DOJ Tells Employees to Verbally Affirm Homosexuality....

So now we hire more lawyers because we don't want to lose our jobs over not AFFIRMING a lifestyle to which we object. I have an idea, let's make this brochure for managers: "FOCUS ON MAKING MONEY FOR THE COMPANY"

But that would never fly because merely the thought of it implies WORK, and why work, when you don't have tooooooooo.

Dude! We're discussing government employees, they are never going to WORK (in all caps). You are lucky is they "work". :laugh

Thank you!! This being said after being on hold with a government agency for several minutes this morning, just to get to the receptionist (who then transferred me to another person's voice mail).

I'm late to the party (as usual) so I'll just say that I completely agree with HoneyBunny's summation. Madea also said what I was thinking....there's too much "personal" talk going on and not enough WORK!

This brochure does bother me on so many levels - as does most PC propaganda.

Apparently, employees (managers or otherwise) no longer have freedom of speech at the DOJ (of all places!) Silence is a form of speech, and if someone doesn't like it....oh well.

I just wish people would stop being so offended by every little thing! As we've discussed before, I don't see people being treated poorly for their race, sexual preference, religion, etc. in this day and age. If and when it happens, it's pretty easy to stop it. I just don't see the widespread problem that would require a directive such as this.

Some people like you and some people don't. What we need to have is CONFIDENCE TRAINING for employees. Be who you are, embrace yourself, do your job, and forget about those who choose not to like you.

I encounter people who dislike me everyday. My skin's too white; I talk about Jesus too much; I brag on my kids all the time; I like cheesy music; I don't like cheese; yada yada yada. Who cares? If YOU are confident with who you are, that's all that matters!

Google jury verdicts and settlements in sexual harassment, racial discrimination, national origin discrimination, disability discrimination, etc. Then you will see the widespread problem. It has kept me employed for over 20 years...

My problem with this brochure is that it appears to go way beyond just preventing harassment and discrimination.
The directive seems to actively encourage pandering to gays and treating them as fragile overly sensitive creatures.

I find that notion insulting on so many levels. A couple of questions from an article I ran across this morning:

Can tolerance, when misguided and forced, go so far that it inadvertently becomes insulting ?

When does overenthusiastic acceptance jump the proverbial shark and become patronizing ?

Some of it can be insulting when you know how to treat people with respect. BUT, employers are forced to issue guidance that will spell it out for those that either don't know how to treat other people or those that refuse to treat other people with respect. It's sad, but employers have been backed into this corner by overly litigious employees who refuse to accept personal responsibility for their actions.
