College bowl games

A former employee for an unidentified rival Big Ten team to Michigan linked multiple college football teams that stole signs, claimed to the Associated Press that it was his job to steal signs and that he was given details from multiple league schools to compile a spreadsheet of play-calling signals used by Michigan. Evidence was also submitted by Michigan showing that prior to Michigan's victory over Purdue in the 2022 Big Ten championship game, Rutgers shared defensive signals with Purdue, while Ohio State shared offensive signals.

I would really like to know what is wrong with stealing signs in either football or baseball. In baseball it was done ever since the catcher started calling pitches, and they finally went to an alternate sign system with a runner on second,,, fair is fair. If you are going to openly send in plays to the offence, expect the opposing team to look at them and figure out what they mean. It is at that point the offence should get more creative with the process of signalling plays, their responsibility. Now think about how they prove the defense is stealing signs without someone blabbing. I can make a more than suitable case that the defense has so thoroughly studied the other teams tendencies so as to not even see their signals,, and you can bet that the top 25 teams do go that far.

Most of the time, you see three guys on the sideline giving arm and hand signals, but only one of them is the actual play. I like what Dion Sanders said. If you want to prevent signals from getting stolen, then change them for every game.

Found a clip of Harbaugh explaining the whole scandal. After watching I truly believe he had no idea a continuous program of espionage funded by alumni was just for a analyst on Michigan's payrolls scrapbook. Besides everyone does it just like cheating on taxes so it is OK. Sounds perfectly logical to me.

The whole sign stealing story is ridiculous. If you don’t want your signs stolen then come up with difficult signs to steal. That’s like saying you can’t spy on your enemy during war. Next thing is they’ll take away game film.

You can't scout college teams you will be playing. You can review their game tapes, though. You can't go to other teams' games to steal their signals, but you can steal them as you play them and apparently share them with other teams. NCAA rules are so contradictory.
