will be interesting to see who steps up to run.
Really? He just got the position. I am shocked that the new group went behind his back and did what they did. I personally find it shady and if I lived in city limits would be calling them on it.

Not sure they went behind his back. I am guessing he knew exactly what was happening. I was not there though and can't say for sure. I believe there was a news article on the swearing in of the new council members. He seemed surprised about that if I recall it correctly.

I didn't see the swearing in. That had to be recently though, correct? Why would he be surprised that they were swearing in the newly elected council members? None of this makes sense.

I, of course, do not know if they went behind his back, but it sure did come across that way in the article and video.

City positions had to be done after December 31. The swearing in of new council members had traditionally been at the first meeting in January. I will leave it to you figure out. I am not going to say more about that. I will try to find the article. I think it may have been in the Neighbor but the Dallas Hiram Patch may also have something on it.

Oh, I forgot to say that the swearing-in took place in December.

It worked and was interesting. Please note I do not know any of the people involved at all, but as an outsider it seemed a couple of the newly elected council members were mad at the mayor for not swearing them in when they wanted, while he was going by what had "always been done" and tried to correct it. (email according to him) They did not meet with him prior to the January meeting to discuss what they planned on doing. He gets mad since he didn't know anything and just resigns. Maybe spur of the minute, maybe realizing that this was not going to be a good working relationship. I don't know, but like I said from an outsider it just does not seem right.

Goes way deeper and further back. I just hope for the sake of Hiram it all settles down and the city thrives.

Gotcha! I know lots of times those things do it just looks so bad. I hope that it does too! I love the little downtown Hiram area and the things they try to do. Though we need a coffee shop again!!! :D

I kinda had a feeling that things were going to get messy, or messier rather, when we had people stop by SEVERAL times campaining for the city council seats. We have never had people come by, let alone come by several times.

I figured as much, just based on the continuing brouhaha.

I understand Don Brown is running for Mayor. I have met him since he lived in my neighborhood and was a former HOA president which everyone liked him. Too bad our phase of the hood was not in the City of Hiram to vote when he ran against Carmen. He only lost by a handfull of votes. Not sure how many members here are Hiram voters but can see there is those interested in local politics. I'll send him an ivitation to join the highway to give any input on his desire to be Mayor of Hiram

First mistake . . . he took the campaign to p.com. I'm not in the City limits, so I have no vote. By all accounts, Brown is a good guy. I've heard rumor someone else is throwing in, but I'm not sure yet. Qualifying ends soon. I'd love to see the city restore itself.

Why did he do that?
Won't he have a hard time too since he lost to Rollins at one point? (I thought Rollins husband was in on that craziness that made the mayor resign, a man I also heard from all accounts was a good guy)

He's been a member there for a while, so I'm sure it feels safe for him. But political campaigns there take an ugly turn!

I've invited Don Brown to bring his campaign here to The Hwy.
I hope he joins - I don't live inside the city limits, but I would love to hear about his ideas for getting Hiram on the right path.
