I don't know what the gold award is or what an eagle scout award is.

But, here's a question, why did the Boy Scouts let women become leaders? Did having women in the roles of men confuse any of the kids? Did it make any of the boys want to become women? Are there studies?

You're right - I assumed he was gay, especially when he mentioned his husband... I was wrong to do that... (See FOX, I can admit when I'm wrong)...

Gays are not denied to be boy scouts, they are denied leadership roles. He may have missed your point.

No ... openly gay boys are not permitted, either. There was a recent case of a boy not getting his Eagle rank because he came out.

OK mentioning the husband thing might have been a clue, even without the sign. :thumbsup

I don't think this will be devastating to the BSA, and I don't believe that many churches will stop sponsoring troops. There have been gay leaders, and there have been gay members in the more liberal, non-church sponsored troops. It was the BSA version of DADT. The BSA has simply said that this is now not against the rules of the national organization. Those conservative troops that made a point of the no gay rule before still can. Remember, in reality the rule was enforced, or not enforced at the troop level anyway. The BSA didn't run around doing "gay checks" at the individual troops.

I know of a gay member currently in a more conservative troop. he doesn't flaunt it, but pretty much everyone knows. Nobody wants to tell him that after his years in the program he can no longer participate because he reached puberty and surprise, didn't discover girls. He's still the same good kid he was as a Cub Scout.
