CNN Debate - Wednesday

We still have to remain focused on the point that this is just for the GOP nod. The winning candidate must also be able to win in the General Election. I don't see many with the ability to win the Presidency.

I think Fiorina, Cruz, Bush, Christie, Walker, Rubio, or Carson could win depending on the democrat running. Kasich, Huckabee, and Paul should hang it up (the 4 in the earlier debate too). Trump...well, my opinion of Trump is no secret.

I disagree. I think Fiorina is the most Reaganesque of the bunch. Tough as nails without being hateful. She would make Hillary pee herself on stage.

I'd pay to see a debate between Fiorina and Hillary.

Disagree on what? I didn't say she couldn't win, I said I don't see many who could. She's actually on my list of those who could, but it's a very short list.

Really? I would take your list down to Fiorina, Rubio, Carson, Bush, and add Trump.
Cruz has been made either a religious nut (Davis) or a jerk (things said about Biden and Carter at not so appropriate times) in articles and blogs. Christie, many just do not like, and Walker keeps changing his mind (which people keep pointing out) and keeps saying that he will do away with Unions. The Unions will throw a ton of money at anyone running against him. They already have a Presidential Action Fund they are asking members to donate to so they keep who they want in the WH.

Even though I don't like Trump, I do think a debate between him and Biden (if he gets into the race and wins the nomination) would be very entertaining. Trump may win in that scenario but I think he would lose to Hillary.

I also think a debate between Hillary and Carly would be fun since Carly is the one that has been hammering Hillary quite a bit.

The campaign strategy most of these Republican candidates are using puzzles me. They should be campaigning on why they would be the better as president than any of the Democratic candidates. I would run my campaign showing why I would be better than Clinton, Sanders, and even though he's not in the race yet, Biden. The key issues as I see them are:

1. Jobs as millions of unemployed Americans have given up looking for them and millions more are severely underemployed thanks to Obamacare.

2. Obamacare: It has stifled job growth as most jobs created since its implementation have been part-time jobs. Overall it has made health care more expensive for people. Premiums might be low for low income earners and some in the middle-class (the people hurt most by Obamacare) because it has increased deductibles, co-pays, and out of pocket expenses to the point are better off not having insurance and just putting into a savings account what they would have paid for premiums. Take a person who makes $40,000 annually and has a health care plan with premiums of $400 a month with a $5,000 deductible and 20% co-insurance; he/she is paying $4,800 in premiums before his health insurance starts to pay 80% of the costs after that. The tax penalty for those without health insurance this year is 2% of household income. Using the $40,000 income that person would pay a tax penalty of $1,000 for not having health insurance. Many people are opting to not have insurance and just pay the penalty because it's less expensive than the insurance that isn't worth a crap.

3. Immigration as illegal immigrants have taken what were once good paying jobs away from Americans, contrary to what the left says. The fines today for hiring illegals are $250 first offense, $350 second offense, and $1,000 third and every offense afterward. These fines have been the same since the Eisenhower administration. People get hit with fines greater than that for speeding in this country. We already tried amnesty for illegals back in 1986 when Reagan signed into law the Immigration Reform and Control Act giving 3.5 million illegals amnesty. Reagan threatened to veto the Act if it didn't include measures to strengthen border security, so the Democratic controlled Congress put it in there. Where Regan failed was trusting the Democrats to actually live up to the Act and fund measures to strengthen border security. Reagan should have held the Democrats feet to the fire and vetoed budgets that didn't include the funding for border security. The Act was a sore point for a very large percentage of voters in the country - even unions.

4. Foreign policy. The Obama administration's foreign policies have been a disaster for the US. He has made us appear weak to the rest of the world. Although he said he and the Democrats opposed regime change, he committed the military to take out Qadafi in Libya resulting in an Islamic extremist state. Policies regarding Syria and ISIS are disasters. ISIS now controls almost a third of Iraq. The treaty with Iran is a joke as it returns billions of dollars back to Iran and gives them the ability to manufacture nuclear weapons and support terrorism. McConnell and Boehner let this get passed in Congress as a bill rather than go through the correct process as a treaty. The GOP needs to take a vote of no confidence and remove those two from their leadership positions, but they won't because they are a bunch of pansies.

What we need from the GOP is a candidate who stands out as a leader and seriously addresses these issues. Trump and Cruz are the only two candidates who really come close to addressing these issues. I like Cruz and he is on my short list. Trump hammers on these issues as well. I could care less that Cruz doesn't smile much and I could care less how his voice sounds, but he has since entering Congress been holding Republican leadership's feet to the fire for not doing the right thing. I like that.

Agreed but part of the problem is in debates you have the moderators trying to stir up stuff by asking questions like "candidate X said this about you, please respond". And since the news networks fall all over themselves to show Trump any time he says anything it's harder for the others to get their message out. I've been watching many of the interviews other candidates have been doing over the last few weeks and most, if not all, the questions they get are about Trump.

This strategy isn't limited to the debates. They need to be doing this at their campaign rallies and with the media. They can control the media by refusing to answer questions about the other GOP candidates.

Reporter: Mr. Cruz, how do you feel about Trump's personal attack on Fiorina?

Cruz: That has nothing to do with my campaign. You should ask Fiorina that question as his comment effects her. My campaign is focused on what I will do as president compared to what the Democratic candidates are saying they would do.

But, if you don't focus on what distinguishes you from the other GOP candidates, you might as well hang up the nomination.

There is always some battling between the candidates in a given party during the primaries. However, some of it has been unnecessarily ugly and personal. Especially from Trump.

Hopefully, that contention will turn toward the Democrat's pick once the nominees are chosen.

I think if they focused on what they would do differently than the Democrats vying for the office, the would distinguish themselves from the other GOP candidates.

I'm tired of the BS they are saying about each other; it's like middle-school kids on the playground calling each other "butt face." Not only that, it demonstrates the party can't come together at all and makes the party look even weaker.

Agreed. One particular candidate is the main source of the childish name calling.

That is very true.

She's the last person who should be making fun of anyone. She stands a good chance of being indicted before the primaries are over.
