I posted this in the "Boycotting Target" thread, but I meant to post it here. So I'll just re-post it:
Guys, seriously. I love all of you. But please realize what you're all saying.
Men living as women have been using women's bathrooms for as long as I have been alive. Ladies, more than likely you have at one point shared the restroom with a man living as a woman, but didn't realize it.
This has never been about promoting Jim Bob's ability to use the women's restroom. And you know good and well Jim Bob isn't going to. i would much rather let a man living as a woman share my bathroom rather than make "her" use the men's, where The threat of Jim Bob making threatening remarks at the very least, or Jim Bob beating the snot out of her at the very most, is very real.
And if you are worried someone will harm your child, you shouldn't be letting him/her go into a restroom alone in the first place. The possibility of my 4 year old being molested in the men's bathroom if he goes alone is always at the front of my brain - the few times he's run in the men's because he doesn't want to "be a baby" you better believe I marched on after him and pulled him out. I understand his frustration. But he doesn't understand the thread of Pedo Phil.
Folks, this should have NEVER been an issue on either side. It has never been in an issue in the past, and it shouldn't be one now. There are far, far greater things to be worried and concerned about than this. This is just dumb. And it makes me wonder what we are being distracted from.
People need to stop being so upset and ranting about this, and put their energy into being passionate about something else. Like maybe the growing number of panhandlers in Hiram. We either have an enormous homeless problem, or an enormous drug problem. Or how about the child abuse in this county? MrB was almost selected for jury duty on a case where a man severely abused his 5 children, aged 1-8. I will spare details, but it includes being chained up and taped to walls for hours at a time.
And with that, I just want to say I love all of you, and this is just my .02.
This is not the hill y'all want to die on.
I think most of us realize that transgenders in other gender's restrooms is nothing new, and I doubt most are concerned about more of that. The issue I have is legitimizing it, and opening the door (pun intended) to abuse of such laws and policies. It already has, and will continue to make it easier for perverts to go into the wrong restroom for reasons other than to pee.
The real problem with this is how vaguely they are defining transgenders; basically as anyone who identifies at the other gender. That's a wide-open invitation for trouble!!
The only people who truly are transgenders (and they still aren't biologically) are the ones who have had the total retrofit. Meaning, their sex organs have been converted from A/C to D/C. It seems to me that these people could have their gender designation legally changed, and then there shouldn't be an issue. The others, Bruce Jenner being the best known one at current, are actually drag queens.
Now...I really don't care if someone wants to play Mr. Potato Head with their sex organs so long as they don't expect me to pay for it. I'm very big on personal freedom. But one person's freedoms can sometimes end when they begin to trod on someone else's personal freedoms. And that is what is happening here is some cases.
I keep hearing about their (transgender's) rights. But under our constitution; individuals have rights, not groups. And the trend in this country of recent has been to dish out group rights. This is a very dangerous course that could cause, and might already be causing a loss of individual rights. We are starting to think more about the groups and minorities than we are the individual, which could undermine the very concepts of freedom and liberties this nation was founded on. If anyone wants to do some heavy reading in the Communist Manifesto, you will find that under their concept, overall welfare was generally favored over individual rights. In contrast; the original concept that our Constitution was born of believed that individual liberty was what gave such strength to the unity or our nation.
I know some of you who support this do so from a standpoint of love and compassion, and I do appreciate that. Those of you who know me well also know that I, too am a person of love and compassion. But there's also a side of me that is very logical and pragmatic, and it sees trouble written all over this trend.
I respectfully urge everyone to move beyond the emotional aspect of this issue and consider the potential damage of both this issue and the general direction we've been going in. In 1957, Nikita Khrushchev said while addressing western ambassadors that they (Communism) would defeat us without firing a shot. Some translations said bury us, but you get the drift. If you guys will take a step back and look at the direction we've been going, the move to the left by both political parties, the continued expansion of the federal government, etc; perhaps you will see, as I do, that Khrushchev's prophecy is unfolding right before our eyes. And they have been smart about it; they take a little here and a little there instead of just converting us to Socialism overnight. This transgender issue is the latest "little here" that they are taking. And we are happily giving these little bits to them in the name of love and compassion.
Yes, I know some of you will read this and roll your eyes. But others know I'm right, and that we are headed for a very different kind of United States that we won't like very much if we allow this trend to continue.
