Father who left child in hot car charged with murder

Don't try to understand what happened with this case, you will never be able to. Just go home and hug your children extra tight and tell them that you love them! And say a prayer for the men and women involved in these type of cases, these hit hard for all involved. I know first hand how difficult it is to remain professional when dealing with these scumbags.

My husband used to want to be a police officer. He has since decided it is best if he is not because of people like this. My hubby would end up behind bars.

Randy Travis of the Fox 5 just tweeted: "Cobb law enforcement source: Work computer for Dad who left child in car shows search for how long it takes to kill animal in hot car."
I'm still having trouble even going there. Either there is a LOT of false info out there or this guy is one of the worst humans on the planet. I know the cops and the DA can't really say a lot, but hopefully they will make some statement before long.

I know - I really hope the "source" is not telling the truth, but ...

He apparently had breakfast with his son just a half mile away from the office. So he forgot him in maybe five minutes. Not likely at all.

Harris is being charged with felony murder and second-degree cruelty to a child. Originally, Harris was charged with felony murder and first-degree cruelty to a child.

According to the Cobb County Medical Examiners' Office, the boy's cause of death was determined to be from hyperthermia, which is consistent with a death from hot temperatures.

"Investigative information suggests the manner of death is homicide," reads a statement released by the Cobb County Police Department.

The news reports are pretty consistent with them eating and dad coming out to the car during the day. How could anyone do that? This could not be a tragic accident.

I can still not wrap my head around someone hurting their own child, I know evil exists, but I just can not comprehend your child. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

It happens more than we would care to know.
But this is the first time I have ever heard of someone killing their child in such a manner.
That is what is really weird about it to me.
Most of the time it is a sudden attack, or continued abuse or negligence.
This is....a real strange one.
I have to wonder, if he did this, what is the motive?

I just finished reading two books on Stewart Northcott, who before the age of 17, started sodomizing young boys, young mexican migrant workers.
Eventually at age 17 he took his 13 yr old cousin as a slave.
He then committed countless acts of sexual assaults on young mexican migrant boys, until at the age of 19 he killed at least 3 children he had kidnapped and molested.
His reason for killing the children, they were white had been reported as missing and he couldn't take the chance that they might tell if released.
So even for someone as mentally disturbed as he was, and trust me he was, he had a motive.

ETA, even Casey Anthony had a motive.
BTW, I would put money that Casey Anthony has Borderline Personality Disorder.
(a lot of money)

I know it happens more than one would want to believe, I just have a hard time with your own child. It just seems unfathomable that you would torture or kill your child. I just do not get it and probably never will.

That's because we're normal people (normal alien in your case). Clearly, anyone who would do what it appears this man did is sick or evil...or both.

The media says the police are still trying to find out what the motive could have been. I would be very interested to know. I cannot whatsoever for the life of me even begin to comprehend why someone would want to intentionally cause life threatening harm to an innocent helpless child. Such a person certainly possesses evil in their heart.

What if it is something as ridiculous as he was having financial troubles and had not paid his day care bill and thought he could leave the child in the car?

I don't know. My mind is all over the place on this one.

I find it impossible to believe that the child fell asleep and he forgot he was there. By all accounts, it was 5 minutes. And I find it impossible to believe that he also forgot to pick him up in the afternoon.

But, I also have NO idea how someone could sit in an office all day KNOWING their child was in that car and have a normal day.

The hubby and I were talking about this last night and he wonders if the daycare had a policy to call families. Both our firm's daycare and where the princess goes for after school/summer camp have a strict policy to call us if we don't show up. I still just can't wrap my head around this one, but I knew something just wasn't right about it when it was first reported.

And, the news reported last night that there was a strong stench in the car - how do you drive a mile before you look to see where the odor is coming from? In my world, you don't - as soon as you smell a strong odor, you start looking for the source immediately.

If my daycare called to check on us I'd find another one. I pay them to care for my child, not nose into my family business. If I've paid my bill for the month it's not their biz to wonder where my child is or why we haven't dropped them off. Now if I'm late to p/u that's a different story, I'm causing overtime for their workers. JMO.

I just heard that this morning about the smell. That it should have been apparent to him as soon as he opened the car door.

This story just keeps getting worse... it appears that the mother was in on it.

I am just sick over this... :'( :'( :'(

Me, too. I can't stop thinking about it. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about it. I went and got BabyB and put him in bed with me. I just can't understand this.

When I heard her eulogy included "at least I won't have to put up with the teenage years" and " I wouldn't bring him into this world today" I got chills.
