Can you lose it?

LisaC

I'm here to spin the moral compass.
This is a theological question. Is it possible to lose your salvation? And, I'm not questioning whether someone ever had it or not, but is it possible to lose your salvation once you get believe and are Baptized? Rick Warren's son is what made me think of this - there are people that believe that if you commit suicide, you will go to hell. Others say that once you are saved, you are saved.

So, I'm just wondering - is it possible to lose your salvation?

:dunno

Once you are christened you are not un-christened. (Though you can fall from grace) Suicide is a sin, but God decides who goes to Hell and I do not know if all that commit it do.

I have always believed this to be true.

Me three.

I also think there are a lot of people who claim to be saved that aren't. But that's between them and God, not for me to determine.

Mrs. Colson asked me the suicide question. The only response I could give her was is it worse to killssomeone else than yourself? If that is true, can a murderer be saved?

A mirderer has an opportunity to repent after he commits the offense. You don't get that opportunity with suicide.

I do believe in once saved always saved

Those that claim to lose it never was turkey saved or just having a big cup if dummy at the moment

Only the president can save a turkey, and that is only at Thanksgiving.

What if he/she was saved, but mentally ill?

Do I believe you can lose your salvation? No. Do I believe you can choose to turn your back? Yes. Do I think committing a sin is a choice to turn away? No. As far as suicide, I absolutely don't make judgments on that one. Only the person and God know the state of their heart.

Mercy... Y'all just sart me a page where we talk about all my autocorrects lol

Once saved always saved, deciding whether one was really "saved" is beyond my pay grade. The only possible exception I'm aware of is blasphemy against the Spirit, but again, beyond my pay grade to determine.

What makes you say that? How can you determine if they are saved or not? They can sin and still be saved. They can not go to church and still be saved. Why would they claim to be saved, yet aren't? :dunno

Read my last sentence, I can't and won't determine it.

I think a lot of people go through the motions without ever really understanding salvation or totally giving themselves to Christ. The movie "Left Behind" even touched on this; one of the priests found out the hard way that he had just been fooling himself the whole time.

Hi! Here's more from the Catholic side of things! You cannot be un-christened, but neither does baptism guarantee entry into heaven. Baptism only makes entry into heaven possible. It is our response (of course, initiated and aided by God's grace) that brings us to salvation.

As Christians, none of us can know, for sure, whether or not we are saved. We all need to persevere until the end! St. Paul certainly did not believe he was saved and always saved! He wrote:

(1 Corinthians 9:26-27) "Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my bodyband make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize."

I could give you many more Scripture passages, such as:

(Hebrews 10:36) "You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised."

(James 1:12) "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."

(2 John 1:8-9) "Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son."

I understand you said that is between them and God I just do not get the fact that you can believe some are not saved when they say they are. You may think they do not understand or have given themselves totally, but you do not know that. You are making an assumption that I can't imagine when they say they are. Are they lying? I am just trying to follow what you mean.

I have not seen that movie, you will have to elaborate how a priest found out the hard way he was fooling himself. :dunno

What is so hard to understand about my post that I'm saying *I* don't know for sure? I am theorizing.

The priest in the movie found out when he was left behind. Hence the name of the movie.
